For me, I don't consider this an incentive it's just prop to encourage or attract the community to answer the survey.

Hm, both are synonymous to me since incentive is defined as "something that incites or has a tendency to incite to determination or action" as well. In this case, it's the chance to win 500 bucks.

I hope the distribution of prizes changes; it would be great if it's not just one person who wins. It would be ideal if the winners could be divided into five, so that more people would be happy to win. Right?

Agreed!

Only one person wins the award. It's too late to change the draw rules again (many people have answered the survey with the current expectations). The monetary reward is indeed there, because otherwise no one would respond to our survey (originally tested with the smaller reward).

You could try to solicit opinions from participants but I'm not sure if you have the time for that lol which would be understandable.

PS: good luck to everyone who participated! ✌

We would like to thank everyone for your participation.

The raffle will close at 18:00 (GMT), after which you are still welcome to answer the survey, but you will not be added to the draw list.

AB de Royse777 (Escrow) will soon make a new post about the next steps regarding the draw.

It is nice to see that the gambling industry is getting recognition globally coupled with the fact that the education sector is conducting a survey which invariably means that a research is going on about the Crypto online gambling as the topic of the thread says. I will commend your efforts because I know what it takes to get to this point of research when it ha to do with students involved in such a research. Giving you an honest answer or reply is of utmost importance to your research as that would help you get proper data as it relates to the objectives of your research. I will be of help to take part in your survey.

This research is extremely strategic to develop and widen the gambling sector with more good results of popularity, I so much rely that the outcome will be of greater impact to the gambling.

Though the attached reward it may look small but it's very motivating as it will help and enhance getting good results because people believe of receiving of rewards for sacrifice of their time spend on any thing they do.

Am not underestimating your capacity of giving up to $500 as reward to winner on this, but I consider it more of a project research work which shouldn't involve money to earn since it's not like a normal contest everyone will take his time in applying to be eligible for win, I may be wrong though, but we have to offer things that will go far beyond the reasonable doubts of other people concerned, and if it's as exactly how being said, then I give applaud to their efforts and contributions towards this research.

I'm not sure I understand your point, are you perhaps against incentivizing research participation? I think it has its pros and cons which makes it a very debatable topic.

In any case, I doubt OP would reach this many submissions at the same time frame if there was no incentive. No incentive does not necessarily mean no one will be filling out lazy ass answers either though you could say, with-incentive participation is more susceptible to abuse like multi-accounting. For starters, op may wanna reconsider entries from low ranks 🤔 -- including on other forums as well e.g. altcoinstalks

For me, I don't consider this an incentive it's just prop to encourage or attract the community to answer the survey. It's true that without this raffle or prize, likely no one would participate or respond to the survey. I hope the distribution of prizes changes; it would be great if it's not just one person who wins. It would be ideal if the winners could be divided into five, so that more people would be happy to win. Right?

Just completed the survey which I thought was interesting and I must say that the raffle amount is pretty generous for just a 4 minute survey. This whole decentralised crypto stuff keeps becoming a bigger and bigger deal with time.

Funny thing is that most crypto gambling sites are actually centralised these days thanks to government regulations while only a few are 100% decentralised.

Only 10 days until the draw (April 4th). Chances of winning the $500 prize are quite high (right now there are less than 100 responses).
I hope you will consider one of the recommendations regarding changing the prize. And hopefully the raffle draw won't be rescheduled or extended again unless the prizes increase once more. If the prize increases again, perhaps we should stick to the original schedule for the draw and then create another one for the additional prize. Anyway, still thankful for the contest.

We are happy to announce that the raffle reward has been raised to $500 in BTC!

This is made possible by our new partnership with Dapp Casino (https://dappcasino.io/). Dapp Casino is a specialized platform focusing on the evaluation and ranking of decentralized gambling establishments. The bigger prize will hopefully boost survey participation. This partnership does not impact the content or integrity of this research project.

Congrats on finding a sponsor, op!

BTW, what do you think of splitting the prize pool so more people could win? I think this can be attractive as well since folks will have more chances to win a spot. TBH, even 100 bucks is a pretty sweet deal to me.

You could divide the prize pool equally based on the number of winning spots you want or have a tiered winners where prizes descends e.g. 1st place, 2nd place, etc.
Very nice to see you have got a sponsor. I'm sure when the prize was under $50 you didn't get as much attention as you will now. I'm with potato chips on giving more a chance to win, you might get even more participants if they feel they have a shot at winning something. Good luck!!!

Hello.

I am happy to see this tool is going to be used.

For transparency, it is very important that you share the participants list with the target block before it gets mined, so everyone knows it is a fair raffle.

I will fill to the form and try to participate too!

