Newb too; I started GPU mining (please, hold in your guffaws) in December and gave that up in January when I estimated it would take approximately 1.9 years at that difficulty (we all know, it increases) to hit slush pool's payout. Ha!

Currently I am mining the altcoins through middlecoin.com with two small 'rigs' of two PC's both containing two R9 290 GPU's (Asus and Gigabyte).
