I laugh when I see people talking about good pay with government job. I think the medical sector is the highest paid sector recently in Nigeria and still most of our doctors are still complaining. Most have even travelled out of the country because of not well paid. Most people prefer Government work because of it's simplicity, guarantee of getting paid at month ends and sometimes it gives space for the lazy. Some even get paid for work they didn't do. This made me remember some of my friends during Npower. Most collect this monthly stipend without leaving their house. But establishing a business of your own may be so stressful and even require you to be handworking for you to be successful.

This points are really correct a rich man's son has not finished learning in the most prestigious schools in town wen will he have to start learning how to be a designer, mechanic, barber and so on u r quite correct .  Some other reasons for lack of skill acquisition is also lack of passion and zeal watever skil  you don't have passion for you end up not finding it interesting as such you might not b able derive joy from learning as such your aim might not be achieve and you will end up thinking you made a mistake taking up the skill
Also people should go for skills they feel it's part of there purpose wen you do wat gives you joy and fulfilment you have no regrets    I think the motives for chosing a skill should be revisited people should not choose a skill for reasons that are not reasonable enough  I think the basics for chosing a skill should be of the interest of the person learning the Skil not some persuasions from people

E get one thing some people dey normally talk “ my savings don save me” this talk dey very funny. Some people them no just get the idea to invest money and some go say them dey fear to invest because of the rate of scam but I ask myself watin they wan invest if they fear the rate of scam. Other invest strategy dey it most not be only on bitcoin or on other cryptocurrencies though e dey good to invest on crypto ooo but they fit invest on crop farming, real estate investment, agriculture investment, e.t.c. But make we look two ways some no just get that money if any money enter their hand watin them go first thing na food for them and their children

Thank you very much senior man for this last paragraph, I honestly don't understand why some workers don't know how to invest and save up incase of rainy days, that's why I get upset when I hear someone telling me "look at this man, he was very rich before until he lost his job" and am like, what was he doing with his money? We should really learn how to make our money work for us and bring us more money. I think learning how to make money work for us is a skill on its own.

This question is very tempting because both are good and it's hard to choose but if you think about it very well you will see that one is more important than the other, government work with a huge income is good but what if? What if they replace you some day? What if your services are no longer needed? What if your fellow colleague frame you for something you no nothing about and the management sack you and spoil your reputation along the lines, a friend of mine got as a government employee got framed by a colleague that was envious of him and all evidence pointed at him even though he was innocent and he lost his job just like that.

Things are happening these days my people and it's only God that guides us, do you know that some colleague go as far as going spiritual/juju just to get their fellow colleague out of the way for a promotion? This one happened to my dad and he almost lost his life. But with your handwork/skill you can be self-employed and do things your own way without pressure, as a Nigerian with a good skill (advantage) you can survive abroad and that is what government employees don't have.

Lastly, getting a skill has nothing to do with your poor background na you won go big place go learn skill, choose a place of your level and learn some skill.

E no too dey easy find work, and e fit stress person well-well financially. Na why many of us dey find way create work for ourselves. If good work wey pay well show face, nobody go wan pass am. I believe say if I see government work wey dey pay well, I go do am, save money, and later on, I go start business wey go allow me make more money. But with the way economy be, I think say e good make people learn skill.

Both hand work and government job good make person get ahm but some people are just so confused that they don't even know what they want in life.  Even the government job they don't even know what it takes to have a government job, even to acquire a skill that will generate money for them is a problem. If we really know what we want, we can still live good life from them all.  Having a skill is  the easiest way of generating money thus days without depending in anybody.

True… but I believe that everybody is built different there are some people who aren’t naturally business oriented while there are some who can simply glance at the wall and boom a whole lot of awesome ideas come to their head, it’s not something that is bad because it’s how the almighty created them… at the same time these same business oriented people might still not be good when it comes to a collar job and vice versa.

 Everyone should know their strength and weakness because that’s the first step To becoming a successful entrepreneur or employee. Secondly, in the present state of Nigeria I can say confidently that starting a business without a strong support behind one is not as easy as it may sound. For example; man A who has just learnt a handwork and is trying to start a new business it’s won’t be so easy if he doesn’t have a backbone in terms of finances…. This is one of the hinderance and why people go for a white collar job.

But considering the state of Nigeria economy it’s not advisable to have a handwork to fall back to at anytime.

If you dey determined, patience no go be problem for you as you go fit wait for as long as e take for you to learn hardwork knowing that after you're done learning say your life dun set for life but we go allow lack of patience to spoil everything. I dey take myself as example, when my mates dey learn Forex trading I been dey use am play but I dey regret sometimes for the kind money I for fit dey make but I dey thank God for my life sha.

