good thermal adhesive is very important
iam waiting my heatsinks 11mmx11mmx5mm

Do you have 2 fan or one?

Do you have side parts on? if you dont place them

11x11x5mm is good too!
I have use only 1 fan. the side part i have out all as original, i think it's important for airflow.

Feel free to find all computer/miner parts in Chinese stores, such as Aliexpress, Dealextreme and so on.  Wink I believe you'll find every staff you can imagine and even more.

miguportugal, why don't you order a heatsink with longer fins? Not 5, but 15-18 mm?

you are wright but i dont see in ebay and buy the other.
the contac area (chip-heatsink) is not enough for oc.
a lot of air flow dont makebig diference, the heatsink is cold but the sensor is at 55º
my fan with only with 7V to full power the diference is only 5º at 412mhz

You better try Arctic Silver Thermal adhesive before.

Finally, i have make it done!. right now the total temperature drop 2 to 3 degree.
but, it's not good enough, next i want to try Air & water cooler, air is drawn through water-moistened pads, anyone try before? Does the room humidity will cause machine down?

Rabinovitch, thanks for the infors. Yes, im using size 8.8mm x 8.8mm heatsink, and Arctic 3M8810 (double side cooling thermal paste stickers), the material will be arrive next week. I think you're right at A place, I will test it next week.

I will do report on that.

philipma1957, im doing real heatsink cool down, i dont want to cheat the sensor, hehehe. Im from malaysia, It's real important to keep the temperature to keep as low as possible. Even now i have 24 hour 9000 BTU aircon running, yet, the temperature moving around 60/65 - 65/70 MAX.
add a pull fan then lower the freq and hash at 900gh or 800 gh problem solved.

Aside from your heat issue what is your power cost?

Thermal conductivity of Arctic Silver glue (!) is about 10 times higher.

So your Arctic 3M8810s are 1) unefficient (comparing to thermal adhesive) and b) dangerous (what if heatsink will drop off and make short circuit somewhere?).

im planning direct stick on the board.

Board(A) + Sticker + heatsink

Does it work? or risk ?

p/s : after google, i found, Arctic 3M8810 it's about 0.6W/m-K thermal conductivity.

What about thermal conductivity of those stickers?

Well, you can place it to A plates to provide additional heat dissipation from the chips. Those big heatsinks from another side of the PCB are not enough (it's all about S5's design, bud!).

Be sure that you chose best and non-conductive thermal adhesive (I guess that Arctic Silver will be the best choice for you).

Also check the size of that A plates before applying thermal adhesive.

Speaking of B positions, you maybe can stick little heatsinks on these capacitors too, because they are really hot when S5 is running. But the above step should be enough...

Pay attention to the fins of those heatsinks, it should be oriented accordingly to airflow from the fans (yes, you better use 2 fans if you decide to stick the heatsinks).

p.s. speaking of philipma1957's pictures, you can just play the fool with temperature sensor sticking a heatsink there, but it shows a "weather on Mars" even without that. Just "something like a temperature, somehow related to actual working ambient right near the chips across it".

Hi all, im buying heat sink 8.8mm x 8.8mm x 5.0mm, but i dont know where to place on my S5, anyone can guide me the correct path? it's A or B on the photo below. Or other place.

Thanks.

I have a link give me a minute.

 well i found it!!

Yep that's it, the 8 pin chip slightly offset from the centre screw line.
