grue,
This is something I do not know how to do, send those pings.
Is this something you do on the command line?
All I recognize from your post is "py"
is this python code?
Please explain.  I would like to be able to run tests on the websites of banks where I have accounts and other websites whose security is important to me.

it's a heartbleed demonstration script in python. since I forgot where I got it, and the header says it's public domain, I'll post it here.
Code:
#!/usr/bin/env python2

both are not vulnerable.

Code:

Connecting...
Sending Client Hello...
Waiting for Server Hello...

Received alert:

Seeing as they use client-side javascript it shouldn't really matter.

The heartbleed bug allows you to read server data, not to input/alter data on the server.

I went to this site
https://lastpass.com/heartbleed/
to check on bitaddress.org and brainwallet org
these are the results:

Site:   www.bitaddress.org
Server software:   Apache/2
Was vulnerable:   Probably (known use OpenSSL, but might be using a safe version)
SSL Certificate:   Possibly Unsafe (created 7 months ago at Sep 8 00:00:00 2013 GMT)
Assessment:   It's not clear if it was vulnerable so wait for the company to say something publicly, if you used the same password on any other sites, update it now.

Site:   www.brainwallet.org
Server software:   Varnish
Was vulnerable:   Possibly (might use OpenSSL, but we can't tell)
SSL Certificate:   Possibly Unsafe (created 2 months ago at Feb 25 00:00:00 2014 GMT)
Assessment:   It's not clear if it was vulnerable so wait for the company to say something publicly, if you used the same password on any other sites, update it now.

I go offline to use sites like these of course, but some people might not.  What's the latest word on them?
