Hackers will always find a way, it they see some hole with the security and you carelessly share the details of your wallet, you can be a victim of those hackers. They will not choose wether its for charity or not, as long as they can get money from that they will grab it. Who the heck gives a copy of their key to anyone? That’s not advisable and you should not do that at all costs.

It's just so disappointing that the funds which are supposed to help a charity have been hacked and stolen. I think it's just another reminder to all of us to be mindful in keeping our private keys and as much as possible, we shouldn't entrust them to anyone else. Once we leak it we are giving hackers a chance to steal our funds.

Now that Ethereum is suppose to get cheaper to use, will people instead of maybe giving a few people a copy of your key, they instead get a vote in a smart contract that authorizes funds to be sent?

Ethereum foundation themselves said that merge wont be helping with gas prices. But even with ignoring that smart contract could be a good solution for something like this. But rom my experience, most of the holders don't vote like EVER. And you really can't trust masses on doing the right thing because majority of people are stupid and greedy. When ever they get a change they would distribute it amongst themselves.

Aren't the migration from PoW to PoS supposed to make the Ethereum blockchain to scale better, and with that better scaling I think it will affect the gas fee because then the Ethereum blockchain will be processing more and faster transaction. At least that's what I understand, so maybe not directly but it will still affect the gas fee.

Talking for charity is good to hear even though our money has been stolen, but I don't think they can afford to hack our wallet, bro, unless a copy of your wallet key is given to them,
It's still no good because the money are now in the hands of the hacker and not those who really deserved it. In case we accidentally leaked our private keys then we should act quick and transfer the amount into a fresh wallet and then totally abandon the old one as hacker may hack it anytime if they haven't started yet.

Now that Ethereum is suppose to get cheaper to use, will people instead of maybe giving a few people a copy of your key,
Cheaper in terms of what? Fees? I think this isn't confirmed yet but we will observe it, these coming days if there's really an improvement in terms of fees. Private keys should be kept in private, that is why its name is private keys. I think those people who gave it are newbies or out of their mind if they aren't really a newbie after all.

50%+ etc

Now the hacker has to hack many devices, people, etc.

This was suppose to be for charity afterall, not personal funds.

Looks like you are still a newbie in the space, which is OK, we learn something new every day. Sorry to break it to you, smart contracts too get exploited by hackers time and again. Just do a Google search about "smart contract hacks" and you will see how much crypto has been lost so far in the exploits.

Here should be your beginning point - Top 17 Smart Contract Hacks in 2021-2022 Found by 4IRE

Looks like you're the noob, badly programmed smart contracts get exploited.  Roll Eyes

Guess we should all stop using computers by your failed logic. Stop using Bitcoin, Windows, Linux, phones, the internet etc.

Something as simple as a yes/no vote for approving funds being moved wouldn't be exploited unless someone with your understanding programmed it leaving a back door to be exploited.

Sounds to me like you didn't even read HOW these "smart contracts" were exploited before talking like an ass hole.

Did you buy your forum account or something? How does someone who is as active as you on this forum make a post that ignorant while trying to call someone a "newbie in the space"?  Roll Eyes

Learn at least the basics of smart contracts before you talk, noob.

Even if its for charity, if there’s a way to hack that system most probably someone will try it and this time the hackers succeed. If he knows how to secure that wallet, most probably hackers wont get it easily but incidents already happened and probably it will be hard to recover those money. This is why we should always protect our keys and our system, if we have the money better to avail the highest security option available in the market to avoid this kind of problem.

There is no doubt that the transition of Ethereum to Proof of Stake POS will reduce the security of the network a lot, it is true that the fees will become much lower but also the security will decrease a lot, if a large number of people managed to defraud and they had a large stake, they would be able to mislead when checking the transaction, this is a weak possibility, but it exists , I think there should be other mechanisms to make the network more secure. Hackers are always looking for vulnerabilities to sequence.