Cheers!

What a nice timing lol, and maybe it'll increase more in value in the coming days 😏 I hope you get more people in, and good luck to everyone joining!

I'm guessing there is a minimum number of target surveys, May I ask how far are we from this? or perhaps you can tell if the team is halfway there?

We are halfway to the minimum number of responses we would be happy with ourselves. If we reach the minimum response thresh hold by mid-March, we will do the draw in mid-March. If not, then we will postpone it by 1.5 weeks.

UPDATE:

The raffle draw will happen on 4th of April, 2024. Responses that come after 4th of April 18:00 (GMT) will not be added to the draw. We have extended the survey by a few days due to the low response rate and the increase in prize money.

Upon checking the escrow Bitcoin address, there is 0.00122738 BTC which is almost $70 now. Just wow! The Bitcoin price has almost doubled in a very short time. My question is, Is $60 the only estimated prize or does it include the entire Bitcoin in the Bitcoin escrow address including the transaction fee?
Exactly as Potato Chips said, the winner will receive 0.00122738 BTC minus any transaction fees after the draw.
(Everything on the Bitcoin escrow address - the transaction fees = Final Award).

Ahahaha at this point, it might be a good idea to just add the prize in satoshi or "1 mbtc+".

Perhaps after the next surge Cheesy

and thanks! I must've missed the date. I'd be a good idea to add it on the first post of the raffle thread as well.
Adding it.

It looks like the OP of that giveaway is incomplete. You didn't include the draw date for the winner. It's already been two weeks since you posted it.

OP said the will do the draw in March, middle or at the end of that month.

I believe because the survey is for educational purposes, OP should share it in the Development And Technical Discussion forum.

I would recommend going through the social media channels of the cryptocurrency gambling websites. Perhaps work together with said casinos? I am sure they would love the free PR.

Decentralized gambling is not really a big thing yet. Nor is there any real decentralized gambling yet, as far as I know. As long as there is a centralized control, whether for freezing funds, denying wins, etc. there will only be casinos decentralized in name only.

Kind of like the Binance Blockchain. Sure, it is technically decentralized but the decentralization is so low (there are too few nodes/validators) that it is technically centralized and under the control of Binance and its partners.

And that is exactly how I see the current fad of Web3 gambling.

I believe because the survey is for educational purposes, OP should share it in the Development And Technical Discussion forum. Probably there OP would know the actual difference between real decentralized services built on top'of the blockchain like Satosh Dice and I forgot the name the other one, for gambling in sports.

That was also a real on-chain gambling service using the Bitcoin blockchain.

Sadly, none of the gambling websites/casinos we contacted allowed us to share our survey on their media channels (such as Discord servers, etc.). If there are some people here who have their own communities where we could distribute this survey, please make a post or send us a message. We would be happy to work together with you.

You can change the language like this:

I don't think that you need some changes for the questions that you've given after all you said that they can skip on what they think that they can't answer right which means that you don't have to change a thing or two about, the best way to move forward would be to increase the amount of questions rather than reducing them right? That's more appropriate in my opinion plus you're going to make you data more precise since you've got more questions right? Or you can't do it because there's a problem if you add more questions?

There’s 2 things at play here. A smaller one is that the shorter the survey is, the more likely people are to finish it. That’s just how it is, and we need volume right now. But more importantly for the questions we’re trying to answer this amount is sufficient. Our goal isn’t to find out everything there is about decentralised gambling. The leaner and more focused we are, the better.

Join us in shaping the future of decentralized gambling!

We really respect your insights, as the more responses we get, the more qualitative our analysis will be.
If you wish to help us out, please engage with this post (ask questions or give suggestions), to keep this post more relevant.

OP, for true and actual decentralized/on-chain gambling, I suggest doing your research on SatoshiDice. It was one of the truest forms of "Bitcoin on-chain" gambling services that was built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. There was also a service for sports-betting that was truly on-chain. That will be a good starting point for your research as well.

Real on-chain betting will change how people interact and gamble in the internet, and their behavior on how they value and use Bitcoin. It will be an actual understanding of censorship-resistance and how regulations over decentralized systems will be impractical and ineffective.

We’ve noticed some privacy concerns in the comments, and we want to address them. Just to reassure you, our Qualtrics setup won’t gather any data from you. We think our questions are pretty fair, but hey, we might be missing something. So, if you could give us some feedback on which questions feel too personal or suggest ways to make them more comfortable for you to answer, we’d really appreciate it. Now that you have cleared that I don't think that you need other changes as crypto gamblers are focus in asking about Privacy and from that KYC is really the question.

Actually the Pot money is just a bonus since you guys sounds legit and really just wanted to have a research with valid answers  so I guess we can help you out.

