Google hosted its Pwnium 2 competition at Hack in the Box 2012 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The winner, Pinkie Pie, went home with a $60,000 prize and a free Chromebook. Pie, incidentally had also won $60,000 in the first Pwnium competition held earlier this year. The bug that Pie had discovered relies on a WebKit Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) compromise to exploit the renderer process. This time, he found a bug in the IPC layer to escape the Chrome sandbox.

pwnium is kind of stupid, these guys just type in their site address and root the box 3 seconds into the competition. Why even bother setting up some giant event and getting people to attend physically when they can just email their exploits

Isn't that the point. To show piss poor software is security wise. I mean if the kid down the road can hack Apples iOS does it mean he is the smartest guy in the world or that programs are not properly debugged due to time constraints?
