go to the device manager and check for any yellow mark on the any of the audio drivers if there is any then reintall the drivers or try to update that particular one and restart i hope it will work again and to confirm that there is a problem in your COMPUTER check your mic before with any other computer is its not working in it either then throw it off and get a new one else do like i said.
Who were you trying to talk to with said mic?
Reinstalled my audio drivers, restarted PC and it worked then
Try plugging the mic in another pc if you can, or give it to a friend to check it for you.
I think there is a problem with your PC link. Try forcing mic in the hole 
What is your mic? Maybe your mic has the problem?
