Now I know.

Why do I have to wait now? Are the chances of transaction going through 100% or can it get stuck forever or destroyed?

The chances of getting through are not 100 percent. Actually it is closer to 0 percent. However the bitcoin cannot be destroyed. It will either go through or else blockchain will stop broadcasting it and it will return to your wallet

Much thanks for taking time to reply!

I sent a transaction more than 5 hours ago and there are no confirmations so far. I look at the block chain and I see this message "this transaction has a very small output and is nonstandard". I used my blockchain wallet.

I posted this on reddit and got enlightened about new parameters around the size of 'change' address. I get it now but:

1. What do I do now that the transaction is stuck??

Wait.

You might have to wait a few days.

2. What can I do to avoid this in the future?

Use a wallet that pays a proper fee and that generates proper transactions.  This was created from the blockchain.info website?  That's surprising, I thought they were handling transactions properly.  Did you use "Custom Transaction" or something?

I used the blockchain.info iOS app

Ah.  Apple removed the blockchain.info app from the App store.  I don't think blockchain.info is supporting that app any longer, so it hasn't been updated with the latest changes to the protocol.  I'd suggest not using that app any longer.
