Hi again folks,
Thanks for the continued entries - good job.
Ok going to do my best at making suggestions for everyone's work, but I'm sure you guys would hate as much as me if this were to devolve in to a 'what does mumbly think of my logo' thread. I'd kill myself first as a general courtesy.
Can I suggest that we politely nudge the guys in the announce thread (without spamming) to check out these designs and get some real community feedback happening?
Also, what I would like to do is try to separate our subjective opinion from the practical problems that this logo must solve for us. I don't want to stand in the way of logo exploration so let's not do this every time, but some tests I'd like to propose that we agree our logo should address (feel free to suggest more and when we get a solid list we're happy with we'll ask LuckyTiger to add to the first post, not as rules but as goals).
Before I talk about the tests below, let's not start posting these here yet, just a topic for discussion, LT has set up a clean page where it's only concepts so far, let's decide if we need a separate logo test thread before throwing those images around.
Here are the tests I propose:
Standout test - substitute the logo with one from the homepage of poloniex.com - how does it differentiate itself from the other coins, how much attention does it grab (without being florescent green).
size text - how does it look as a favicon.ico - sanity check that small size works
reddit sub page heading - I don't think we need to mock a heading up from scratch, but we should take a moment to consider this - how does it look in context for a given example - I'm hoping that this will also inform us on placing/spacing rules for the logo
Quick shoutout to swraka - nice move giving us a little info on your design and an explanation for where you're coming from, it makes it so much easier to understand your point of view with a supporting description.
Ok, again, all of my feedback is mine alone, and is as valid as any other community member who posts here, please don't take this as a suggestion from the people who will make the final decision.
anonymousxx1503 - nice looking logo man, have you played around with making the two horizontal bars thicker? I like the texture detail - if we had to reduce to a vector version, how close/accurate to this do you think we could get? (do we drop the texture at a certain size?)
Trivelius - good work, I personally like that you're considering shapes beyond the round coin shape. I shared this existing logo with keccak last night and he seemed to like it (again not a direction, just trying to feed ideas)
http://heavyco.de/. For your second logo, I find it a bit confusing, but hat's off to you sir for thinking well well outside of the box, that's an interesting direction.
Not a rule, but maybe we do one concept per post? it seems easier to give each design a fair chance that way (let's not post a million concepts in a row)
crazy58 - interesting shape, I will say that there's something that doesn't sit with me about the hard edges on the green outer but soft edges on the black box and "H" - have you played with using hard/angler edges on them?
cryptopins - nice, simple, have you played around with adding more detailed vector shapes at a larger size? could make it feel more textured when it's this size and we could flick out to a version like this at smaller sizes.
mymenace - clean man, I'll give you that. me personally, I'm not super excited about the colour - have you played with other colours or maybe a combination of two? Other other comment is - does the binary around the edges mean something and should it?
crazy58 again - I think this one would benefit from a supporting description about where you are coming from, it's quite abstract (which is not at all bad) would you like to add some info about how you approached it? also, the second image you posted looks like it's slipped up on the page fyi.
swraka - again, thank you, great idea adding the desc, makes it much easier to see how you've approached it. I wish I could try to offer something, but it's a solid shape man, I'm not 100% on board with it personally (let me sit with it), it's again an interesting direction, be cool to find out what the crowd thinks.
xploreredfusion - wow - to be honest, I think it's very busy mate - what is your thinking behind it?
Dear god, can it not just be me talking in here? let's try to get some broader feedback happening!
Cheers,
M
