The Bible says a lot of things. If you believe everything then you can go crazy. In those days when he wrote the Bible people did not know much. For them, gold had the greatest value. Now have penned a more sophisticated fake.

Like, you know, people of nowadays would write "You will also bathe in the pools of bitcoins". And a half of this forum users would just strive to live the right way

One day we may discover that the streets of heaven are all paved in the heaviest metal of all, which is Uranium. Yes, it's going to be a hell of radioactivity in heaven.

The bible claims there are streets paved with gold in heaven

Why?

Gold is a soft/malleable metal... you wouldn't be able to drive anything heavy on gold roads

Angels can fly right?  Why do angels need roads at all?  Can't angels teleport or whatever?

Perhaps sapphire, or diamond, or unobtanium... but why gold?

Is it because the people who wrote the bible thought gold streets would be tempting to a desert dwelling tribe?

Its because we are not angels when we die we do not automatically become angels. THe road is paced with gold because there are also lansions of gold waiting for us when we die and we are in Heaven. It is also important to note that logic is not explained by religion and gaith. It needs no such limitations

Gold is not the asphalt that can be made as a floor of the road, gold is gold, and asphalt is asphalt, everything there is a place of use respectively, so not so easy to put items that are not in place, let alone to say gold in asphalt road in heaven

Gold bars are made from the soft malleable metal that you are describing but hardened because it is moxed with copper. THis gold bars weighs a lot and are valued a lot and can withstand some of the greatest pressures just see the 5 star hotel in dubai.

People have legs right? Canmt they just walk or run or whatever? Why do we need bikes orcars at all when walking can be less stressing to the environment

What if you die and walk in front of God and God ask you "How's the heaven.?".
No one can tell what happens after when you die mate. Different religions define heaven in different names but nothing is guaranteed.

So what will happen to the non-religious once they die? The myth about heaven is just another clever tactic by the major religions to increase the number of adherents. Such myths exists in all the major religions, both Semitic and Oriental.

Why not? Gold was valuable at that time and to have gold plated roads that would show the richness and also the abolition of need for materialistic things showing how invaluable they are and what would you have to drive there?

Yes but not everyone is an angel, if you were to die and go to heaven you woudn't be an angel therefore you need the road or ground...

Is it because you're looking at it from the wrong angle?

Come on, do not translate Bible literally and do not be so literal.  Every story in the Bible are written beautifully and so inspiring.  Not because you do mot believe in it you should say whatever you want.  We have different views, opinions, and beliefs that is why we have to respect each other.  It is true that it is written in the Bible it is prepared for the people who will have eternal life those who believe in God.

I do agree with you mate, there are so much nonsense in religion. Some of claims are old and proven to be wrong, and there are so much non logical things that only fool would believe. But i am not a religious person, therefor who am i to judge right. I try to lead with theory, if it helps people overcome some things, than it is good.

What is written in the Bible we often can't interpreted literally, but symbolically.
So, gold can be symbol for something else, like goodness or ''golden'' hearth.
It means that we can't enter Heaven and freely walk there if we don't have hearth of gold.
Any way, Heaven is spiritual place, not physical and we will not find any material thing there.

I think I heard of that eternal erection before. Can you just imagine going through eternity with your boner sticking out forever? Hahaha.

But you need to remember that these offers are applicable only if you get yourself martyred, while trying to exterminate the infidels. Otherwise, you may need to use Viagra in the heaven as well.

Ahahaha! Maybe daddy Allah would provide the money to buy Viagra, LOL.  Grin I mean, if the US Army provide Viagra for its soldiers, why can't the all powerful Allah not?

Or would he? Maybe he's sadistic enough that he'd allow the impotent to stare sadly at the beautiful virgins since they can't get it up. I mean, he have to be sadistic to require his followers to die in miserable ways like exploding from their world-famous vests.

Gold streets it rather is a contribution to beauty of this metal. To my mind, gold very beautiful material and he underlines beauty of Paradise. I think that other material would not do a road on skies better.

The Bible is a book that was invented by people and they could fantasize anything. If you think logically, in the heavens can not be attached to the road of gold or anything heavy, there are only clouds.

