This is my setup:
they are kind of separated, but not very well i guess, and the fan is very close to the rig
bdw can i use 1x to 16x extensions for 16x pci port? lets say board has 16x pci and can i use the 1xto16x extension to extend it? or does it have to be 16x to 16x?

Wait, are your 3 GPUs crammed next to each other in a MB? Grab a milk crate, some PCIe risers, and a few dozen zip ties, and space those cards out! They NEED their airflow flowing into the fans.

two fans card won't get that hot, my 7970s run even cooler (67C 77C) with 50% fan speed.

I have 3x7950 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7542562&CatId=7387) and been running at 74-80C each and 80% of fan.
Which is better for the card? should i crank up the fan to 90%, 100%? to keep the cards cooler? or should i let the temp go to 80C-85C and keep the fan at 60%, 70%?
What would be your recommendations for the card temperature and the RPMs?
On the hot day(rig is in garage) it's 80C for all cards at 80% fan, should i crank up the fan? or it's ok to be at 80C?
I'm kind of looking answer to my specific case, but in the same way would be good to know which makes more sense in general.

80c isn't terrible, but if say 80-90% gets you into the 70s on temp, then go for it.
Do you NEED to run at 100%? What temp are you OK with?
Check the various temps vs fan speeds. ie 80C @ 70%; 75C @ 90%; 73C @ 100%
You may see that a 10% increase in fan speed only gets you 1 or 2 C cooler. Is that worth it?
Personally I run at 65% (blower/reference fans) and I do my best to adjust my cards to run at <75C.

You're worried about a $5 fan vs a $300 GPU? Crank that fan up there, and if it does fail in a couple years, it's cheap (and wicked easy) to replace. A GPU that fails after 3 years is a lil more expensive.
I say that if the noise is not a problem then crank up the fans to keep them cool. Why not? You only hear of card dying because they get too hot.
