It's a very sad incident since your 98.9 Ethereum hacked. But you acted like a fool using Metamax wallet basically you had a lot of funds. And since you had a lot of money, hackers hacked your wallet. If you had used a hardware that was safe for your money, you would not have faced such a loss and hackers would not have been able to hack your money. But instead of doing them, you put your money in a software wallet, because of which hackers hacked and transferred your money very quickly. We know that if cryptocurrency transactions are transferred to a wrong address, it is never possible to get them back and it is never known to which person's wallet they have been transferred. So it will never be possible to fully recover your money that the hacker has hacked, it's really sad for you.

I was really interested to know how did the hacker was able to hack the meta mask wallet? Did the OP share his seed with anyone, or his computer was malware effected?

Funds lost from the crypto wallet are not recoverable, so no matter how much OP offered the bounty, no one can recover his funds. Also, after making this post he never returned on the forum. Sometimes if you face so much loss, you can have heart attack or something like that because of a shock or traumatization? I hope OP is alive Huh

Hi Everyone,
Someone just hacked my metamask wallet and took 98.9 eth or 470,000 usd. If anyone can please help in where to start to get this back it would be life changing.

Here is there address who they took the 4th
https://etherscan.io/address/0x9ec869191de9d514b82ecc1c1e0f227910467a38

Here is the etherscan of the transaction me

Come to think of it OP, I wonder what 98 Ethereum is doing there on metamask. The size of the value of your money doesn't even cross your mind to buy a hardware wallet to put the amount of ETH you have.

You are a rich person, you should have thought of taking care of your assets dude, so I can only say be careful who you talk to, I am pretty sure there are many who will pretend to help you but you don't know that you are talking to a scammer.

Even if you give a good advice for OP still he cannot read those as he is inactive since 2021. And its irrelevant to point out something which is happen from the past since this is not irreversible not have chance to recover anymore whatever he do.

Maybe for other new reading this just be careful so that they never experience what OP experience since being victim of hacking is really stressful to ys so we need to be vigilant on what we do especially on sharing some important information to anyone.

I'm sorry to hear that your wallet was hacked and you lost significant money. Here are some steps you can take to try and recover your stolen funds: Contact Metamask support, Contact the police, Contact exchanges   where the hacker has transferred funds, Hire a professional recovery service, and also monitor the blockchain. However, unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will be successful. Good luck.

I doubt if Op's claim is true because he only came to the forum and created this thread and left the forum without coming back to see the development of his thread.

But if it happens that the op claim is true then I do hope he's doing fine because situations like this could lead to someone doing the unthinkable, hopefully, nothing bad has happened to Op because losing such huge funds could cause devastating effects.

Also whilst it is not late, do these as a good practice.

The first step you should take is to secure your remaining assets by moving them to a new wallet. This will prevent the hacker from stealing any more of your funds.

Next, you should contact the Metamask team and report the hack. They may be able to assist you in recovering your stolen funds. Additionally, you should also contact your local law enforcement agency and file a report.

You should also consider changing all of your important passwords and enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on any accounts you have that support it.

It's important to be vigilant and take steps to secure your cryptocurrency wallets and other online accounts to prevent future hacking attempts.

You shouldn't have placed so many assets in a simple wallet.  If the assets had been replaced by a hardware wallet, such a big accident would not have happened.  Hackers have hacked you and you have become destitute.
Learn to use hardware wallets to make decisions faster.  Hardware wallets are unlikely to be hacked if you don't share the password with anyone.
Finally a suggestion to you, you seriously stop hanging around especially with newbies.  Because people close to you will never be able to handle the greed of so much wealth.  Due to which private key can be stolen from your device.  It is better to avoid these events that you can be cheated like this.

I doubt there is a way to get it back without involving a government security agency who would trace the transaction and hopefully to a CEX where the KYC details of the thief will be gotten and arrested.