Because humans like gold and that God wants to give everything that a typical human desires especially to those that did well in their mortal lives. The bible speaks of various things that are beyond of what nature and life could offer. Some are even impossible to achieve but even the impossible can be possible when it comes to God. Roads are made of Gold for people to walk on, even houses are made of gold for people to live in. What i know is that the Golden City isnt made for angels, but specifically for humans.

Minor pet-peeve... You don't "KNOW" shit about "the Golden City" because you have never been there... you have never spoken with anyone who has been there... you only guess/speculate/believe that a Golden City exists... you don't KNOW it for certain... you have zero evidence of any Golden City (The bible does not even mention a "Golden City" or golden houses... it merely mentions a single street paved with gold in one sentence)

When people don't actually read their bible... they just make up bullshit and spread it around claiming it to be true (pro-tip: 99% of "christians" have not read the bible)

While the bible talk about gold, the Quran talks about women.

Quote
Believing men are rewarded by being wed to virgins with "full grown", "swelling" or "pears-shaped" breasts. Conversly, women will be provided with only one man, and they "will be satisfied with him". Orthodox Muslim theologians such as al-Ghazali (died 1111 CE) and al-Ash'ari (died 935 CE) have all discussed the sensual pleasures found in Paradise, relating hadith that describe Paradise as a slave market where there will be "no buy and sale, but... If any man will wish to have sexual intercourse with a woman, he will do at once." Al Suyuti (died 1505), who, echoing a hasan hadith from Ibn Majah, wrote that the perpetual virgins will all "have appetizing vaginas", and that the "penis of the Elected never softens. The erection is eternal".

So what does this mean? It seems to me that the Christians are more concerned about money, and the Muslims are more concerned about sex.
I do not know about what is said in the Bible, but about what the Qur'an says about the angels in heaven do not have to always sex, why we are promised about angels or women I think because when we live in this world, women is the temptation Also the most powerful trials for men, just looking at other women who are not mahram it is already in forbidden, touching other women are also forbidden in Islam, adultery is one big sin, we must keep ourselves from the sins that result from women, We are promised angels or women in heaven as a result of the test we live in the world and live the command of Allah SWT.
So this is not about sex, but there is a deeper meaning to be studied.

Satan is also made of precious materials, in our silly old book. it seems the Lord tends to make the greatest of his creations with the finest of substance.

but what do you care? just a bunch of bullshit mumbo jumbo, right? Silly old Christians.

I never understand why, because someone doesnt agree with something, they have to shit on it. I wont elaborate, but Christians look at atheists with a similar head scratching gaze. Just be. If a person's existence doesnt infringe upon yours, simply move on. The OP tried to raise a valid critique, but the responses seems to simply decry monotheism, or drop a pile on Christianity. You may be mad at the practitioners, but dont be mad at the message. Although many of us fuck it up, ours is a religion of peace and understanding. Fuck history. It is a record of humans acting under free will, not the Divine intent.

But to stay on topic, besides the esoteric and symbolic intent of paving the afterlife with the precious materials, I think this was written in particular to show the amount of attention that the Lord put into the construction of the afterlife, or that the things he puts his foot into tend to be made out of the most ballin'est shit available. My Lord is a mightly Lord, and he obviously likes choice shit Wink Dont be mad at the swag, bro.

The bible is a poorly written sci-fi franchise all we are to them are paying fanboys of their fairytale novel that has no evidence that even one event has occurred example the noah's. How can a tiny boat fit millions of animals when in this current day/era and technology the latest and advance big boats can only fit 4000 plus people. So how the hell that those big animals fit in a tiny wodden boat. ? I dont know what to believe anymore when i found out that the man on cross is not actually jesu christ but actually caesar borgia that is a son of a gambler who kills people. Surely the who benefits from these, are all organize religions.

I remember the paving to be some sort of transparent gold, which would have been an unusual choice. When I first read Revelations, the first thing that came to my mind was an alien mothership. I mean, the foundation is multicolored gems glowing, the walls are octagonal and the gates are each a single piece of pearl! XD

As for that final one, Judea was hardly a rich province, no wonder they flocked to a lot of messianic figures at the time like John the Baptist.
