This kind of attack in my opinion is an inside job, there must a intense security when it comes to essential infrastructures like electricity, water and oil to name a few. The only way this could be resolved is by paying the attacker and trying their best to trace the transfer.

Maybe this incident also relate the word hack and bitcoin into the mind of people, but here the hack attack happened due to the poor security system of admininstration control panel and unencrypted files so nothing to blame about bitcoin here.
It is and another sure thing that they'll blame bitcoin for this hack and ransom.But educated people with cryptocurrencies or at least understands that it is an internet money won't look that way. They'll consider that the negligence is due to the K-Electric's poor system.
It's a big ransom with a load of millions of customers info.

Have been always the case and im already dumb when it comes to these kind of hacking news where Bitcoin or other crypto got involved yet its been mainly used as a tool for such transactions which can really give out that negative perception or views towards bitcoin.This is just that typical hacking incident with
that having a ransom for them to release those documents and files.$3.5 wont really be that big if those files are really that important but if not
then they can opt out on just to ignore.This is why it do really matters when it comes to security so a company wouldnt really end up on this kind of
situation.
Most of the time, they only think their security when hacking happens or any thing related to it. For all companies that are storing vital info of their customers, I think their top priority is to always secure their network from potential malwares or hacking incidents. We will know in few days time what's gonna be the action of K-electric towards these hackers. Are they going to pay or not?

Essentially "our staff don't know how to securely use computers and download random stuff from suspicious emails and our admin decided it'd be a great idea to not maintain a good enough level of backups and connect all the devices together for even less security"...
I hope they don't produce nuclear electricity anyway otherwise I'd have bigger concerns...

Another proof that bitcoin is growing underground and hackers are enjoying the privacy feature of bitcoin!
Another story that de-glorifies bitcoin in front of the common mass!
Few more eyeballs looking at me with suspicion when I say I use bitcoin!

Hackers Compromised The Billing Systems Of Pakistan’s Biggest Electricity Producer K-Electric With A Ransom Of $ 3.8 Million
K-Electric served more than 2.5 million customers in the country and faced disruptions in online payment and payment services following the attack. K-Electric engineers discovered the attack on September 7, but the power supply in the city was not affected.
Hackers used the “NetWalker” attack to compromise the company – a strain discovered in 2019 that infected popular software applications running on Microsoft Windows, such as Office, Word, and Excel, according to a report from the cybersecurity website Bleeping Computer. Once deployed, NetWalker will encrypt the data on the victim’s computer and disable file access until the ransom is paid off.
The hacker followed the same steps with K-Electric. After infecting the utility, they demanded $ 3.8 million in ransom pay in Bitcoin through the Tor anonymous browser.
The hackers said:
“If there is no payment made by September 15, the price increased by two times and will be $ 7.7 million.”
The same message noted that the hacker operator stole unencrypted files from K-Electric before carrying out the attack. However, it does not reveal the exact type of data they have stolen or the total amount of files stolen.