Handwork dey type by type, no be the same handwork wey the poor dey learn wey you go expect the rich to learn. Another name for handwork na skills so if the poor dey learn bricklayer as handwork, the rich fit dey learn Forex or other big man hustle so coming from a rich family no supposed make you no learn a skill or skills.


Unless you no get sense as many Nigerians no get because we weren't enlighten if not we no suppose suffer after governments or private sectors drop us from work. All those times wey you dey receive that kind money, why you no invest am or build a business for yourself. The difference between a smart person and a foolish person no much and na just one line which is knowing how to make the money youhave to work for you through investment or building a business.

Some people get wealthy by working for the government because the money they earn allows them to start a business or invest in it. There is nothing wrong with that anyone who is given the opportunity can obtain it and succeed. If you say you prefer skills more than government is your opinion you believe skills is the best option for you to become rich, but there are many skills that don't have value because there is not any skill that you will say you will start and become rich quickly, technology has made many things easier in the world, they don't too value handwork now he doesn't generate income easily is just time to time, That is why many people are focusing on online platforms where they can invest and make a lot of money, because you won't see a place where you can go and get money and still engage in your skills that will stress you, which will take a long time and you will never give 100% that the skill I am doing will make me rich, so it is better for me to be patient with my investments than to suffer for something I am not sure about.

My dear your right to some extent but let me tell you more about the reality of your remarks our dearly beloved country is a corrupt one to start with while in your wonderful government work office have you thought about how many times government owes salaries without any assurance of payment currently our education and medical sectors are failing due to excessive debts most of our doctors are leaving the country everyday when this happens what will you do, When you’ll be asked to look the other way so the nations budget can be shared between your bosses will you expose them or keep shut and take you share further plunging the country into greater impoverishment
Now if you had a skill and you’re hard working you’ll serve everyone imagine you’re a mechanic machines will always break down even those of the governors you’ll fix and they must pay what about if you were a tailor you make clothes and we all know most tailors take advance payments infact most skilled laborers in Nigeria take advance payments prior to the commencement of the job.
My advice in general is no matter the field you find yourself working in government or private enterprises find a skill and specialize in it you can be fired any day.

Let me start by saying that success is when preparation meets opportunity and there's an adage that says you don't watch the masquerade whilst standing at a spot.
Most life decisions especially with respect to career choices and or just means of earning a livelihood are subject to a lot of factors like luck,connection,educational qualification, religious,social and cultural beliefs,health conditions,family to mention but a few

There is no definite or cut out path towards success,yes it is the fact that especially in Africa,success has always been attributed to hardwork but in recent times with a surge in technological innovations and diversified career options mostly revolving around the digital world(use of gadgets like computers,mobile phones etc)the importance of trade learning and career anchored on or around brute force has been greatly downgraded not so much as in an effort to underscore it's benefits but rather in a bid to promote smarter and less strength intensive career options since either approach leads to same end result(earning a living and or becoming successful)

It is getting more challenges to live without earning because i wonder what is happening to regulations the prices are even no longer in contro. And a lot of people are out their with job so the best thing that can happen is for any one to get their self a skill a demanding one because someone of my friends that are still in the university were gisting me of how they have increased their school fees and it is now looking as if you spend more on the education that their is no assurance of even getting a job, I feel it is even more better to learn a skill and if you know how to present your self then their should not be a problem.

And with the first factor. It will be difficult because their will be other means for the rich to get more money and even if it is you op I don't think you been rich will make you learn a skill. And poor people are the once that even considering  learning a skill the most. And patience is always the key to everything weather skill or not patience must be embraced.

I use to advise as many people I have an encounter with about career in life, what I first tell is for the to look beyond the present and set more focus on the future, does the job they wanted to embark on has a future benefits or advantage or they just want to do such and ended up wasting their time to be served nothing at the end, maybe it was tldie to lack of some of these understandings that make some of the senior citizens we see today unable to make life affordable for themselves at old age because they've got nothing to fall back on.

Handwork good oh but for dis case I prefer the well paid government work.Because I go use the money wey government dey pay me take invest on other business.Make I just talk say I dey work for the government and my pay dey okay.Because I wan invest on  other business,I go just buy like two-three bus employ people wey go dey drive am,like dat na investment because my source of income dey come from other angles.Because even if I no dey work for the government again I know say I gain, because I don use their money invest.And we know how transportation business dey run for Naija if no be fuel price wey high,even as dat transporters dey make money on a daily because pipo dey travel everyday.So nai make I choose well paid government work over handwork.

