I used to just click the reply button, but one day I read all the options and tried to click and see what each one does, so these can help you out and save time.

1. Previous topic / Next topic: To Quickly navigate to the next or previous thread/topic by clicking on it.
2. Notify: Get an email notification when someone responds to that thread. Some threads are so important/interesting that we like to be notified of any new information/reply that is posted.
3. Print: I mainly use this feature to save the discussion or to read it when I am not connected to the internet on my phone while laying down.

3. Forum Stats: You will see many interesting statistics about the forum at the bottom of the home page, it will become more interesting after clicking on the "More Stats" hyperlink.

I love this one but I don't know if this is related but to user stats, they are not showing. It will be cool to know each user statistics with going through external scrappers like the ninjastic and loyceV websites.

4. Hide Avatars and Signature: If you don’t know how to hide other members’ Avatars or Signatures, or if you’ve installed a third-party extension specifically for this purpose, you can do so in settings, There are a lot of different settings available, some of which may be new to you if you’re not reading the setting page carefully.

This is cool but I don't want to deactivate that, not because I don't want to see all signature but I just think signature under each replies add beauty to the forum, I love to see banners of companies that are been advertise here.

Nice discovery and a perfect search, the more you're here on this forum the more you continue to make new discovery about the forum if you keep exploring it, learning is said to be a gradual and continuous process, if you're being active and interested in learning and growth, then this place might just be the perfect ground for you, it's a large community without boarders, serving members with various opportunities when they are being just to themselves, you still have more to discover over time in additions to these, keep up the good works.

Thanks for iterating me with these features that I would normally just overlook without knowing their functions. With this info, I can be more confident coming online and navigating the settings and other features without the fear of having my account block for clicking on features or doing what is inappropriate.
I am still to understand what the child boards mean however and have been keeping an eye out for any topics created to explain it well. Any help?

Some of these features are just sounding new to me but I think I have been able to grasp it now that I have heard and learned about them. Most times one needs to take out time in learning more about the platform where they belong as it would help them navigate there peacefully.  I think it would be nice playing with some features here again for mastery and familiarisation.

I wonder if anyone use the "jump to" button which is also a feature here in Bitcointalk forum and it's also visible at the very bottom left side of the forum. Well, I already know the list in OP and it would be better if other features would also be discussed kr included in the list because it will be useful for newbies too when they see this thread. I noticed that many newbies didn't even sue the forum features even the ones that you can see right away like the search button.

5. Watchlist: If you don’t want to see a lot of Unwanted Threads in the "Show new replies to your posts." section, Which are listed there when we respond to threads and other users write a reply on that thread so we can know what are more replies from other members. you can edit that watchlist for a clean view.

Do you learned something new?
Thanks
I recently discovered the watch list button and it has been very helpful. In the past I've always wondered how some users get to always be on the first page of every thread. And through the watch list button you get easily notified of a new topic via email and you can quickly respond to the topic and be on the first page. It is a pretty cool feature and I'm making the most out of it.

Just for the record, forum stats are kind of mixed the monthly summary haven't been updated since December 2017 while all the other information on the page seems to be up-to-date (not sure).

But on that page we can see some fascinating stats especially under the most online section, look at the random newbies with zero posts and always online, and I always wonder what data they are scrapping from bitcointalk and how the hell is possible to have 63 years online stats when the forum itself is just 14 years old.

This information is helpful because I am not conversant with some of these features but I find one more helpful. Which is the quick edit function.  I have seen other features OP listed but didn't pay attention to them because I don't have any need for them. For me, there is no need to hide any board because you might learn something important from them. I see avatars and signatures are artistic works that add color to the forum so there is no need to hide them. I like seeing new avatar designs and they convey information about the product they are promoting. Currently, the forum stats make little meaning to me,  maybe they might become important to me in the future. Nevertheless, I think these options allow members to have a personalized experience in the forum.

Edit: I just used the quick edit option and I think this is one of the best optins this forum has. The good thing about it is that you can easily view the responses of other members as you edit your work. But it's shortcoming is that you will not have access to more function like the normal edit that has a scroll bar with diverse commands. But I have really learned something new.

It appears that you're mixing two different things together... By editing your "Watchlist", you're not limiting the threads that you've replied to from appearing on the "Show new replies to your posts" list!

Fortunately, I know all of these features and have known them from the beginning of my journey in the forum. I have always been a very enthusiastic user of the forum, and I was always amazed by the details and features that I could find in it. When I was new in the forum, I used to surf the whole forum, every single section even those where I wasn't even allowed to post, just to see what people were posting and what was being discussed in each section, etc.

I have always been eager to learn more about the forum so there is basically no button or option that I didn't click at least once Grin. As they say, it's always important to know the surroundings where you live, and since we spend a lot of time on the forum, it's important for us to understand each and everything about it.

1. Quick Edit Button: Recently, I was reading my reply after posting it and while reading I found the button seems like this ............

2. Hide Button: This feature I discovered on first day of my registration on this forum, but on a recent ...............

4. Hide Avatars and Signature: If you don’t know how to hide other members’ Avatars or Signatures, or if you’ve installed ...............
OMG, the information you have shared is totally new to me, I totally was not aware of the quick edit button till now, I honestly never reread my post but maybe in rare cases, I only reread it in the preview. Thanks to you for bringing this useful information in front of us. I guess, this forum does have many wonders and surprises for us of which we knew nothing.

