Why does the shooter shoot up the gun-free school zone?

It's usually a current or former student shooting up their own school.

Shooters that have been out of school for more than a few years tend not to shoot up schools.

Imagine one day we decided to give every high school student a gun to bring to school.  I bet there would be a lot of school shootings that day.

More guns = more gun violence.

These days, anybody can get guns... or make them - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=slam+gun.

The military, especially teams like Special Forces, all trust each other with guns. They have had training, and are trustworthy for protecting each other.

I know, I know. You show by your posts that you love to dream. But I would rather be backed up by friends with guns against a shooter than not.

Guns are here to stay. So, let's use them for what they were meant to be used in the first place... self protection from evil people with guns.

If you say it is mental health, then the next time the GOP is supposed to do is pass as many laws as possible to guarantee anyone who feels depressed, suicidal or fantasies with murder gets the counceling and medication they need to save their life and other's.

Well said mate. I think the negligence from the part of the government is deliberate. Because, why can't they simply stop these things from reoccurring. I mean the government can actually reversed it's policies to put a gun control on the citizens at least for period of time whilst they understudy the cases to make available solutions to the problems.

As of this year, alone, the news have reported over 470 mass shootings in the US according to the Gun Violence Archive. Now, let's pause a minute. From January 1st of this year to 16th of September (today) is approximately 258 days. If we are to remove the 258 days from the total number of mass shootings for the year as provided by the GVA, then there's around an average of 2 shooting incidents in a day in USA. Is this not scary in it's self?  Huh

School shootings, as are any kind of fatal shooting, a tragic event. Sadly it will never stop in a country where it’s so easy to be able to get hold of a gun. It’s part of American heritage, the right to bear arms so I don’t see the potential for school shootings going down any time soon. I think it’s been discussed before about an armed guard being in every school at all times but government make excuses about the cost being too high.

So why try armed guard why they have legalized gun access. I think US government caused the problem that is bedeviling their students. If you have approbate then you can not reprobate, they don't need to complain because they have legalized gun access so anybody can claim health issues if they have wrongly used the gone which is an excuse that could easily be hidden on.

They have to restrict gun access to student and create a minor court to personally try this offense when they go against this law, they can't just keep killing themselves and causing panic in schools.

^^^ Who listens to the rules about keeping a gun-free school zone gun free? The teachers. The school board. The school students. The parents of the students. Other good people.

Who doesn't listen, but rather, shoots up a gun-free school zone? A crazed shooter, of course.

Why does the shooter shoot up the gun-free school zone? Because he knows that nobody there has guns, so he doesn't have to worry about anybody shooting him down... at least not until after he has shot a bunch of kids down. No fear.

Get rid of the gun-free school zone idea. You are only making fertile ground for a shooter. Rather, arm the teachers, and train them how to shoot. Arm the parents. Arm he school board. Why? Three reasons:
1. These people aren't going to shoot anybody except shooters, because they are good people;
2. The shooters will be too scared to do their shooting there, because they will realize they might get shot;
3. If they DO go there to do their shooting, they will be dead in short order, because teachers lover their school kids and will protect them... if they have the guns and the training.

I personally believe that there is still time to tackle the problem of school massacres in USA before it further engraves itself onto the popular culture even more and into the history of the United States, this rates of attacks in schools are quite of a relatively new trend, after all.

The right to bear arms is decoded in the constitution, but that right is not supposed to be sacrificed in order to stop more tragic events. The first thing to do in to close the loopholes which allow criminals and the mentally sick to grab guns.

It is okey to bear arms but that right cannot be for everyone in age, without some restrictions according to their history, mental health and online behavior.

I think maybe a less obvious take on the gun problems we’re seeing in America is that people are fed up with the way that society is being governed. Kids aren’t going to sit around being indoctrinated without fighting back. This is a problem that’s going to get a whole lot worse and gun control isn’t the answer. Nobody shoots people because guns are available, they shoot people because they’re forced into shitty situations.

But at least we can agree that a lot of these situations may have much to do with mental health and personal problems the young people may be going through? Because, you make it sound as if it was completely something about the way the United States is governed (when comes to the sort education people is getting).

I may be wrong, but those kind of incidents were happening even when the "woke agenda" or "woke ideas" were not so mainstream. The assassins of Columbine or the one from Virginia tech did what they did before all those things you are talking about were so common.

I have friends in USA and they tell me how bad things can be about health care, even the one which has to do with mental issues, the crisis centers sound like literal small cells...

The truth of the matter is, that they seem having a hard time fixing this problem because it hasn't really gone well after the first incident and this is the only country that always has some incidents of shooting inside of schools every year. In our schools, we only have Earthquake Drills, but in their schools, they added shooting drills which is really sad because schools are no place for violence, but other people just randomly go there to shoot and kill people. They need to fix their laws regarding guns and consider looking at other countries' solutions in order to save students' lives.

Ok but lots of people don't shoot anyone because they don't have easy access to a gun.

Good take on the "kids are shooting up schools because not enough people agree with my political views" though.  I don't even know how to respond to that one.

I have no sympathy at all for school shooting victims and their families if the shooters have been relentlessly bullied. Those f@#$ers deserve it. And yes, I will protest their funerals. Public schools provide such a poor education that the Bitcoin community cannot understand reversible computation. No. I did not just say that the Bitcoin community does not understand reversible computation. I said that they cannot understand it. They are too busy being dumb.

DeathAngel-I disagree with your assessments that school shootings are tragic events. School shooters are simply standing up to their bullies and giving them as well as all who refused to stand up for them what they f@#$ing deserve. School shooting victims will receive the worst punishment in HELL!