When I was small one of my uncle told me that if I want to become a rich man in the society I should not work in for government but self-employed. And all the three options you mentioned above the best option is Skill. If one is skillful then he has to work hard to achieve him purpose or goal. Di world most richest people are not government workers but if you want to be an average or belonging to di middle class, then you can go to the government side and work. There is nothing like being your own boss.

First before you talk about this you have to also put inconsiderate the country the employment is going to be, and in this case I am guessing you are talking about Nigeria.
Firstly right from school you would understand that this government doesn't care about the masses, our system of education is terrible regardless we still find away to go around it only to meet high rate of unemployment and even the available jobs pay poorly. So I would rather take learning a new skill.

I go prefer both not just about the current economy situation but because both dey helpful, when talking about professional jobs na big money we dey talk about cause some companies dey wey still dey pay big so even with this big money wey go sustain the family till month end e good make person get skill while others will learn to meet up the family needs, some people just feel too lazy to learn something aside from the reasons the op gave some people are just naturally lazy to learn skills and people like this go dey complain about the economy when they're not even making any effort to work and secondly money fit hinder the process cause even the least skill need money so without money nobody fit learn any skill.

    I agree with you in that, it solely depends on the individual because not everyone can handle the pressure of working under someone, same implies to those who can’t work alone. They are able to function well in that tense environment as long as the pay is good and they are okay with it.  Ee no matter which work you day do as long say the money day come and you fit fund your bills. Handwork is very necessary most especially when you are living in a country where the system does not work and is ruled by corruption and all manner of negative polity,  so having a government job in such a country is just like gambling you can lose it at any time and that the reason you have to work out modalities that will support you when that happens to the presence of comparison between government job vs skills,  is not anywhere comparable at all and for that skills should be a primary thing for all.

One of the popular skills to learn is to be able to be employable globally and work remotely,  and this requires contemporary skills.

Just as said well paid job would definitely be more embraced because a lot of persons would consider the time factors in learning to obtain the skills before creating a self reliance job and yet you would still need person's to hire you as an individual before you could make could of profitablities While the for the government, yes of course some criteria measures would also be considered because it should be believed that you can just give it up to the dumpheads who does not posseses the qualities that is required to deliver the government jobs.

Government job with good pay is good but nothing pays like good skills. Your skills can make you rich within limited time but most government workers live on loan for them to live an average like. For me, I will rather good for a skill that I know is needed in this recent time.

The poor naim supposed to even see hand work as good opportunity sef because money no go fly from heaven come meet you, I remember when I been wan learn how to do recoiling of pumping machine, fan, blender generator coil etc. na oghoaja naim I do take get money to pay for installment fee.  So I see how poor background fit hinder any body to learn hand work.

For me, I will go for the well paid government work. My reasons are very valid to me and there is nothing that will change my mind about it. Firstly, with my government work, I am guaranteed salary every month for the next 35 years with a percentage increase in the salary every 3 years. Secondly, I won’t need to spend the whole day at work, if it is a very serious job, I will be working from 8-5PM daily with some days off as holidays which are given to every government worker in every calendar year. Thirdly, I will have time to create a skill for myself that can be built from my savings I get from the government work, if I plan it well, it will be my source of income after I retire from the government work. And lastly, pension is guaranteed and I will be paid monthly for the rest of my live.

Coming from a rich family no be excuse for no hustling or learning a skill. Wetting they cause that thing na the rich people always dey pamper there children say them no want make them suffer afteral them don make enough money so wetting be the need of too much hutle. And indirectly making the child to be lazy, forgetting say if there children no Start from from scratch say even the wealth wey dem dey keep for them, dem go miss use am because them never make #50k on there own before, and Naim they make many companies fold after the death of the owner. Because of mismanagement but apart from that I don see many rich kid wey no depend on there parent wealth but still make am for Life.

Poor background no fit hinder person from success or learning a skill. Infact the poverty family wey you come from naim go give you the motivation to learn a skill. 2. Humble and humility: for you to be successful in learning a skill be humble sothat the person wey dey teach you work gk bring out him mind to teach you wetting e dey Hide for you otherwise you fit stay 5 years without learning anything.
3. Dedication and smartness: smartness no be to shine eye, rather to bring your mind say you wan learn work and bring the very best in you. Many are called but few are chosen and if you no bring your mind you fit still no learn the work.
4. Creativity: above all Creativity Naim be most thing wey dey hinder most of us. Stop to dey copy rather try to do your own thing in another dimension and see if e dey worthy of people to like am. When I been learn piping work no be the way my oga teach me wey I been dey do I try to be creative and people come dey like my work even pass my oga work, no be say na pride o but with that creative when you don serve your boss come start on your own, na work go dey find you.