Before government take an action towards the case happen on simple individual for sure the hacker already get away with the money he hack from someone and those exchange cannot do any counter measure since the is so fast to withdraw the amount he stole. Also I doubt there are dumb hackers will send the money the stole to KYC compliance exchange so for now its really hard to trace up the real identity of the hacker we can also add up that crypto transaction is irreversible so if you are a victim of hacking better start to move on since you cannot do anything with it anymore. Just make sure next time same incident will never happen to you.

Hello, I was curious about the subject, it happened to me once but it was because I sent money by mistake.

There is only one way and it has to do with the network they used, unfortunately many countries are still prohibited from trading crypto and the authorities evade this, leaving the user without hope.

But there is 1 method today that can work if there are interested.

one example of carelessness when saving large funds in an online wallet even though many have been advised to save in a cold wallet that is not connected to the internet all the time. because nowadays there are so many online wallet hacks that happened several times I read threads saying if funds were hacked from Metamask or TrustWallet. but sometimes people ignore this and think everything will be fine.

and for your current problem no one will be able to help you unless you cooperate with the market that the eth sent from the hacker and you ask for help from the police to investigate the hacker. even though the chances are small but at least you are trying to get your money back.

and my advice if someone offers services to help you via PM or something else, don't believe it. don't be fooled twice.

sorry about this incident

I can feel how it feels for the OP to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars due to negligence in maintaining his crypto assets, so we can take an example in this case that our digital assets must be stored properly and safe from attacks by thieves who want to steal. take them from time to time. safe for storing digital assets has been discussed a lot in this forum so I don't need to mention the name, and for the OP I hope the lost assets can be returned

What wallet apps did you use? Is this a trusted wallet? electrum? hardware wallet? or none of the above? 98 ETH is a huge amount in my country. Maybe you clicked on a phishing site that led to your wallet address being entered by the hacker, or maybe you didn't properly save your private key for the wallet address where your 98 Ethereum is located.

I know that I haven't seen anyone here in the forum who also told stories like yours that their wallet addresses were also hacked and the contents of it were recovered which they did not recovered in the end, almost all of them never returned or recovered the stolen coins from their address. I'm just wondering because I've been in cryptocurrency for a few years and I've only used MEW and Metamask but I've never had a problem using these platforms.

I'm sure this is a big problem that you faced and a big lesson for you, I'm also sorry that this happened to you because I didn't discourage you but it's hard to hope that you'll get it back until we look at the transaction that's all we can do that's the thing. Next time I hope you use a cold wallet or a hardware wallet.

Hi! Let's talk in whatsapp. +639317830591
This is one of the most scariest message that users especially newbies should be scared of. Perhaps this case might be unique which am not saying it is as,
It's also coming off a beginner with zero trust record and have got nothing go loose in the event that, the results are not archived on OP's end but, IamNavi888 and that could be the end and all that would be done is the creation of a fresh account go take its place.
Be mindful of these as s Amber's always wishes to carry you over to where they would be in control.

How it's possible hack in your metamask wallet without access permission?

But I'm sure that if you are any phishing site connected to your. please check your address connected where any phishing site.
I think the thread should be locked by now because the op was not active.
Members are making comments but of no use. But one thing I have learnt from other people mistake is not to keep all the eggs in one basket.
In a discussion more than just the original poster benefit. Everyone involved learns a little bit and threads like this are indexed by Google for the next guy.

I don't see a huge issue with keeping 98 ETH in a hot wallet though. It's all about what kind of security you're looking for. Hardware wallets have good digital security, but horrible physical security. See how long it takes for you to be forced to open your hardware wallet by criminals in a large portion of the world.

There is no way to recover your funds. Next time don't enter your seed phrase or private key to any fake site, and you will be fine. But you can't do anything about it anymore.
I didn't see the OP person coming and reading the posts and suggestion. He only made one post and never returned.
The amount he lost was big and I am unable to digest that he lost this big amount. However one should not keep all their eggs in one basket.

