Yes, mainly spam protection I believe.
Although I don't like it, it makes sense. At least the waiting time probably prevents masive spamming - when someone gets blocked, it costs him some effort and time to create new account to spam again. Smiley

Welcome.  If you have any questions just ask.
I have a question: Why do you need to do this silly dancing around the site's restrictions and post random blabbering into "chatrooms" (that's what the newbie forum is) before you can join some meaningful discussion? I don't know who can possibly think that this is a good idea... if it's just a spam protection, then it's quite a sad one.

I came to the conclusion that that good question has not an answer. Cry

Maybe something Satoshi came up with?  This we should ask him should he resurface.

Sad or not, it is the reality that we live in today. Discussions do not take place in an open forum in which you are prescribed to personal, physical ridicule, therefore, there must be an establishment that creates a distinction between a troll, spammy mental child and a BTC advocate/apostle. As such, put in your time, your posts and enjoy your perspective of the BTC revolution as it happens for this and the next generation. You will be well rewarded.