Sometimes no be every work wey you learn wey you go save money to start work. And morover a learning place is not a saving place rather a place to gather skill find the job you learn and when money don dey come you start up your  own business and start saving.

Hand work na better something wey go really help a lot for now wey be say things come hard small. The thing be say if everybody come go learn hand work e no go too make sense, who go pay who nah, e dey always better if the demand of the labor go pass the laborers so man fit see food put for him table.

Now comparing hand work and well paying job is one thing on its own, you can still be getting paid as a government employee and still be maintain your handwork somewhere, a need may arise which might give you much profits as your 3 months salary.

Considering on choosing one over the other i would go for being a government worker, getting a good payment with some benefits, less stress and enough chance to owning and growing a new business.
I know those who use hand work to feed their family barely have chances of their own free will, you get to deliver at the time which your customer needs the service if not will intrigue him into looking for someone else to do the job.

If you no won go school, the beat time to learn skill na when you just finish college, when you still set with you parents so that you no go lack shelter and food, your own na just to concentrate on your work to learn am know am well. But if you son already be family man or na you dey fend for yourself, he go somehow dey very stressful to learn skill. Learn skill at young age so that as you dey grow up, you dey get more experience for the skill. Hungry no dey catch people wey learn skill because no how wey the country hard reach base on no job, individual go need their service. My friend na graduate but God help am say he use community chance go work for shell wey he learn iron bending, na wetin he dey use take care of him family as he no get government work or company work because everyday people dey build house and them mist need him service.

Keep the country outside, e still dey good for a good citizen of any country to get any skill at all because we know say person no dey younger forever and even if say you dey work for any company either oil company or and construction companies, if you done reach the age of 60 them go retire you and pay you off (like millions of naira or dollars).
And you know with your skills, if you done retire from work and you still dey active to do other works, either you start business with your pension money or you use the pension money take put your skills to work
Although, this matter we no go fit keep am outside from this discussion because really really this country done open a lot of people eyes to know say skills still dey good for many people to go learn them, and watin the Op dey talk still dey right

Having a skill is as good as getting a government or non-government-paid job, but it's all about individuality. I might love to work for the government, and you might want a self-employed job. The situation in our country has shifted the quest for jobs to a skill interface, but the truth is that whatever makes you comfortable should be what you most go for because there is no amount that any job can pay you monthly that your skill cannot pay you.

These two categories of jobs have both disadvantages and advantages, so we just have to choose the one that we are most comfortable with. For me, I just prefer handwork to government employment because I control everything that happens around the business. In fact, let's say I like freedom, so it depends on the individual.

Among the 3 factors you mentioned, they are all correct from your perspective, but from my view, a poor background doesn't hinder anyone. learning their desired skills because there are skills that you don't need to register to learn, or you can just adopt the method of the Igbo tribes to serve for a few years and get your desired skills and business ready.

All you have just mentioned are actually factors that discourage some people from learning handwork, not knowing that a day will come when they will see the advantage of that handwork. To be precise, hand work now a days in Nigeria doesn’t need hard work only; you need to possess the ability to be smart. But that is what most of our people find hard to understand and think even if they try learning the handwork, they will end up getting nothing because many people have already engaged in the handwork they want to learn. If you are smart, even though thousands of people are doing the same handwork as you, if you create something new that almost all of them are doing the same work as you can’t do, you will achieve more than them.

But one thing I do consider as a factor that hindered some from learning this handwork is laziness, because if you are sure and you are ready to work, you will do all it takes to get what you want. As you mentioned earlier, some can’t engage in learning handwork because of their family background. I didn’t say it was not happening, but if you are ready to eradicate poverty in your family, you will engage, even if it is bricklaying or other construction work. You will gain some money and save some, which will help you to pay and buy some material to learn handwork.

To be sincere, handwork has done a lot for me so far. Because at first I learned male clothes sewing, when I was sure enough that I could sew the clothes well, I then engaged in learning female clothes. After that, I discovered that the number of people sewing in my area is greater than I thought. That is when I sit down and start thinking about something new that will bring me more money. That is when I start sewing joggers and hoodies. From there, almost all of the tailors in my area start looking for me so that I can teach them how to sew the joggers and hoodies. From there, the number of my customers decreased. That is when I start thinking about a new idea, which is now that I sew clothes, package them, and sell them as boutiques. At the same time, I started following some celebrities. When I see them with a new design, I will try to sew the same and sell it. If you are smart, you will achieve more with your handwork.