I think this is not enough information which you provide here. How we know that the Wallet real owner is you ? Even though I think this is not possible right now . But if this is true then the matter is very sad. You should have been more careful beforehand . And we should be careful about using internet cause they use phishing  to hack our wallet and others.
This thread was created on April 22. I hope he got some relief and found the real help. I think the thread is to help him find the right source for help but discussion is going towards general discussion. Can someone tell either he got the help or still he is looking for help?

What are you talking about, exactly? Why would you want to have such a valuable asset in your hot wallet? I'm not sure you'll be able to recoup such a large sum of money. Be wary of scams so you don't lose your money again. Some jerks will ask you to pay to get your money back; don't give them a dime because getting that back would be really difficult.

Am i the only one who see who stole it actually. I can bet with you 100% that people who made Hokkaido coin stole if from you easily, when you buy that scam coin, you approve them to come into your wallet and get your funds.

I was hacked the same way. I got my money back because i am crazy and it was only 10.000$... If you want help contact me on telegram @faucetmillionareadmin

I can`t guarantee you that you will have all back, but that is too big money and they are too stupid, so we can get at least 50% of it. Contact me and contact me anybody who got scammed, i am crazy man i can find those people and i know how to speak with them to get at least what they have left back.
But your trust page says "anyone dealing with deeivee is at a high risk of losing money". You better clear this out first before asking a deal like this. The OP did not provide any other details and we do not know if he is involved in token investments because he only said that he have an xx amount of ether's. If he already have that huge amount of ethers, why would he risk that on some new token projects that are very risky?

When he can already earn by holding it alone or he can stake it and do other profitability activity that are not risky as investing in newer projects. You claim that you are crazy? But how can that help you recover the coins? Hackers are more crazier than you.

So I checked through the address again and the ETH has already been spent by now. It looks like OP was not the only victim of the scam. There are other addresses that have been labelled as phishing addresses that have been sending in stolen tokens from other sites

Labelled phishing addresses

I am unable to digest that someone lost such a huge amount. You are surly the person with strong nerves. That is a very costly lesson learnt – I am no expert to suggest you the way out (the only thing i know is that you cant recover them). But I couldn’t stop myself from writing my sincerest wishes that you may recover the lost amount. Lots of prayers your way.
Did you remember the saying " Don’t put all the eggs in one basket"  we use to read  in our school text book. That is what I too have learnt the hard way.

That was really a huge amount of money, I don't think you would be able to get it back but you might be able to track it down. I think there are some services somewhere that might help you with that. I was just curious why would you put a huge amount of ETH on a metamask wallet? I think you should consider the safety of your coins by investing a little on a hardware wallet or something more safe than it.

Tracking it will just make the owner upset and feel depressed on what happen to him so what's best for him is he should start to move on in that incident since as you stated the balance taken to him will never be back so I guess this should be another reminder that we need to be vigilant all the times and make sure our wallet and other important documentations, account, wallet and others is at safe and never be stolen by anyone.

So sad to hear that. It's a very big amount of dollar. I think you need you keep huge amount of dollars in hardware wallet. Software wallet are so risky. Software wallets can easily hacked. So, don't keep a big amount in software or online wallets. There are different types of techniques that hackers use for stealing users data.

Another Metamask hack case. Unfortunately, there are more and more cases of Metamask hacking. Of course, everyone says that it is due to user errors, but I am beginning to suspect that something really bad is happening with this application.

I wonder if it is related to access to disk and retrieving wallet data (I did not investigate how strong it is encrypted - and if it is secured at all). Then metamask as a UI for hardware wallet should be a better solution.

And of course there are also attacks like that:

You have received alot of suggestions and they are all pretty much valid. So i won't suggest u anything, u already know what you should had done. But yeah, it hurts.. i have gone through that and i know how it feels, though my loss wasn't that huge but still it was a loss and i made a few mistakes making me learn few things.
This is really a costly lesson learned for someone and for sure majority of us do really have some experience in related to this on which you do lost up money due to your carelessness and lack of knowledge which is understandable but for someone who do have big funds or money invested then you would
be having those questions on mind on why the heck they arent aware off on things when it comes to security? which its actually understandable or you
would be mind off specially you know that you are storing big funds?

