always buy 6 gpu at least you can maximimize your density and income with a single rig, running only 4 when you can run 6 is losing potential profit, for the mobo it's better to wait for the new asrock pro btc h110 that cna handle 13 gpu, so you build only one rig and expand for the future

Ok,can't run on windows,it only see's 7 GPUs at most...what OS see's 13 GPUs??

And how much is this wonderboard??
Good question. I believe Linux can handle any number as long as there are enough PCI-E lanes. In the ASRock demo they had a 13 card rig, but only 8 were running on Windows 10. Given the price of they're other mining boards, it should be ~$150.

Wow I'm glad you told me that Windows can't see my 8 GPUs!

I've seen only a few 8 GPU rigs work,so that is why I stated 7 being the max,it is what most folks can get working..... Kudos to you!!!!  Wink

Thanks buddy. Ah GTX 1060 doesn't seem that bad considering it's only 100w (edit: 60w? in full load??? :OOO).
We'll see how goes

I can't seem to find the RX470 nor RX480 anywhere, So I'll go for GTX 1060 6GB. They run on very low power, are quiet and cool, and rig with 2 of these would cost me around 900$.
Just one question, since these cards can't SLI, do I need SLI to mine with both of them? Or they mine seperately?
As this combo is very cheap imo, I might start off with 3 cards too. With 2, I'd only have to pay 15$ a month of electricity which is a bomb

SLI or Crossfire is not used for mining. The $190 PNY GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Graphics Cards can do 23.5mh ETH and 268 SOL/s ZEC each @ ~60W per card.

I'd buy 6, but it's too much money. It's my first rig, if all goes good and as planned I will install more GPUs in it, no problems Smiley
I just wanna purchase this and see how goes...
Of course, I was reading online that I should flash bios for max performance per gpu, but dunno if I will use linux, I love windows

probably $200 but having 13 gpu is worth it, the asrock team is working on a soluzion to see all the 13 gpu under windows, just wait, proper special drivers will be released to fix that issue, still you can run two rig in one very convenient for me, the problem would be the psu, need to find 2kw psu for this

How about this guys?

MOBO: ASROCK H81 Pro BTC
GPU: MSI RX 470 Gaming X 8GB GDDR5 [X2]
CPU: Intel Celeron G1820 2.7GHz Dual-Core
SSD: Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 4GB DDR3 1600MHz
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 1000W 80 Plus Gold

These all cost me around 1150$. I've read on cryptocompare that one RX 470 mines @ ~24MH/s. So two of these, calculated at cryptocompare, should mine 1.17 Ethereum per month, which isn't that bad, while costing me around 30$ to be online 24/7 full month. I'd buy some more 470s as I earn money from Ethereum as the MOBO supports up to 6 GPUs. I might need a new PSU by then too.

Far as I know,470 stock is less than 20,so be sure you know how flash GPU bios & use Linux as OS  Wink

BTW,I started a year ago with 380s,I wanted more but no longer feasible due to price & power consumption...so I'd go with 580s & be ready for new gen Vega coming in June/July.

Pretty sure 400 series will be discontinued....if not already...........

I try to get the highest GPU,you can find them on sale alot & only cost $20-50 more, well worth it  Wink

The 300 series uses double the watts the 400 & 500 series use, well almost....

I run all cards stock on Win 7 Ultimate 64bit,380 4gig=20mhs (300 watts each),390 8gig=30mhs (almost 400 watts),480 8gig=25mhs (120 watts or so),580 8gig=25mhs (120 watts or so)..keep at 60-65c with fan speed & underclocking of core to around 1150 (if needed).

Dual core CPU & 4gig RAM is all you need, just get a mobo that handles the amount of cards you want.As for HDD I use 40gigers,they are free for me sooo  Grin

If you keep wallets on em go for 120gig or larger  Wink

Most mobos have 2 16x PCIE slots & several 1x slots, that's where the risers come in handy  Wink

Need risers?? These are great!!!

- How much GPUs should I buy? I'm thinking of going 4.

Why not go 6? And your GPU choice is also bad. r9 380 is way outdated now. ROI time is also too shit. Try to find rx 4xx or rx5xx, any of those would do the trick.

Compare it yourself:

https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/sapphire/radeon-r9-380-ethereum-mining/
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/sapphire/radeon-rx-470-ethereum-mining/
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/sapphire/radeon-rx-480-ethereum-mining/

Rest of the equipment is easy to decide. You need to find GPU's first.

I think you need to post this in the altcoin section.  Wink
This section is BTC only, and CPU/GPU is way dead in that regard.

Gear I wish to purchase is:

GPU: MSI R9 380 4GB GDDR5 @ ~190$
 - How much GPUs should I buy? I'm thinking of going 4.

CPU: Intel Pentium G3240 @ ~60$
 - I suppose I don't need to blow cash on CPU as I'm only going to be using it to run the miner rig.

RAM: Kingston FuryX Red 2x4GB DDR3 @ already owned
HDD: 250 GB WD Blue @ already owned
 - I have a dead PC laying around, so I suppose I could save some extra cash if I used these components I already own. I can also sell my old MOBO from this PC as it only supports 1 GPU, as well as a power supply to get ~40-50$ from that back, too.

PSU: EVGA G3 850W @ ~160$
 - Should this be enough to run 4 of the GPUs I intent to buy? If not, I could buy a EVGA G3 1000W @ ~220$ as well.

MOBO: I have no clue which motherboard to buy, but I assume that the one which would support 4 way crossfire would be around 100$-150$ range. If you could help me choose that'd be awesome.

So buying 4 of these cards and everything else (calculated with the 1000W PSU just in case) would cost me ~1150$
Bitmain Antminer S9 would cost me ~1450$ including their PSU and shipping costs.

So the PC mining rig would cost me 300$ less, and calculating my profits here https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator ,
with 4 of these cards I'd be earning 0.056 ETH daily. 0.08$ per kW/h is the electricity cost here. So the rig would mine just a little bit less $ in ETH daily than the Antminer S9 would mine $ in BTC, costing me 300$ less as a huge bonus.

What do you guys think? I need professional opinion before I blow up all my savings lol
