i try it now and it is not working, i import wallet but the same there is no sign message, how can i sign message because one of the bounty need the signed message on bitcoin can someone help me on how i can sign message on new blockchain or you can provide me another wallet that uses sign message? and when i click blockchain that has onion i cannot find the page

This feature is only available to imported address/es. Now if you imported the address there and you still can't find the option called "sign mesage", make sure that it is not a "watch-address" because you still need its corresponding private key in order for you to use that feature.

You will only be able to sign messages with imported addresses and with addresses created in old Blockchain.info wallet. If you created a new wallet/account in Blockchain.info, you *won't* be able to sign messages with the addresses created.
Okay thanks for clarifying.Yes I'm using an address made in the old blockchain.info wallet before they updated.Never knew newly created addresses don't have signing provision.

Blockchain.info now uses hierarchical deterministic(HD) wallets. Many HD wallets don't allow you to sign messages. You will have to use tools like https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39 to first find private key of the address you want to sign message with and then import address to a wallet or use a tool.

Any updates to this as there is no way I can sign a message in blockchain, the only options I get is edit name or show xpub?
Did you read the main post seriously ? Wasn't that enough ?
According to their official post : https://support.[Suspicious link removed]/hc/en-us/articles/210353833-What-is-message-signing-and-how-can-I-do-that- it's possible for only imported addresses. However,I'm still able to sign messages from the original address on blockchain.info.Follow the same steps mentioned in the link above.
Thanks for the prompt reply, so I will need to import an address from a separate wallet then?
No,you don't have to,the last I checked.Like I said,I was able to sign a message without importing an address.
Here's how you do it :
1-Go to Settings
2-Click Addresses
3-On the right hand side of the address you wish to sign a message from has "More Options ->Click ->Sign Message"
4-I checked it just now and it's working.
Are you using blockchain.info? As I do not get those options after I click on manage, all I get is change the address or delete the address

Thank satoshi
Thank you!
Yes, I saw.
There is a line of "signature" - what to write? Where to get the signature for the message?
Thanks for the support!

In the last versions blockchain wallet changed his policy and removed some useful features imo. One of these is the ability to sign a message. So, you can sign a message only if you import an address. Till now using this wallet there is no other way. You can verify a message something not very useful since there are many sites to do this.

If you're signing a message, leave it empty.  If you're verifying a message enter the signature there, it looks like a long string of random characters (example: IFtLgDZCpvfw0DT70RCLcYXj3Dbjf68sc6pj/C+u5K6IC8PIhHE4Y/ldllt1/yhrZpVW/shFRf7rxQYdsW/CcBM=).

Well yeah, I've just checked out the new blockchain.info (made a new account). Spent a good deal of time figuring things out.

The guide doesn't work. (at least for me)It's probably for old versions or for imported addresses.

The only way one can verify/sign is by importing addresses. (Haven't really tried importing one to confirm, but it's what I've concluded going around their faq/help/etc.)
The new addresses generated by this latest version of blockchain.info cannot be verified/signed. It's still unsupported. No idea why. Or if this will change.
I do have the same problem as you and i believe the new adress hasnt yet the option to sign messages it has been reported sometime ago about those, we can edit name and show xpub and just from new adress, the funny thing is they charge for we transfer bitcoins over accounts, and now there is a message:
Imported Addresses  Not backed up by your Recovery Phrase. Transfer into a wallet to secure funds.
Transfer All

Meaning they wanna get more funds while we do use our old adress, i do hope they allow us to sign messages from new adress and stop being greedy to the point to charge us to transfer funds between adress since has no costs for them.

I have same wallet version. So I imported one of my used address (that is from same wallet id) only to see if I could sign it. But  there is not this option. Click to more options  right from imported address and only options are: archive, transfer, spend. Moreover, they claim in their support that I can sign an imported address /hc/en-us/articles/210353833-What-is-message-signing-and-how-can-I-do-that-]https://support.[Suspicious link removed]/hc/en-us/articles/210353833-What-is-message-signing-and-how-can-I-do-that- this is not working. Looking forward to see what happens in newer versions.

