You can download the latest version of multibit classic from here. How you transfer the Bitcoins to the new wallet depends on which type of backups you made,

https://multibit.org/releases/multibit-classic/multibit-classic-0.5.19/

If you have backed up files with a .key extension (that contain exported private keys) you can open multibit, click tools, then click import private keys, then browse to your backed up key file.

If you have backed up multibit wallet files you can open multibit, click file, then click open wallet, then browse to your backed up wallet file.

edit

As alani123 says you could alternatively choose to install the electrum wallet and import your keys into that. The maximum fee the latest version of multibit allows is sometimes not enough for fast confirmations if the network's overloaded with unconfirmed transactions. Electrum lets you choose any fee you want, it has no maximum allowed. If you choose electrum download it from the official website here because there are some fake electrum wallet downloads available that will steal your coins.

If you export your multibit wallet's private key to a file without a password, then open that file in notepad you should see something like the text in the quote below. The bit in blue is the private key. You can import that into electrum using these instructions.

Quote
# KEEP YOUR PRIVATE KEYS SAFE !
# Anyone who can read this file can spend your bitcoin.
#
# Format:
#   [[]]
#
#   The Base58 encoded private keys are the same format as
#   produced by the Satoshi client/ sipa dumpprivkey utility.
#
#   Key createdAt is in UTC format as specified by ISO 8601
#   e.g: 2011-12-31T16:42:00Z . The century, 'T' and 'Z' are mandatory

That's a very old version with some bugs in. Before upgrading you should back up your wallet files and private keys.

Have you made any backups of your multibit wallet, or private keys yet? Don't risk doing anything until you make those backups and test they aren't corrupted. You can backup your private keys by clicking tools, then the dropdown menu item entitled "export private keys".

Your multibit wallet files are in a folder that windows hides by default.

You can back up your multibit wallet files by clicking the windows start button, then copying and pasting the line of text below into the search box that opens, then pressing your "enter" key. That should open a folder containing another folder called Multibit. Backup that whole Multibit folder.

This is what the windows search box should look like after pasting %appdata% into it.

yes back when i originally bought it i backed it up and saved it on a flash drive. the computer that the multibit classic is on right now is an old macbook that i never use, how would i go about creating a new wallet on my windows computer and transferring the remaining .50 btc in the new wallet?
You could use a new version of multibit or electrum and import your private keys. Don't get Bitcoin core if all you want to do is tra fer some bitcoins. As you might already know ow core takes hours to download the whole blockchain.

The wallet you are using does not support fees big enough to have your transaction picked up by miners in today's market. See if your transaction remains unconfirmed and perhaps you will have to import your private keys to a more modern wallet.

Can you confirm you have multibit classic installed, not multibit HD. Could you also tell us what version of multibit you have installed? If you answer those questions people will find it easier to help you.

Don't panic, it doesn't sound like you lost your coins, there's probably a way to get control of them back.

yes multibit classic and the version is 0.5.15

So I had bitcoins on my computer in my multibit wallet where it had been sitting for the past couple years. I created a new wallet on my phone and wanted to transfer it to my phone. I sent about $10 about a week ago and it went through instantly. I then sent another small amount a few days ago before i sent over the whole thing. The small amount went through instantly with small fees (.10) i then sent over the rest which was about .50btc with the same fee amount which i know now was a mistake being such a small fee amount. It never went through and after two days of the same status ( unconfirmed and only seen by 1 peer with a white square in the status bar) i saw somewhere online that said i should reset my blockchain and transactions if i had a transaction that had been pending for more than 24 hrs and had not gone through yet. So i reset the blockchain and transactions and now i have a 0.00 balance and the pending transaction for the .50btc is no longer there  Huh  Cry  . Can someone please help me on what i need to do?   I checked my balance on bitref and it shows the .50btc is still in my wallet... can someone please help me get it back in my wallet??
