From what I understand, a share is a collection of completed hashes, in the same way a byte is a collection of bits.

So if you're solo mining, you will still complete "shares" as such, but they don't have quite the same meaning as when you're mining with a pool.

Chances are, you'll have to complete millions of shares before you solve a block unless you're very lucky. And at the hash rate you're working at, chances are it will take months or years to actually get a block. So running your PC all that time will consume more power than the reward you'll get. Unless of course the bitcoin price goes through the roof.

yeah thats what confused me. It looks like 10(7) are shares, but you don't get shares when solo mining, do you?

the 10(7) is your share portion.
Let's say for simplicity sake, the total shares to find the bitcoin is 1000; your share of the bitcoin is 10/1000 * (25 - pool charges, etc.) So, you are not actually getting 10 bitcoin.

Login to your pool ... see how much bitcoin you have earned. Maybe you can start withdrawing, which will then go to your wallet address you specify on the pool. Most of the pools have a withdrawal limit of 0.01 bitcoin if I'm not mistaken.

In GUIMiner it says 10(7) yet there is nothing showing in my wallet.

That's between you and the pool you're are mining on. I recommend 50BTC or BitMinter. There's usualy some limit before you get paid to avoid the transaction fee eating all your mining effort. Which will be the problem with such a low hash.

My GPU is mining 13 mhash whereas my CPU is mining 8.3 yet my CPU is the only thing that appears to be doing anything/

I don't know how it works for GPU/CPU but when I mine on multiple GPUs I open multiple GUIMiner windows.

Hi All,

I am new to mining cryto-currency in general. Recently I stumbled upon this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164569.420link and was decided to set up a miner to see how it went.
I know my hash rate is very low, and am saving for a 7970. Anyway I started mining with my fx-8350 and Radenon HD 5450 and was wondering if anyone could help me understand the following screenshot.

In GUIMiner it says 10(7) yet there is nothing showing in my wallet.
My GPU is mining 13 mhash whereas my CPU is mining 8.3 yet my CPU is the only thing that appears to be doing anything/

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
