^^^The 5970's are more energy efficient as well as faster when it comes to mining than the 6990.The 6990's are also ridiculously expensive vs. the current price of the 5970.

I just bought 2 of them.

I usually heat my home addition with a 2000W space heater.  This year, I plan on using both of these bad boys to heat the space instead.  In essence, it's free electricy since I would have had to pay to run the space heater. In the end, the money I make from BitCoin mining in 5 months will pay for these cards, so even if they are worthless after that, I'm still good and can use them to game.   I think it's a good idea and I hope you do too.

Donations always appreciated (though I've never gotten any): 1CRfw8JjgpgX4m5LcstGcgWqYZt6vGRe4G

I've been thinking about donig the same thing. What will you do when the winter is over tho? I may have to get a portable air conditioner or window unit.

Thanks for the info..I was thinking that the card should overclock easily (without a voltage bump) especially if it is a mild OC for example 800 MHz.

Actually it's about right.  Although it's 2 5870s on one card, it was downclocked to 725MHz to meet the PCI Express Power spec.  It is fully unlockable, and can easily achieve 850MHz with a voltage bump to bring it in line with 2 5870s (but only using 1 PCI express slot).  My limited experience with BitCoin mining is that you can overclock the card more than you would for gaming.  My 5850s are rock solid at 950-1025 MHz for BitCoin mining, but they were never stable at these speeds for gaming.

The numbers for the HD5970s seem off herehttps://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison.  Are there any more recent benchmarks for the 5970?

Newegg has some more HD5970s in stock if anyone is interested:

I can't post this in the other forums since I'm still a Newb, but I though some of you fellow Newb's would be interested Wink