I'm sorry to lose so much money. However, I'm afraid the chances of getting it back are nil.

You never come back to the forum to check the possible solution to your problem. If you ever be online, I would like to know first that how can we believe that this is your wallet?

Theoretically, the OP doesn't have to be logged in to read the answers, and apart from the advice given to him by @hugeblack, no one can do anything else. People take the security of their digital assets too lightly, because what else to say if someone keeps almost half a million $ in a browser extension or mobile app? It’s an easy job for hackers, even for the less experienced ones.

I understand that he can read the replies without login into his bitcointalk account, but I was expecting him to reply even after he have read the replies that bitcoin once lost cannot be recovered. Maybe he should have asked more about the precautions he should take while owning crypto for the future (as his loss is not a small one) or maybe I am expecting too much.

Secondly, if we believe the first part is true, then let us know how was our wallet hacked? Did you share your passphrase with anyone or it was because of any malware on your system or browser on which metamask was installed?

Similar dire events will remind the community of the need to comply with safety measures. It is a pity that the topic starter gave few details. It would be good to know where he kept the metamask private keys in order to understand the vulnerability in this story. On a PC or physical storage media.
Even though we know where the private key is, the fund can't recover anymore.
I think the last drop of the OP ETH lost was on the exchange and swap it into other coins which are easy to withdraw and swap again into other coins and then to the scammer's wallet without having any footprint that can be traceable.

OP didn't give further information and it might OP was moved on of the loss he has.
We should always be careful in our valuable assets, never invest on double divestment scam and never disclose to anyone our private keys.

Wow that’s super unfortunate. Whoever did that is risking a lot of jail time of they’re ever caught! Hope you can get your coins back man goodluck. Crypto is so anonymous I doubt you ever will, best to just put it in the past and move on with your life vs worrying about it. Hopefully things work out for you. Stay strong. 💪💪💪💪

If it is your wallet, you can sign message using:

  • access your wallet using MyEtherWallet page and Select Browser Extension option
  • your MetaMask will popup, open it and connect using your MetaMask account
  • no you can access your MyEtherwallet[1] go to >> Sign a message with your wallet address and sign message as link belown.

Unfortunately, signing a message will prove your seriousness. If you have money, hire a team to track your currencies and open a report at the nearest police station.

you are doing too much risk by keeping that many assets in a hot wallet like metamask.
you may be able to find someone who is an expert who can be trusted in this matter but indeed things like this are very difficult and you may later be exposed to double fraud.
avoid seduction that does offer services but asks for payment up front, this is certainly something that can make things worse.
on the other hand as others have said here, you have to learn with cold storage

1. Next time learn to use cold storage for such big amounts.
2. For this kind of issues you need professional help and probably law enforcement agencies too (at least police, but it won't be easy)
3. You should ignore/avoid all the private discussions with members of the forum - especially newbies - whether in forum's private messages, whether by other means because you can easily end up getting scammed/losing more than that.

Even metamask support will not help this issue since in the first place you are the one liable on your wallet and the same other says this amount should not place in that kind of wallet since this is prone of hacking so maybe next time when you have huge balance try to use trezor since its more safe than using myetherwallet. Also better move on since this is I think the best thing you need to do since there's almost impossible chance that you can recover that balances from the hacker.

Be careful not to fall for a double scam (those offering service to help recover an account with an upfront fee) because there's no way they can recover it for you. They can help you trace the transactions but that's about it. I think you're also capable of tracing using explorers though and that means you won't need these investigators.

I read some comments on etherscan on that address and it seems you're also one of the victims of a fake Uniswap website.

What was 98.9 ETH doing in a metamask hot wallet?  Cry
That amount should have been keep in a cold hardware wallet away from the internet and hackers.

That being said, chances of you recovering the money are almost zero unless if the hacker moves the funds to an address of a centralized exchange, and you contract them with the help of the authorities to freeze the funds in time.

No one here can help you recover that money.
