Am I just being overly paranoid or is there other people out there who are installing business firewalls in the house?

No, you are not paranoid, I have a home setup with pfsence and I'm pretty happy with it. Having a secure vpn connection wherever I am and secure access to everything I need in my home network. Also load balancing the two internet connection so if something happens I always have a backup

You are right, I rely on Coinbase Vault for my big accounts,  but now I am getting  enough alt coins that a Trezor or such is needed. I have been using a Glyph drive with encryption for my wallet files and seeds but I do need a real dedicated hardware wallet.

Yours is the first case I've heard of, but hey, it can't hurt to have additional security, right? Most people also only really protect a couple of wallets, so setting up something like that could be considered overkill.

If we had no hardware wallets on the market, that would've been the normal security measure to take but since we do have them and you can afford one, why not just get one? these devices are safe regardless whether your network/computer is safe or not.

I agree that this is the case for pretty much every other average user out there, but OP doesn't seem very average. He has stated that he has mining equipment and servers that house sensitive data, and a hardware wallet can't do much to protect those.

I don't think that you can be careful enough with your digital security these days. Keeping your data safe including your crypto currency can be a daunting task even for people that know what they are doing.

I recently upgraded from a Linksys router to a business grade Watchguard T10 hardware Firewall.

It did take quite a while to get it working correctly, I have over 60 internet connected devices in my smart home, and that turned this project into a multi day head banging exercise.

However, now that I have it working I have a better sense of security. I am playing around with Kali Linux and trying to see just how secure my network really is.

I am running a second LAN for the kids and all of their games, laptops and printers that is on a separate network. I didn't want one of their friends infected phones to ever be able to touch my network with mining equipment and PoS servers.

Am I just being overly paranoid or is there other people out there who are installing business firewalls in the house?
