These aren't the newer Z170 motherboards, they can support 6 GPUs easily, the OP probably ended up hooking something incorrectly and damaging the motherboard.

Once, I was able to get BIOS to see 5 GPUs, but not Ubuntu.  I recently read something about changing some memory addressing settings, so I may try it again when I have the time.

But yeah, stuck with 4 max for now.

Turning on Iommu still only allows for a max of 4 cards for me. motherboard wont post with more than 4.

For some strange reason, some AM3+ Gigabyte boards will lose connectivity to USB 3.0 and its NIC if enough PCI-e slots are used.  I've found that the only way to restore them is to enable IOMMU in BIOS.  It shouldn't work, but it does for me with the 5 machines I own.

6 GPUs should work no problem. You probably damaged the board somewhere if there was "some burning". You might of accidently connected the USB riser backwards in the 16x slot and burnt some lanes. The onboard LAN shouldn't burn like that.

These are very great motherboards, got one from the litecoin days. It works with a $5 CPU even.

This is a known problem with these boards.

Try turning on IOMMU.

I can only get 4 cards to work too. idk what the problem is, either in linux or win 10.

Are you using windows? Use linux if you want more than 4 GPUs. As an experiment remove one of the GPUs running on the x16 slot. Does the x1 slot card work when only running 4 GPU?

Note: I had the exact same problem utilizing a Gigabyte Z77X-D3H. I did at some point get the five cards to be identified; but, the network card failed to operate properly and I was unable to mine.

Yes im using windows 10 ! I  bought a gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3 and plugged the usb risers (1x to 16x adapter)
And Everything worked perfect

When i put it in pci-e adapter in pci-ex 1x slot it did not work and it burned my onboard network lan and my usb 3.0
It's already the 3rd card I try to use

And this time the network stopped working because I put the riser on the pci-ex 16x

This is the Riser Model

Im try to put only two GPU´s ! First in 16x and second in 16x, and not work

what im need to do Huh

Check google and the mining forum section here.
Not sure what to suggest.
I never used a setup like that.

First thing i thought of though was some weird hardware limitation type of problem.
And then troubleshoot it..
Pull all the other stuff out and put in that one and test on and on.
That is part of building your own.. so get good at it Wink

Look in the bios too and see what it says.. any related settings maybe ?

Not sure if you also have a GPU connected to that first PCIEX1 slot; but, there is a note in the manual stating:

"Due to a hardware limitation, the PCIEX1_1 slot can only accommodate a shorter PCI Express x1
expansion card. For a longer expansion card, use other expansion slots."

If so try removing from the first slot and see if the problem slot starts working. Both are on the same PCI Express bus along with your onboard LAN. I've seen similar problems.

im have 4 gpu cards in the 16x slots

I tried for the 5th board in the First pci-e 1x slot. I put a 1x to 16x adapter but it did not work !!

In addition, the network card and usb 3.0 stopped working
