We met one of the executives of Flattr at the Bitcoin session in OVC11 a few months ago.

There were some discussions about it, but in the end it came down to a legal issue. The guys who founded Flattr are also the founders of The Pirate Bay, and everyone knows what legal shit TPB had to go thru.

They dont wanna get involved in anything that would even get them negative legal attention, at least not until a precedent is set.

PS if flattr accepts Bitcoins that would be awesome

Flattr sucks fees out of each payment made, and maintenance fees are drawn from the balance held with Flattr each month, I believe.

Why not just post a bitcoin address so the recipient gets every bit of money (pun intentional) that is sent?

I think they are talking about a service that allows you to charge your account with bitcoins and then use  it to make payments in Eur/USD. I don't know if there is something like that... Maybe OKPay?

Isn't that precisely what bit-pay does?

Bit-pay only operate in the US currently as far as I am aware - ie anyone accepting payments has to have an office in the US and accept dollars.

Hi Juergen,

Right now we're only allowing one currency on our site, so bitcoins as a currency will not be an option for a while.

If you can recommend us any market where people could use their bitcoins to send Euros to Flattr we'd be happy to have a look at it as a payment option.

Cheers
- Marie