Look the imported adress if belongs to the last version of blockchain.info you will be able to sign a message, just the new adress of the new wallet arent able to sign a message at the moment. Im able to sign any message from old adress, just follow the steps if its an old adress if its a new adress you wont be able to sign messages.

How can I look something like that? That is, which address belongs to which version of blockchain wallet? Where somebody can see the version of his web wallet?. Furthermore I believe that there is no sense to import an address from a wallet id to another address of this wallet. I believe that this (hopefully) working if I import an address from another wallet. I did this only as experiment and I think that blockchain wallet had to warn me that I transfer funds between addresses in the same wallet. Instead of this, asks money for the miners giving option to transfer or spend that money or to archive the address. This make sense knowing that if I want to transfer money between addresses   need to pay fees to miners. Truth is, that I take money from one pocket of my pants to put it another. May be in this case is better (calculating miner fees) to transfer all of my funds to a new wallet only in one address.
I dont believe its possible to trace or know if the adress is new or old if has no transactions at it, can be very old but without an adress i doubt you can know about those. Its ridiculous blockchain new feature of charge to we transfer funds between our adress, i have more then one adress and i dont moove my coins into a single adress because i have to pay for something should be free.

This procedure is described in.detail and correct but this is valid only for old addresses. At this moment verifying new addresses in blockchain wallet is stil not possible. I don't know why is that option unavailable and why haven't been introduced so far but I hope they will fix that soon.

Until now we can't still verify our new addresses in blockchain.info. Do they have a plan to update and add an option for signing a message? Only old address can verify. So I am just using a multi-sig bitcoin address for receiving and sending bitcoins.

But its still working to me, First tell me did you justly created your wallet on newer version or you just upgraded to it from stable version? Somethings is in my mind. Check out below i just attached the picture. Hope it will help you.

Ahh...I see you still have the "More Options" tab.For me,it doesn't appear.Nope  I did not upgrade my wallet just now.I have been using the upgraded version since weeks. As said,it used to show that tab when I newly updated it.I think Ive been pushed to a version higher (maybe others too I think).Let me write to their support and see what they can do.

They will not reply.
I just found one thing i have upgraded my stable wallet to New version and all of my address are imported from stable to new version and in my wallet in Addresses i get 2 option one is with NEW VERSION Addresses and other ones are imported addresses that address which i just signed was the address which was imported from stable version and if i just go to NEW VERSION addresses which are known as My Wallet Addressed i am unable to sign message i am not seeing any more option tab only delete and labeling the address options are there , So it means that new addresses cannot be signed however if you have imported addresses from stable version then you will be able to sing message.
Well, that's why i also have trouble finding that More Options i also used a new version of blockchain and i want to signed a message but it doesn't have any signed message .what i've found is clearly only a verify message .i hope blockchain updates again and add signed message and verify message in a seperated tab .
Luckily what i've used account before is still on old version so i have no problem on signing a message .but i frequently used that address for public transactions and i want to have a new blockchain account for security of this account . Currently (MyWallet v3.22.22).

I am missing something or it is no longer possible to sign message from new HD Blockchain.info wallet? That 'more options' tab is missing.
You simply can't sign/verify messages anymore - is there some hidden option to enable this option once again?

Well you are surely missing something because we can easily sign message from NEW Blockchain.info wallet.
Well if your More Options tab is missing try refreshing your wallet or use different browser. Because its working at my side i just checked it.
Actually,I just checked the my new updated wallet and it seems to be changed.Earlier, even after updating I was able to sign/verify messages. The options tab doesn't seem to appear anymore. If you have figured out the way of doing it,please upload the images or the guide.

Refreshing your wallet doesn't work,it will obviously sign you out of the wallet for security purposes. If you just checked it,mind uploading an image ?

But its still working to me, First tell me did you justly created your wallet on newer version or you just upgraded to it from stable version? Somethings is in my mind. Check out below i just attached the picture. Hope it will help you.

Im trying to find the 'more options' bit on blockchain.info, it seems they update this so often.  People use sign messaging often why not have it more clear blockchain.

Try to go to "Imported Address", if you have any Spendable Addresses you can sign a message with it.
Or you can also add a new address there if you have the private key by clicking the "Import Address" button.

