A large part of europe actually celebrates St.Martin's Day on the 11th of november.

In my country tonight the younger kids go door to door with selfmade lanterns singing songs

and recieving candy or fruit in return. (similar to trick or treat)

I've never heard the day before.  Is it only a memorial day in Canada?

No it is not only for Canada. Today is the anniversary of the end of World War I. Remember that.

The main day here in the UK is Remembrance Sunday where we observe 2 minutes at 11.00am. I was up in Trafalgar Square which is near the Cenotaph this year. We couldn't get near the Cenotaph as it was too busy and we had the pushchair with us.

We also do 2 minutes today as well, but Sunday is usually the main day.

Today, November 11th, Canada remembers those who have given their lives in defense of freedom.

Please take the time at some point today and observe just one minute of silence.
