Fortunately only two people died there. The death toll could have been much higher, as the German cops are not permitted to use fire-arms. Anyone in the vicinity of the perpetrator would have been sitting ducks (remember the 2011 Norway attacks?). Thankfully, the incident occurred in a sparsely populated area, and the gunman seems to have refrained from shooting more people.
In this case the employees of a gas station took care of the situation since obviously the guy was not very smart.
He actually put his gun on the counter, and the female employee grabbed it.

Are you saying in germany the gun control lobbying is done by shooters killing innocent people and not the police?

Violent crime is nearly unheard of in the villages snuggled between rolling meadows and medieval castles of Germany’s northern Bavaria. So, on Friday, when a gunman in a convertible allegedly shot two people dead in a drive-by shooting spree, jaws dropped.

“In a town with 5,500 residents, where we’ve always lived in tranquillity, we only know situations like this from television shows,” Siegfried Hess, mayor of Leutershausen told regional news site nordbayern.de.

Police apprehended the gunman but not before he fired upon or threatened at least four people with his gun, Middle Franconia Police said.
