If you order now, chances are that once you will get it, it won't be profitable anymore. That's the consensus of most people in this forum I think. They have just begun shipping like 4 or 5 per week.

Looks like I can order the low end device from BFL (5Ghash/s) your saying it will take a while to get it any timeframe?

Yes, asics are specially made chips that can only calculate SHA-256 (bitcoins). If you had one right now, it would be a money printing machine. But if you order one now at BFL you won't get it for a long time. There are options of buying asic chips and doing it yourself, which is why I finally made an account here. (long time lurker)
Look into it. At this point I would not recommend buying gpus for btc mining anyway.
Protip: If you have the btc lying around, look for the next auction by friedcat from asicminer. Seems like a good deal to me. He is selling some of his first generation blades and ships instantly.

No I do not have the GPU's lying around.

You think it would be better to invest in Asics? am I correct in assuming that this is some specialized hardware for mining (google gave me lost of running shoes Tongue)

If you have those gpus lying around, go right ahead. Otherwise you might want to look into Asics, as the difficulty is about to rise substantially. You could also mine Litecoin with those gpus though. Just look into it some more before investing.

I thought GPU  was the way to go when mining bitcoins.

I have this MB a CPU and RAM for it and 2 PSU 450w and 500w.
So I was hoping that I could potentially put a large number of GPU's on there without having to invest to much in a life support system.

Hello people the title says it all I want to build a bitcoin mining rig with this MB http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5GD2_Premium/

There are many posts giving conflicting information about the the PCI/PCI-e slots present on that MB some say I need x16 others say I don't.

1: If the later is true could I potentially use 6 gpu's in this rig?
2: how would I go about choosing the right gpu's for the job?