Because we do not wonder here and there and only use the features or things we knew about. That's so surprising to see that I am here for years and or I should say I am this year old to know about that quick edit button.

Well, another thing is we can not preview our posts in quick edit button, as there are only 2 options of save and cancel but it works for those who only have to correct some mistakes like spelling mistakes. This thread of yours is really helpful and I will try to keep it in mind for future need for newbies.

Some basic features of forum are written in Help page.

I noticed you mentioned some good points but you missed forum privacy page and IP address page. A first one is useful if you want to limit your IP retention time and a second one is helpful to detect suspicious log in with strange IP addresses.

You also missed "All" to show all posts in a thread.

Let's see how well I know the forum  Roll Eyes

  • Quick edit button:  Not familiar but just tried it now and love this feature, which is far much better than hitting the edit button Smiley
  • Hide Button: I have a few local boards hidden because of the language barrier, no offence to those from those boards.
  • Forum stats: Use to use this a few years back but today I have my go to boards/threads for the extra info
  • Hide Avatars and Signature: honestly wasn't even aware of this but on the marketing side of what different projects to to achieve with this, I think it would hurt their exposure  Roll Eyes
  • Watchlist: I have used this for boards I want to see of any new content but if am not mistaken threads you comment on automatically get to your watchlist .

I don't know if anyone uses this, but here it goes!

-snip-
I have seen it but never get to use it ,and seeing how it works I think am wired in such a way to first see first page before making a contribution to the topic to avoid going off topic.

I'm fully aware of these features being an SMF admin myself the SMF default features are newbie-friendly and serves all the function of the forum but what I highly recommend to all members is to check the SMF Users Help
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help

It is the compilation of everything you want to know about SMF features it will help you to get acquainted with SMF based forum

Yes, I did and thank you. Having a good understanding of how to navigate these features and use them well is also important so you do not set these customizable features, become uncomfortable with them and then do not know how to remove them. I shared a topic about being careful with messing around the default settings on the forum,
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.62809984

For some features, when adjusted they can make your forum experience uncomfortable if you are not used to them and then unable to remove it. It can also then discourage you from logging into your account in the forum. So, before you set anything, try to understand it first.

Well, there is one that I didn't know, with all the time I've been on the forum. The quick edit button. The same thing happened to me as libert19, and, in fact, I am taking advantage of the button to edit the post for the first time using it. The only thing I don't see much difference either, apart from being a bit faster.

I think "quick" stands for the fact that it doesnt open up a new tab! Cheesy
nothing earth-shattering... but might be useful in some cases when the browser is loaded up with a few tabs.

I used it few times when I was discovered about it first time.
I prefer clicking the last post page number, which is on threads which have more than 1 page.
like this :

Because the button you are talking about is very small to click precisely. this button let you to the last reply of the thread while, Clicking the last page number of which i am talking about, let's you to the last page of the thread, instead last reply.

I don't know if anyone uses this, but here it goes!

Basically, the button redirects you to the last page of the thread, which, for some, is not considered good practice because it skips the original post, and you end up reading only the last replies. I've been using this a lot especially to those threads whose last reply are from those interesting forum members(which is personal).

Most of the points you've mentioned and presented here were already familiar to me.

  • Quick edit button: Nothing new - unfortunately, I've had to use it several times. But for correcting minor things, it's certainly a great help!  Roll Eyes
  • Hide Button: I also find this button useful since there are some boards I'm really not interested in - especially for the local boards which I cannot understand.
  • Forum stats: The statistics were actually new to me; I guess I never scrolled that far on the board's main page to come across these statistics Cheesy
  • Hide Avatars and Signature: Familiar, but I don’t use it. I like a bit of variety with different avatars.
  • Watchlist: Very useful, especially in threads you visit regularly. "Show new replies to your posts." gets really cluttered when you post frequently.

I'm looking forward to other responses - especially of "old" members!

I want to share some forum features that have not been easily seen. Even users who have been here for a while may not know about them.

1. Quick Edit Button: Recently, I was reading my reply after posting it and while reading I found the button seems like this , I was seeing that button first time, I clicked and then understood that this is for quickly edit our reply, then I shared it with a local board member which is a newbie here, Then a reply popped up of @libert19 which is here for years and said "Lol, I have been here for years yet learned about it from your post  Cheesy", That's where I got the idea of sharing it on global board so other users also can save time.

2. Hide Button: This feature I discovered on first day of my registration on this forum, but on a recent thread by @blue Snow,
I have seen many people who have been here for many years also find out about it now. This button is available on the homepage to hide the boards that you do not want to view or read. It also hides the avatar that we see at the top of forum. However, it does not hide the avatar permanently after updating the avatar. reappears. Like this:

3. Forum Stats: You will see many interesting statistics about the forum at the bottom of the home page, it will become more interesting after clicking on the "More Stats" hyperlink.

Watchlist: If you don’t want to see a lot of Unwanted Threads in the "Show new replies to your posts." section, Which are listed there when we respond to threads and other users write a reply on that thread so we can know what are more replies from other members. you can edit that watchlist for a clean view.
