I like my NVidia rigs, but right now and for probably the next year at least AMD is going to beat them hands down for most mining usage.
Nvidia excells on complex calculations (which is why they are dominant in projects like Folding@home and Seti@home) but for relatively simple stuff like cryptocoin calculations AMD can match or better NVidia at a much lower price point most of the time.

Nvidia can argue with or better AMD on a hash/watt basis even in AMD-centric coins like ETH and ZEC (RX 470/480 vs GTX 1070 for example is a tossup on ETH mining on a hash/watt basis) but right now AMD has cards in the "sweet spot" mainstream market segment that NVidia is just barely STARTING to move down into on the current generation of technology for each.

it's alive!    Grin Cheesy

corsair rm1000x
h97 anniversary
intel g140
4gb ram
250gb HD
2x sapphire 480 8gb OC version

about 1030,00 $

when 490 will be out, this will get two more cards

Mining with Claymore about 200 sols/s on each card, now I must find good settings for OC

If your plan is to expand over time, you might want to get a PSU that can power 6 GPU's up front (little more expensive, but it will save you from having to buy another one later on).

Yes, go with just one card at first to test the waters. If all is good , you can jump onto buying the other 2 cards too !! All the best.

I get the most variety of min-able coins with my GTX 1070 rig vs my RX 480 atm.  AMD excels with ETH and Zcash but It doenst look like they can sustain previous profitability over the long term (but who knows).  I think its smart to have one of each. Which is why I have 2 rigs, one GTX 1070s and the other RX 480s.  Just my 2 cents.

Honestly, for mining, I wouldn't invest in nVidia, never ever, unless the price diff is like 10$ with an equal AMD card. Don't get me wrong, I love me some good nVidia power, but for the price, it's not worth purchasing nVidia for mining. Also, typically, nVidia don't get first hand access to GPU mining. Heck, Claymore hasn't even done anything for nVidia for ZEC and the party's over anyway.

Especially in current times, zec is going down the drain and ETH's difficulty will grow again once switching back.

@OP: just keep in mind that before you ROI 1400$, it will take you a lot of time, so be sure this is money you can afford to loose. If not, I'd suggest not getting the whole 1400$ in mining equipment. Buy some BTC with that, some say it'll reach the 1K...hey, it's as good an advice as any.

For instance, with 3x RX470 8GB, you'll hash ETH at roughly 80Mh/s, ZEC at 450H/s. You will not have immense earnings.

Don't buy RX480s, go for sapphire RX470 nitro+ 8Gb. They're cheaper and run almost as well.

thanks
for Nvidia, which manufactures is better for mining? MSI, Gigabyte...?

I think you should buy RX 470s 4g instead of 480s . They are cheaper, and more power efficient. Price difference just don't worth extra performance you will get with Rx 480. PLEASE NOT THAT THIS IS CASE IN MY COUNTRY YOU SHOULD CHECK FOR YOURS ! If you want to save few more bucks go for g1820 instead of g1840

it's funny, in Croatia difference betwen g1820 and g1840 is less than 2$

And SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX470 8GB is 300.5$ vs. 480 from first post is 325$

i would suggest you try with one gpu first.

work out whatever gaps you have in your knowledge of mining before dropping your savings on something you know little about.

Hello I'm newbie in mining so please be gentle

I have ~1400$ savings which I want to invest into building mining rig. I haven't mined anything before so I will be very thankful for your advices
In my country cost of electric over day is ~0.07$, over night ~0.04$

Hardware:
Homemade case
I already have HD and RAM (2x2gb)

ASRock H81 Pro BTC R2.0, s1150 (surprisingly available in Croatia) = 77$
Intel Celeron G1840 2.8GHz = 37$
3x  SAPPHIRE AMD Radeon RX 480 NITRO+ GDDR5 8GB/256bit, 1306MHz/2000MHz  = 975$
Zalman 1000W ZM1000-GVM, ATX 2.3, active PFC, 6×PCIe, 4×SATA, 20+4-pin  = 162$

Roughly about 1250 $ - I will also need riser cables and rest can be used for beer  Tongue

For mining I will be using NiceHash Miner.

Any comments, suggestions?

Thank you all in advance
