I just want to thank Busoni publicly for helping me with this issue, Poloniex was already one of my favorite exchanges but now it gets my #1 spot, it's good to know customer service still exists in this crazy world even for people like me who make stupid mistakes  Grin

Can't you just:
1) Close bitcoin and premine
2) Backup you bitcoin wallet.dat file or reaname it to btcwallet.dat
3) Copy your premine wallet.dat into your bitcoin %APPDATA% directory
4) start your bitcoin-qt wallet
5) once the blockchain is synced, your btc balance should be there

?

This worked! Thanks very much.

I exported the private key by calling dumpprivkey , the went to a BTC client and did importprivkey . The BTC client said something like "import failed". Any ideas? Will Electrum work better than bitcoind for this?

You can't import a privkey unless the wallet is unlocked.
What was the format of the privkey?  Don't post it here for obivous reasons.  If you are unsure of the format just report what is the first digit and length of the key.

Also rule #1 which applies to any technical support situation.  The error message was something like .... is useless.  Copy and paste the exact error mesage.

Ask him to send you the premine privkey and use electrum.

It could be a bit tricky tho

Value will be measured in sats
How can Bitcoin and Preminecoin share two exact wallet addresses?

Because PMC uses the same algorithm as bitcoin to derived address from the private key.

Am I pretty much screwed on getting my money back?

Just export that private key from your PMC wallet, import it in your BTC wallet, and you will get your bitcoin back.

+1

try this first

I assume poloniex has the private key, I don't have a wallet on my HD, the tech support says he tried to export the private key into a BTC wallet and it wouldn't accept it?

I was referred by customer service at Poloniex here, I withdrew .61 BTC from McxNOW to my premine wallet on Poloniex and I realized my mistake, however instead of it giving me a "Not a valid wallet address" it actually went through!

1H183KGdVMNzWw9j3yhVfRUy4ZAXnw44M1 Is the PmC wallet I sent Bitcoin to. The TX id for the transaction is d653430e58533c5e823368a90069f88c7a9d791bde906f19135ef02351a0a15f

The customer service rep at Poloniex tried to export the PMC private key to a Bitcoin wallet address but it wouldn't take so he sent me here.

How can Bitcoin and Preminecoin share two exact wallet addresses?! Am I pretty much screwed on getting my money back? Does it appear to even belong to anyone? I'm confused how this could happen and it's an awful feeling since it is half a week's salary for me.