• There have been 2,646 school shooting incidents in the U.S. since 1966. Of those, 2,205 (94%) occurred after the 1990 School Zone Safety Act (Amended in 1995).
• There are 1,325 total State Gun Laws per this 2022 report.
• The Federal government has been enacting Federal Firearm regulations since 1934.
• The correlation between population density and school shootings is more profound in population density than in firearm legislation.
• There is no standard “School shooting” definition in the U.S. The Secret Service defines targeted attacks, while most data includes incidents when a firearm is brandished, fired, or a bullet hits school property.
• There were 238 school shooting incidents during the National Assault Weapons ban, 293 in the decade before, and 347 in the decade after.
• 62% of school shootings (as defined) occurred during non-school hours (1970-2022).
• Firearms were used in 61% of targeted school attacks, and 39% used knives between 2008 & 2017.

On December 30, 1974, Anthony Barbaro walked into Olean High School in NY, killed 3 classmates, and injured 11 with a .30-06 rifle, 12 gauge shotgun, and smoke bombs. For more than 50 years, America’s school shootings have filled headlines around the world.

It’s tragic; people are tired of seeing the senseless loss of innocent lives in educational settings. Despite mounting gun control laws on the Federal and state level, school-related shootings continue to rise (2023 being the highest year yet, with 388 school shootings in only six months). Regardless of political affiliation or thoughts on well-regulated militias and the right to bear arms, one thing is clear; what we’ve been doing for the past forty years isn’t working.

Each school shooting incident in America reflects one thing, children are vulnerable. Schools tend to be easy targets while simultaneously producing mentally ill individuals with an unstoppable intent to harm others.

Unfortunately, we still have a lot to learn about school shootings. There are a lot of unanswered questions. But what we can do is investigate the changes between societal shifts and legislation over the years and spark meaningful conversations about stopping school shootings. Of course, the clock is ticking down to the next horrific headline, so we need to start these meaningful conversations now.

Gun restrictions don't work when there's a loop hole that allows anyone to buy a gun from anyone as long as they aren't a licensed gun dealer.  (And it's the same people that protect the loophole and fight to make any gun legislation as ineffective as possible that are the ones pointing to the data and saying 'see gun laws don't work!')

All you have to do though is look at other developed countries with the lowest gun violence rates and see what they have in common with each other but not with the United States and it becomes very obvious why there is so much gun violence in America.

If you say it is mental health, then the next time the GOP is supposed to do is pass as many laws as possible to guarantee anyone who feels depressed, suicidal or fantasies with murder gets the counceling and medication they need to save their life and other's.

Sounds great in practice, though I wonder how many people would actually admit to having violent fantasies if doing so meant involuntary commitment to a government-run asylum.

It does not have to do much about admitting anything.
The profile of those who commit mass murder in school has been already extensibly studied (and continues to be to this day). It would be more a job about looking for those who show the red flags of suffering from mental illnesses like depression, antiexy, social isolation, psychopathy, etc. Engaging those problems with medication and therapy so those affected by mental illness can look forward the future with optimism and hope, instead descending a terrible death spiral where they could end up deciding to take their own life or the life of others.

However all of it requires an investement which the GOP does not seem to be eager to pass into law, as they are with  relaxing gun regulation. Sounds like a recipe for more murder, in my opinion.

More restrictions don't solve the problem since students can purchase guns from a black market anyway. If you want no mass shootings, guns should be banned nationwide, which means giving up your 2nd Amendment and you guys are no longer "free." However, no gun doesn't mean there won't be any violence in school since murder can be done without firearms. Here in 3rd world countries, students often fight with a farm sickle, knife, sword, etc., that leads to someone's death. It's just youngsters are still mentally unstable and the school environment isn't helping, or probably only makes it worse. If you only focus on the gun, you are missing the real problem. But yeah, a mad kid with a sword is easier to control than a mad kid with an AR-15.

It's clear that there are complex factors at play, including gun accessibility, mental health, and legislative measures. In France, we have a different approach to gun ownership with strict regulations and limited access. This has contributed to lower incidents of gun violence. It's crucial for societies to engage in open dialogues and explore comprehensive solutions that prioritize safety and well-being for all.

A report indicates that 12 children die and 32 are wounded from gun violence in America each day and people are using this evil for politics. The best strategy to control these senseless killings should be to restrict gun ownership because the root cause of this problem is easy access to firearms. We have had cases of young children killing their teachers and pupils not because of mental health issues but unhindered access to firearms. If guns are easy to access it will make people with mental issues channel their grievances to shoot and kill people. In my country, many people are suffering from mental health but it is not expressed in shootings because nobody has access to guns except law enforcement agencies. There are powerful gun manufacturing companies and unions that are lobbying the legislature to block laws that will regulate gun ownership in the US. Except the government realizes that they need to take drastic action on this matter,  I am sorry the killings might keep increasing.

It is a very sad phenomenon in the United States and the worst part is that nothing meaninful is being done the prevent the next one to happen.

Democrats say it is the easy access to guns and Republicans it is anything but guns: mental health, demons, lack of a good uprising, etc.

While I agree mental health has a very important impact on the occurrence of this mass shootings in American schools, Republican politicians and lawmakers still refuse to fund easily available mental healthcare. They must be that afraid of anything resembling socialism, to the point of not being coherent to their own theory on what originates this acts of mass destruction.

If you say it is mental health, then the next time the GOP is supposed to do is pass as many laws as possible to guarantee anyone who feels depressed, suicidal or fantasies with murder gets the counceling and medication they need to save their life and other's.