OK i can try this, but do you know if im a fresh user just signed up to blockchain.info are you are to sign the default address they give you? (you used to be able to)

You can sign a message as long as you have the private key of the address. But I think it's hard to do in the new Blockchain.info, because I don't even know how to see the private key of the new generated addresses.

Yeah looks like they changed it urgh! why would they do that.  Surely you should be able to control all private keys, even default address on sign up.

I got some issue on the new blockchain,
I create new address and it is not able to sign message with that address...
only can sign with those imported address...

any1 know how can I sign with those new address?
as others said it can but in fact I can't..
As you backread, you will read my post (above your post actually) that signing message in the new blockchain.info (new address) is a big issue indeed. I already experience that but I don't think so that others can do that.

hello op is hepfully your guide
i want to ask another related about your write
is where i can see private key is new system wallet in blockchain
Please let me answer your question in behalf of OP. You can no longer get the private keys of your address in new blockchain.info, is not supported anymore. So you can try other bitcoin address that give the private key. But for me, blockchain is still guarantee because of its security features.

It took me 15 minutes to find that out as blockchain hasn't yet updated their FAQs and they still show the old blockchain wallet answers. They have placed this option under Settings that's tough to figure out and they should have mentioned this as a separate option or on the home page itself.

1 question,

I got few address used in my NEW Blockchain Wallet, but when I go ''Imported Addresses'', I can only find 1 address in there...

but I want to / need to use the other address to sign a message, what should / can I do? Did I do something incorrect?
Your question is confusing... The imported address is the old one. So if you find only one in your imported address meaning to say that is your only address and nothing more. The other address you are referring will be find in your New address. You use the new address to sign a message. Hope it helps.

For the meantime you can use other wallet like electrum, bitcoin core and there's more. But we can still use blockchain.info if we don't prioritize the signing a message. It has already a better security features for this beta version.

Nice guide for who use new blockchain wallet but i confused with new blockchain so i back to use blockchain old wallet.
How you did that? as far as i know when we upgrade to new wallet we can't login with legacy again, it's automatically will goes back to the new one.
Yes,you can't go back once updated.Alternative,if you can make a new account and import the addresses from the new unwanted wallet to the recently created one,you can still use it the old way. However in the coming days, blockchain.info will move all the existing wallets to the new ones.So better get used to it.Earlier signing messages was not supported in the new wallet, now it does,no reasons as to why one shouldn't use the new wallet except the UI,it sucks.

Glad to see the signing message option on the new blockchain.info wallet is added finally. And thanks for the nice and simple guide, this will be useful for those who were asking how to sign a message on the new wallet.

It was already their since the new bet version released. I guess you did not know before how to sign message from new bet-wallet.

@OP nice work, I was thinking to make a thread like this but i was busy with some work. Keep up the good work!

Does blockchain.info still on it's beta version or is it already the final version which is latest? Yeah, so now I am using that wallet rarely, I already switched on the other. Well, for me it is okay to use because of the security especially the 2FA.
I think its still in their beta mode, they will release information once they are updated.

I think it is important to note that this only works for IMPORTED SPENDABLEaddresses... You cannot sign messages with addresses created in the new beta wallet and, for obvious reasons, you cannot sign messages with addresses that you don't have the private keys for.

As you can't (yet?) access the private keys for the addresses created in the new wallet (I'm not sure if Blockchain.info are going to add this feature in the future or if it is gone for good), you cannot sign messages with any new addresses created. Sad

So, the feature seems to be only half-implemented at present.

I thought it was impossible to return to the older wallet?
Yes,its impossible to return to the old wallet.I haven't checked if the update is implemented now like the signing/verifying messages. You can always import the private keys and then the addresses. It's not recommend to upgrade to the beta version yet as possible bugs and updates make it vulnerable to attacks.

Bolding and italics mine.  And that is why I do not understand why blockchain.info would release a product not ready for primetime.  It seems like newbies (and I would be one, I just use the legacy version for now) might have problems.  blockchain.info is notorious for having problems.

IMO they would be better off to claen house before venturing out on new projects that would dilute their programming prowess.  For example, three weeks or so ago their SharedCoin (mixing service) was not working.  SharedCoin seems to be up and running now though.

Very helpful guide for people like me. Thankss.
