the only reason I would buy an AMD card is for mining, go with an NVidia card for gaming, same with CPU i'd get an i7 (though that may be out of price range)
So my AMD gaming computer with an ATI GPU must boggle your mind then. Wink

Edit: Let me clarify: I used to use Nvidia and Intel, all the way. They were the shit years ago. Today, they still are, but only at higher price points. At a mid-level, $800 computer, AMD offers a much better bang-for-the-buck system. I dare you to build an $800 system with Intel CPU and SSD, and still get a decent GPU that compares to my 7970.

ATI CAPS: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/crossfirex-app-profiles.aspx

1) Go to start>control panel>uninstall a program> AMD Catalyst Install Manger>Reboot.

2) Then go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
Fill out the information, your OS, ETC.

3) Install Catalyst manger>Express>reboot

4) Done, do some testing, if things still don't work,
get a older version, repeat step 1>Until it works.
If it still doesn't work, then your card is faulty.

If your gonna be useing that rig for gameing only,go with Nvidia cards.Sorry, but I'm not completely happy with my 7970 for BF3.

I have more minor issues with it than my clanmates & thier 580 & 680.

Don't get me wrong,it's a really nice card & the issues are small, but I think I'd be better with Nvidia...............

Stuttering & needing to restart almost every night because of lag like gameplay are pissing me off to no end..........

Yes,I have the latest drivers & a 965AMD quad core,8 gig of 1600 ram.Running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit with all updates.

7970 is a great miner though 620 mh/s @ 1060 core & 1375 mem @ 66 C,consuming 340 watts too  Cool
my guess is that you have a faulty card, or something in your os is screwing things up.
Did you also install the ATI CAPS? That can make a big difference, and IDK why they don't just include that in their drivers. That's what Nvidia does, IIRC, and part of why they're considered to be better drivers. I do'nt have any issues gaming on my 7970, and it really is a beast.
Shocked Whats ATI CAPS  Huh

I read up on rage3d,DL'ed it,but it was way over my head with all the settings available................
CAPS stands for "AMD Catalyst Application Profiles"

It's a separate set of profiles and bugfixes for those with Crossfire cards. Fixes a lot of the issues people have with Crossfiring cards.

Think it'll help non Xfire setups???

Where can you download it & do I need to mess with alot settings?? Hope its just install & pick a profile & go.............

I don't have any 7970.
But even my 7950 don't have any problems with BF3 at highest settings.
Sapphire Radeon HD7950 - 3GB.

There must be something wrong with your drivers.

Hmm that's strange, I have a 7970 myself, and it runs every game max with no problems,
and my card overclocked to 1200 flawlessly, its a dream card at least that's how it played for me, perhaps I got lucky in getting a good card.
Try reinstalling the drivers if it still resides then perhaps you have a bad card, like the 3D engine of the card is malfunctioning.
Try installing older drivers. Reverting back sometimes fixes the problem, or reinstalling them,
I had an issue like this in the past with a different card, and reinstalling worked.

Hello I have a few questions here.

I do know that in majority of games it comes to the GPU more then the CPU.
On http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

The AMD A10-5800K APU Scores: 7,873
And Intel Core i5-3570K @ 3.40GHz Scores: 7,135 .
Though several sites show the AMD processor to be weaker then the i3 3220
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6347/amd-a10-5800k-a8-5600k-review-trinity-on-the-desktop-part-2/6

If I were to choose between.

1) 7870+Intel i5-3570K

2) 7970+AMD A10-5800K

Let me know what would be a better option, his budget is $1200,
He is getting pre-build+OS installation + shipment costs.
so $1100 would be about max, as everything would add up to $1200 about.

Below was my build suggestion for a friend:

Which would be a better combination?
Which would game better? Would the CPU be a issue on option 2?
