You can put your RPI to work now with little effort using the MinePeon distro.  I remember the Zipit being marketed to parents years ago but don't have any experience with one, but since you said pre-made distros exist, it should be pretty easy to get the few extra packages you need and compile cgminer.  The Zipit device basically looks like it's powered by a low-end ARM chip plus has the nice feature of a built in display unit - bonus!  Good luck and please post pictures if you have any success!

I am waiting for my X6500 to arrive. Complements to EngMan!

Once it get's here I will bust out the Flip for everyone.

Thanks for responding!

There are several Linux distros for it at the moment and a plethora of modifications, for instance USB host and client.

I have a USB modded Zipit Z2 and I was wondering if it were possible to run mining software and say an FPGA.

I would think it would be neat and very cost effective in terms of power.

Let me know what you think!
Pretty much any Linux computer with USB ports can be set up to run CGMiner. I've heard of anything from wireless routers to small ARM systems like the rpi or my MK802 II. Installing Linux can be the hard part, as it's pretty easy to build CGMiner and get it up and running. I've been running my MK802 II for many months with no issues.

Yeah, I figured it would work out.

I've had my RPI for like 6 months now and I still don't use it, lol.

Once I get my hands on an FPGA I might use the RPI.

I mainly just wanted to see if anyone on here is familiar with the Zipit Z2, lol.

Thanks for responding.

I am curious if anyone has tried or successfully used a Zipit Z2 to mine for Bitcoins?

In case you don't know what a Zipit Z2 is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zipit_wireless_messenger_(Z2)

There are several Linux distros for it at the moment and a plethora of modifications, for instance USB host and client.

Here's one for instance: http://www.chainxor.org/openwrt-zipit/

I have a USB modded Zipit Z2 and I was wondering if it were possible to run mining software and say an FPGA.

Hence why I am trying to get my hands on an X6500 FPGA at the moment.

I would think it would be neat and very cost effective in terms of power.

Let me know what you think!