I think it totally depends on the individual. For example, in my family I've always wanted to own a company (probably a tech company) and not work for anybody, so I tend to pursue this entrepreneur path unlike my younger brother who wants to have a job where he gets paid, live his life simple.

One man for my place him they sell razor blades for over 20 years now but come see the big and beautiful house wey him build with the razor blade business whereas e get some Agip, Shell and Total staffs Dem wey don dey work for years but dey never mould blocks talk more of building house all they do is spend huge amount in rented houses and apartments.

Learning a skill dey very important for our society because with the way things dey for our country, if you no get hand work e dey worry well well because e get time wey the place wey person dey take collect money normally go cease yet for some time den you fit dey use your hand work dey fetch small small money dey take sustain yourself for the main time.

To learn skill no too dey dependent on weda you come from rich background or poor background so far as say na skill wey go dey fetch small small money for you after you don learn am. The factor wey you list here wey be impatient na d tin wey dey worry many people wey dey learn skills now because some of them as soon as Dem don see say dey don learn one or two thing for the skill dey go dey feel like say dey don Sabi everything, dey go start to dey drop to come learn, sometimes dem go dey come ones in a month or week dey wont be taking the skill serious again instead of dem to settle down learn the skill well then get a certificate. This one na really big problem because I remember a time wey one man of God for our country carry some youths to go learn work for China, this guys never even spend 6 months Dem return back to Nigeria say dey don learn everything wen dey know nothing as Dem come back now to display wetin dem learn for China zero nothing to write home about. So being patient while learning a skill is very important because sometimes, e get some important things wey your tutor or trainer go hide from you till wen you don dey near to finish learning your skill so if you no dey patient you go miss am because he will not tell or show you till wen you are about to conclude your training so any body wey dey learn skill make him carry head down learn am very well so that him fit represent him master wen him no dey available.

If person wey learn work for 6 to 7 years come graduate and the person no come get money to establish him own shop. The person fit find another person shop where him go attach himself dey work for the time being and raise money wey him fit take open him own. Let's say the person learn how to barb hair, and he has no money to open him own barbing shop, him fit go meet another barber for the area and bargain with the person say make him attach himself here and be working. If they barb hair there #1000 he can be giving the owner of the shop #400 for every hair him cut. I think this way he can save money and set up his own.

Another option is that he can partner with someone who can open a shop for him and he work for the shop and give percentage with the owner of the shop. With time he can set up him own shop. Instead of saying no money and he let the skill he/she learnt to waste it's better to explore any of the above options I listed.  The problem we have in this part of the world is that everyone wants to be a boss of himself and nobody wants to be under somebody again.

Bro to tell you the truth, no body go see better work come go learn handwork, you know why, good paying jobs go make you live a better and easier life, the stress wey come with handwork too much compared to higher paying jobs, and besides you fit dy work for that higher paying jobs and still run your business wey be plus too you.

Nobody will see a good job that generates good money that will turn it down, the reason why most of us create job for ourselves is because their are no much job out there if you are looking for one and most times creating a job can be very financial stressful.  I think if I see a good goverment job with a good pay , I will go for it, save money to later establish a business that can bring more income for me . But the way the economy is going I think it is good for people to get skill .

See normally we know Shey life nor easy, and we still know Shey wetting go work for Mr A might not work Mr B. Yes to learn hand work sharp normally and to school still nice. Some people don learn hand work Shey at the end e nor yield dem anything. like the way others wey learn that same thing tey dey gain am. And many people don still finish school but no work (nah this one common pass) but at first Una know Shey going to school nor guarantees Shey u go rich but nah to direct on the right path.
The truth is that anything you're doing in this life do it well either your learning hard work or schooling. Beside this crypto space as being a good side hustle for us. So as focusing on yah normal life still focus on this crypto space.

2, poor background:Yes poor background too fit hinder person from hand work for our country now wen things cost pass as we dey see am how poor person wan take cope with registration buying of materials for work and others.

3, patience: concerning the situation of things for our country now many people no get the patience to wait for money at all so them rather go being an employee than to learn hand work and we all know say the way things dey for this our country if you no get strong back up for some place of work you dey at risk of being sacked at any given time.

But wen we look am for another angle how you see am wen be say person learn work for like 6-7 years you graduate but no get the money to open ur own to be on your own? And still consider the fact say as a government worker you no dey ur place them fit drop you at any time for u to go back to square one.
