Recently, I have been thinking about the reason why we are all here. I believe Bitcoin's purpose was to create a new financial system but it seems that this purpose has been hijacked by the influx of new users into this space. Most people seem to care more about profit than they do freedom from tyranny. I believe that we should aspire to create a truly stable coin that operates outside of the realms of the debt driven fiat system that we currently live in. At the moment, there is no solution that fulfills this purpose in a comprehensive manner. Anyways, let me know which of the two you care more about so that I can gauge the community as a whole.

You are absolutely right! Something like this been boggling my mind as well. We're mostly no different than those brokers in suits in Wall Street. Especially since the dawn of ICOs it's mainly about profits and speculation. Unfortunately, massive implementation combined with extreme volatility brought us to this point. It's basically like Californian Gold Rush all over again. And scam ICOs are the Fools Gold...

Hopefully with some time, as the market gains stability, this phase will be over soon. But c'mon man! We're the early birds, let us get credit for this until then...

I am not wholly convinced Bitcoin has what it takes to gain massive adoption. But only time will tell.

we are to blame , we have allowed the anti bitcoins consortium to program people to see bitcoins only as a money making machine (even though it is)and to keep the focus on that , we ourselves have not done enough to educate and dissipate the correct information into the general public domain and as such those that are against bitcoins are left on their own to cause panic and mayhem though their various media.  They wage a  kind of cold war era destruction campaign against bitcoins , but as they realize  bitcoins was truly the creation of a genius think tank which  obviously thought about this possible outcome and as such has created it in such a way as to be resistant against such threats.

Unfortunately it seems that the idealism that gave rise to the concept of bitcoin at the beginning, has been gradually displaced by the speculative ambition of the capitalist market to which bitcoin was delivered from the beginning. And it is always going to be tremendously complex to conceive an alternative to the current economic model that does not awaken the primitive human impulse of accumulation, for which it still seems that bitcoin is only a first step in the search of many idealists for breaking the fiat money as the basis of human economic relations.

That is my major issue with Bitcoin and the crypto market as a whole right now. Who wants to spend something that is going to be worth more money tomorrow?

*edit* But that may be because a link between fiat and crypto still persists.

I personally believe that Bitcoin with time will do just that. It have less than 10 years old, it is in diapers still. How much time took for our current financial system to be build?

Bitcoin is the key, all the others are just the shadow. Some of them might get really expensive and might have great features, but at the end they will only be a shadow. From my point of view, only Bitcoin will be able to make the huge change needed to switch the entire financial around. In fact, i believe that 90% of investments in the stock market in the future will be done with Bitcoin and the rest with other currencies, including fiat.

How much will it take for that to happen? That will be a really nice question.

Bitcoin has not achieved its aim. That's true. All that's happening is, to a large extent, just speculation. I believe in the project actually, and I'm expecting it to get adopted into the mainstream financial sector of global economy.

I am maybe planning on starting my own project. One of the things I am thinking on is developing a truly smart currency of sorts that adapts to all changing conditions via algorithms. I also would love to do away with halving events since I think they shock the ecosystem far too much. I was think about using half life to make block reward decreases more gradual in nature but being limited to 8 decimal places is a nuisance. I am sure none of these are really new idea. What do you guys think? Ultimately, any project is useless without their community so what do you guys want as far as new features or characteristics?

All that is happening now with crypto currency is normal. As a result, it will become a new financial system, and it will bring profitable profits, but in smaller volumes. The process of realizing and perceiving the crypto currency by the world only at the beginning of the journey. Now the speculators are more satisfied, but  in the end, the loyal followers of the idea will also be satisfied.

I think everybody is here to make more profit. I am one of those who believe that bitcoin is the future paradise, but if you think about it for the moment, when you convert digital currencies to USD, you can buy what you want.

Leave no FUD unchallenged
I'd say those who have been around long enough haven't lost the purpose, while those who were initially drawn in by speculation will, given sufficient time, hopefully learn the purpose.

I'm gleefully reminded of the first time I saw this somewhat notorious meme and it resonated so clearly with my own goals.  Not to sell for more fiat IOUs, but to accumulate for complete and total freedom, immense future purchasing power and also to provide a safety net for family and friends when "traditional finance" inevitably implodes.

Bitcoin Casino Est. 2013
I am here with the sole intention and purpose of trying to collect as many bitcoin as I can. I work a 9-5 daily job but I think you will agree with me that this is some form of slavery.

Charles Bukowski says:

"I wake up in 6 a clock in the morning, hurry up to get ready to work, take the train 2 hours until I reach to my work, work like a pig for 8 consecutive hours to make someone else rich and I should be grateful for this opportunity?"

No one else can say a more correct statement for our debt ridden capitalism which is making people suffer, the majority of them. I am hopeful that after a few years of consistent work and collecting of bitcoin when many people will want to fight tyranny with bitcoin, the price will be high enough to change my life.

That is indeed Bitcoin's purpose, but you're free to use it the way you want. If people want to use it to make profits, than they're still participating in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Some people of that group might realize that Bitcoin is more than only a way to make profit (which is also not guaranteed) and participate in the community. You can't force people to use Bitcoin the way it was intended for, but you can explain them the benefits and make the system more accessible by creating good software.

The Operating System for DAOs
I would love to see a truly functional currency, I could care less about the profits. I already have been using BTC since the very first day of which I purchased it and will continue to use BTC until it has no economical value. It is my aim that this could be my whole lifetime but I will settle for the next 50 years Wink.

you're right. Now the purpose of bitcoin is speculation, so much different from its early days. it's been caused by the people it attracted after the recent price growth, so they see immediate profit behind crypto

So what would you like to see? A good investment or a truly functional currency?