This survey is anonymous, we don't look at individual responses but only look at the bigger picture how different datapoints influence each other. It is also possible to skip some of the questions.
Since this is anonymous then count me in

The first time I read this I obviously think of my privacy that's why I denied partaking but now that you clarify this then will be joining and give my honest review.

Hoping that after gathering what you need to attain here, you will first broadcast here what will comes out of the business.

Will be giving my survey later today.

These data may help you, see: Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity

In case you need some translators, see: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--5406507

But there's a good chance some local boards out there have an overwhelming amount of english speakers too so you may wanna do an interest check post to gauge if a particular board needs it so you don't overspend.

It should be emphasized, in case anyone is confused, that you will win the $40 if you win the lottery. You have to answer in survey and then you enter the lottery, so this is not accurate:

To answer the survey and win the $40 BTC reward, visit our survey at: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/win-500-in-btc-answer-short-survey-closed-5483224

I understand that it is partly marketing and a way to encourage people to complete the survey but it would be more accurate to say "To answer the survey and have a chance to win $40..." or something similar.

Sorry for the clickbait title. Changed the comment as you advised.

By the way, I have a few questions:
Is the survey available in multiple languages to reach a broader audience?
Currently only in English, what other languages are widely used in this forum?

Can you elaborate on how the anonymized data will be used and analyzed in the research?
The anonymized data will be used in an initial cluster analysis (used for grouping) after which we will run some OLS regressions in R to find certain connections and trends.

Has the study received ethical approval from the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga?
Yes, the study has been approved by the university.

I understand that it is partly marketing and a way to encourage people to complete the survey but it would be more accurate to say "To answer the survey and have a chance to win $40..." or something similar.

Marketting? You are loosing the trust of people here DAMN!

This survey is anonymous, we don't look at individual responses but only look at the bigger picture how different datapoints influence each other. It is also possible to skip some of the questions.
I'm not an expert in decentralized gambling, but I'm a fan and interested in learning more. Perhaps you could offer some introductory resources or reading materials?

You can consider sharing the survey on other communities or platforms like Reddit forums (r/CryptoGambling) and social media groups like LinkedIn groups, Twitter, Facebook, and Discord, focused on blockchain and gambling. Another forum would be Altcointalks. The wider the reach, the more representative the data will be.

By the way, I have a few questions:
Is the survey available in multiple languages to reach a broader audience?
Can you elaborate on how the anonymized data will be used and analyzed in the research?
Has the study received ethical approval from the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga?

Who are you, a groupe of students?? Huh

You know, this is about the first former research group or interest we are recording out of a university on gambling and even more, decentralized gambling, it says much and positive much about the gambling space.

We should applaud it and encourage even more by giving our wealth of experiences to the cause.

While it is nice they do research, they do want a lot of personal information from you. Some people will not care as one review will get 40$ but thought I also mention it here. If not for all the personal information ( and I get why you need it), I would probably also participate in it.

What are some other places besides Bitcointalk forum where we should share the survey?

General gambling communities has also a good amount of crypto players, perhaps you could find some peeps who have dabbled in "decentralized gambling" platform.

For starters, you could look into subreddits like r/onlinegambling or r/gambling. There are also stanalone websites like casino.guru (they have a forum) and casinomeister. You could probably find more when you google! But before anything else, try to confirm first if such post is inline with each communities' rules.

Most probably this a university funded research so technically they are already have an advanced degree to have this kind of research for the university since this category is kinda new for educational systems.

It’s amaze me that they got curious on the application of smart contracts on gambling for this kind of research studies. This only means that decentralized gambling is now gaining attention to the outside world of crypto. Joining their survey will be beneficial even for us.

@OP I just hope that you will mention Bitcointalk on your reference for your data findings.

This is probably just for the promotion of those decentralized platforms, they seriously need marketing and whatever they learn something from this survey means they have some basis for their actions. I didn't go into the questions.

Has decentralized gambling really gained attention?  I'm not sure of that. There are only a few decentralized betting platforms and none ever I see people suggest playing on it. The situation is the same with DEX. There may be people suggesting to use of decentralized exchanges but only a few go there to trade actually. Maybe this survey is for this purpose.

To All Gambling Enthusiasts and Blockchain Believers!
We are conducting a study at the the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, focusing on the novel application of smart contracts in decentralized gambling.
This emerging area lacks extensive research, and our study aims to bridge this gap.

Study Background
To date, the academic community has primarily delved into smart contracts in sectors such as healthcare and logistics, with minimal focus on decentralized gambling (Ante, 2021). Our study is designed to methodically explore this uncharted territory, providing a more comprehensive understanding of decentralized gambling.
