I had an account at bitcointalk for several years (scotjam). I had become a somewhat infrequent user over the past few years, but was still receiving the odd PM and logging in now and then.

Then at some point in the last few months my account seems to have gotten banned, presumably from inactivity because I was barely using it. The user still exists on the site but I'm not able to log in and it asks me to email an address to get it unlocked.

I've sent a quick email to that address a couple of days ago, but no reply yet.

Honestly i don't know if it's possible to have ones account locked or banned because of a long time inactivities, but as your case maybe, if you're truly the right owner to the account, there are ways you could show and proof this, as already suggested above from previous comments, follow the steps and then if you still have access to the email used in registration for the account, it will be more better or if you have once signed a message on it before to prove your ownership.

Unfortunately not, that was just me trying again. When you use the correct credentials it lets you log in but because it is locked you can't do anything else. I did discover there was an email address to write to included in the error message when I tried to log in and so I emailed that address
In regards to this, I just checked "bpip" right now to confirm the status your account @ Scotjam and trust me, I couldn't find any sign of ban as shown below (i.e I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong), and neither did I even find any allegation also against you on the "Plagiarism Report thread that I was thinking maybe you might have been reported for posting a plagiarized content and got a temporal ban, that might be the reason for your inability to access this forum, but never did I also find any allegation linking to your previous account too, which on that note, I will support you do what "Pandu Geddon" said by making a complaint on Meta board.

You should make an appeal on Meta to open your banned account. because we also don't know the reason your account was banned.
and I think it won't be difficult if you still have everything you need to make it easier for you to get access to your account.
if that's true you, hopefully, you you get your account back. there are several businesses that you have run with your account in the past. you have to make sure to the community that it's really you.

I did do this (sent it to Cyrus on: January 29, 2018, 01:36:51 PM) including signed message and link to where I had posted the address that was used to sign the message (post was from the locked account before it was locked). Never received a reply. My account is unfortunately still locked.

I saw your main account woke up couple of hours after this post, was that you?

If so, lock this thread and congrats!

Otherwise, see: Recovering hacked/lost accounts
I would also suggest starting a topic in Meta board so it can be tagged as hacked in the mean time while you recover your account.

I believe that the admin has helped him have access to his account,as I just checked it and it was active today too. From my own perspective, I don't think that an account of a newbie would be hacked because it has no reputation and with only two activities, so why will anyone want to hack such account, instead of just creating a new account. Or is the person after the year that the account was created ?

Lemme get this straight because is kinda confusing and I'd like to know, if your account is locked and you're looking for a way to unlock it, who's account or what means can you use to communicate with the person in charge to unlock it?
Is it that you're going to open another account to lay your complain? If opening a new account is the only option, isn't it like an offence to have an alt? Because I don't think someone can just create an account without being tempted to use it, like you can't abandon the new account if your complain is being taken care of.
I just want to know...

you will need to have the account registered email , and the wallet, since you will use this to email the administrator or whoever will be the right support for that, and need to sign a message to prove that you are the real owner, if you fail to sign a message and will only email them, I'm afraid it will not work, and that's the end of you account,
I hope this will able to help you about your account.

You need to send the admins proof that the account is indeed yours, by sending over a signed message[1] of the address associated with your locked account.

Hi!

Is it possible to unlock my old account? I still know my login details, have access to the email address I used to set it up, and probably even still have access to sign messages using the private keys corresponding to bitcoin addresses I used with the account in question to receive payments for things etc.

I do want to get back involved because during my hiatus I've created something that I think will be useful to the community, but it is likely to be *more* useful if people know it is coming from the same account that I did all my other trustworthy transactions from over the years if at all possible. If not I will have to release it as a newbie (which would no doubt be a little more hair-raising for everyone, especially if I can't even be sure myself why my account has been banned...).

Maybe the answer is that the email address that I sent the message to will get back to me and I just need to wait for some period of time before that happens (which is fine of course) but I would just like some reassurance that this will be looked at eventually. Otherwise I may as well start the gradual process of establishing this second account... I'm not keen to invest time in that though if it's just a matter of a short time for me to regain access to my original account.

Many thanks for reading - I know you're all busy on the forums here!
