Sgt Spike I like your thinking a lot. In other words, it sort of holds their hand and shows them how that 1 free bitcoin could be spent instead of just giving it to them for free. More of education on how bitcoin works.
Actually, what if a bitcoin related company could sponsor this and have his or her own landing page on how to spend it. In some ways, it would come full circle as the person might just spend it back to the sponsors website and we hopefully have gained a new bitcoin fan.

How about making tee-shirts that say:
"I got my free bitcoin from www.freebitcoinsite.com/1fj94"
Where that web address is unique, leads to a page that hands out a free bitcoin, and the shirt has a confirmation code on the tag or someplace inconspicuous so that no one else could claim it?
Not only would it advertise bitcoins, but as handouts, they would be great, because it would let the person know that they can get started in the currency for free.
Said web address should also offer up ideas of how to spend the free bitcoin and how to buy more of them.

If you are a college student I might be convinced to send you 100 flyers or so to post around campus.
I was thinking the other day maybe if we set up a bitcoin fund to buy t-shirts and pay people in bitcoins to wear those t-shirts around their college / town etc., that maybe that is the sort of exposure we need- I was thinking we could target noobies to wear them since they are seeking their first bitcoins and trying to become part of the bitcoin community. Just throwing this out there.
