Do you think 7970 would be available in Thailand soon?

I do not know. But if its really decent and the numbers work I could just fly to Hong Kong or Singapore and pick some up.

Can you fly to Taiwan?

Singapore parts price is expensive.

thinking about 6870s now, any good? i can get them at a fair price.

Christ, Goat, just get them cards. This thread has been going back and forth for like two weeks.

The hd6870 is a VLIW5 card, therefore we can trivially score it against:

hd 5830: 800 MHz * 1120 SP = 896,000
hd 5850: 725 MHz * 1440 SP = 1,044,000
hd 6770: 850 MHz * 800 SP = 680,000
hd 6850: 775 MHz * 960 SP = 744,000
hd 6870: 900 MHz * 1120 SP= 1,008,000

As can be seen, a stock 6870 is about 12% faster than a stock 5830 and about 3,5% weaker than a stock 5850 card.
It is also 48% faster than a stock 6770 and 35% faster than a 6850 card.

Can you get those?

We bought a bunch of them(around 25) back in August, where all the good cards had crazy high prices and/or unavailable in the market. They have regularly a discount and/or Mail-in-rebate and even the stock price is cheap. Good performance, you get easily 205 MHash with those. I was able to attain 220 MHash, but tune them down a little (don't want to break my stuff). Not one broke since their purchase. Temperature is good and electricity consumption is ok. For the price I paid, I'm pretty satisfied. And if I have to break a card, I prefer a 100$ one than a 300$ card.

It's more a safe deal than the best deal, but if you need to play safe... Wink

The 6000 series isn't really that bad compared to the 5000 series for mining -- if you know what you're doing.  My reference board XFX 6970 rig (4 cards) is getting 1580Mhash @ 683 watts.  This is right on par with my 5870 rigs in terms of Mhash per watt.  The key is significant undervolting, and the 6970s handle undervolting very well.  My cards are running at 900/340Mhz (BIOS flashed) and at 1.050 volts.  Running Ubuntu 32 bit and CGMiner.

This doesn't stop the cards from costing $300+ though.  ...although they'll likely hold their value a bit better than the 5870s.

Take a look at this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/my-initial-radeon-hd-7970-mining-benchmarks-56630.
If OP there is right, perhaps you should wait a little bit. The HD 7970 launches in four days. 7950 and the 78xx series launches in February.

I would NOT take a glance at the 6950/70 cards. I'm quite disappointed with their hashing speed for all the power draw and heat.
Those cards were supposed to be built in 32nm process but due to manufacturing issues they were redesigned a little bit and released in 40 nm.

I know I'm waiting until February.
...or perhaps I'll just wait "4 to 6 weeks" for the BFL FPGA to come out :>

Hi all I live in Thailand and my option on cards and the prices are not great. If I want to buy new and get a warranty I have to buy here.

I also can buy used 5970s in the USA and have them shipped here. This could happen.

Anyway this is what I can buy locally.

6870 x2 for $466   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131446

6990 for $726

6970 1GB ram  $428

6950 2GB  $366

6850  $228

Anything 5XXX is being sold at the new price from 3 years ago so that's a no go.  5970 new is more than a 6990!

Any random ideas will help me think this out, Thanks:)
