It sounds like you may have selected your Bitcoin Cash wallet on your console.  Your ledger can store many types of different coins and you should be able to see litecoin, bitcoin, bitcoin cash, and more by selecting a different view.

As far as I know BCC/BCH has its own wallet on ledger nano s by installing it, and have its own wallet with BTC too, so if you have btc on your ledger before the last fork or even after the fork with the new version of ledger nano s, there is a switch button on the upper right side where you can use weither BCC/BCH or BTC you want to use or whatsoever.

So since my btc balance would be the same as my bitcoin cash how would I go about selling the bitcoin if it shows zero balance on my ledger
Honestly every thing i don't understand what are you talking about but base in what i understand what you said here in quoted you wanted to sell your bitcoin cash and if you sold your bitcoin or bitcoin cash it can be turn into zero balance?
It should be turn into balance if you send all of your bitcoin or bitcoin cash to other wallet unless if you are receiving bitcoin or bitcoin cash to other wallet your wallet balance would be increase. .

It probably shows the BCH balance you've got but do remember this that it is 1:1 ratio for Bitcoin : Bitcoin cash. And how many bitcoin cash are showing in your ledger nano s wallet? If you see there is x amount that will be also your bitcoin balance.

What does that mean?

It means that he got the split coin that happened last August and he got it automatically upon checking his ledger nano s wallet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm going to assume when you said BCC you meant bitcoincash(BCH).

Don't worry your BTC didn't magically turn into BitcoinCash. If you had bitcoins at the day of the fork, then your bitcoin balance should be the same as your bitcoincash balance. Bitcoincash is sort of a duplicate or copy of bitcoin that's why you're seeing the same balance. You pretty much have 2 separate wallets, one for BTC one for BCC/BCH.
