Yes they are that inefficient. They are many generations of ASIC old now.Surely they can't be that bad.

It doesn't make a difference if you mine only for a few hours versus the whole day. You get paid for the 7 hours you mine regardless of which pool you choose. There is no magic way to get paid for 24 hours mining when you mine for 7. I'd suggest mining at kano.is but I'm biased.
