or delete every except the wallet.dat and then reload the bitcoin-qt client

Make sure to keep a backup at all times.

If you have a backup of your wallet.dat file, then yes I would delete everything related to Bitcoin then start fresh. I had a problem with my bitcoin client about a month ago, and after I reinstalled bitcoin, I had to go back to that folder and put a copy of my backed up wallet.dat file in there (obviously delete the default in there first though.).

Maybe just open "My computer" and in the address bar type "%appdata%". I run windows XP and this works for me. Then you should be able to find your bitcoin folder.

The directory would be your computer name.

Go to Start open your Personal Folder.

Top right of the start menu.

once there you can find. appdate/roaming/bitcoin

You might have to go in to Folder Options to show hidden folders.

You're on windows?

if so.

You'll find the files in C: Users - Username - appdate - roaming - bitcoin

You should find the files needed there.

If there is a problem with your wallet. Backup the wallet.dat file somewhere safe.

Delete everything in that folder. Replace the wallet.dat file and restart bitcoin-qt client. It will download the entire blockchain again.

Next time you shut down make sure the bitcoin-qt client is shut down completely before rebooting or shutting down the PC.

i cant open my wallet, i keep getting error loading blkindex.dat.  ive read that i need to type in %appdata% but i dont get anything.  I dont know where to find the "blk"files and pretty much stuck.  my wallet is in a folder in my documents.  i did backup my  wallet on a flashdrive but have no idea what to do with it.  ive been messing around with this for 3 days now and cant figure it out.  It all started with a purchase and my block chain was about 35000 behind, i tried to let it run all night and when i work up and tried to open wallet to see if it finished "bam" nothing!
any help would be greatly appreciated...i am a newb!
