The bitcoin core client usually tells you if the transaction is over the size limit and asks you to confirm it with the additional fee shown.

Or did you manually set fees to some amount and turned out too high for the transaction?
I'm curious, because I don't want to accidentally send too high fee either.

I set the fee too high myself Sad

Fees end up getting collected by the entity that mined the block that included your transaction. Generally, with a cooperative and helpful pool mining blocks, if you can prove you sent the funds by mistake by approaching the pool support and signing with your private key they will return your misdirected fee. However I doubt that any pool will consider the amount you sent large enough to go to the effort. Other people have mistakenly sent tens of bitcoins by mistake as a fee which is obviously rather substantial.

You posted this thread twice (presumably by accident, due to them being posted at nearly the same time); you should lets the mods know so that they can remove one of them.

My response from your other thread:
No, any coins sent as a transaction fee are destroyed and added to the mining reward of the block containing their transaction. At least it was only 0.03BTC, it's not trivial but it's far less than some of the mistakes that have been made previously. It's best to let your client handle fees automatically in order to prevent mistakes such as this, though you should always double-check transactions before you send them.
