*nix fanboyism aside, the bitcoin hardware guide doesn't seem to show an appreciable difference in speed for Windows vs *nix, so I would suggest if you're a "noob" stick to windows.

I've been using Linux for about 10 years now, and I'd be willing to help, but rate will really depend on what the problems are and how long they take to solve.

I just recently set up my own Ubuntu 11.04 system too, and I'm pretty experienced with unix systems. I'd be willing to help you out for 2-3 BTC (I'd rather decide the exact amount after I finish the work, since the amount of work I'd have to do could vary widely). I can probably set up and install any drivers you need, install any programs etc. and deal with all the bugs and errors that they throw at you.

complete noob running Ubuntu 11.04 w/ 2x5770

I run into problems with all guides I've found.  So if you're a trusted member of this forum and want to earn a quick couple of BTC, contact me and maybe you can set me up via SSH in return for 2 BTC.

I'm at kind of a high frustration level with this...

Thanks.
