It was a collision of two things that happened to me....

1. My overclocked GPU card blew and I was doing research on the Internet for a new GPU card. I watched some videos on YouTube on people using their GPUs to mine bitcoins and this piqued my interest.

2. Then my credit card details was used to buy thing on the internet that I did not buy and I started to look for a better method to buy things on the Internet.    Wink

The rest is history.....  Grin

I was participating in a PTC site when I stumble on ads that made me curious.  Searching about it lead me to this forum.  After some time of reading and understanding my new found interest, I left PTC and thrive here learning about trades of BTC.

I was looking for a way to earn extra money in late 2014 and 2014 and I also enjoyed gambling online at the time, I was browsing through the internet and found the Bitmain miners and cryptocurrency. A few more searches introduced me to this forum and also the concept of cryptocurrency as a whole. Started trading occasionally a few months into 2015, and I still trade crypto to this day. I also gamble occasionally with cryptocurrency, and PayPal’s policies continuously getting worse has only further cemented my belief in crypto.

Do you remember when you first became aware of cryptocurrencies, and what was it that got your attention?

If you don’t have a technical background, it was probably a story where the protagonist, an ordinary Joe, or Jane, did something unusual, contrasting against what the majority would do, and whatever they did, changes their lives. It’s either a tragedy, where the hapless person gains something of value and then loses it or a comedy, where their lives are changed forever.

Paypal closed my account for no reason, I wasn't using it to sell, just to buy some subscriptions and games. I wanted a form of payment that could not be taken away from me for an arbitrary reason, so I found bitcoin and I was hooked.

I only realize that it's a good investment when I started participating in the forum, people are very optimistic that time and I followed their advice.
People here were really optimistic that even small movement they easily concluding a new ath. Grin

Back in my early days, some people think I'm also a scammer when they knew that I'm into bitcoin as they've eaten of thinking that bitcoin is nothing but a ponzi scheme. Really, I have enough of their drama and just stop explaining it to them besides I don't care anymore, as long as I decently profit then I'm good.

I wasn't here early and have no idea on the technical aspects about bitcoin.
I just read people's feedback and prediction on bitcoin during my early stage, investing was not in my mind yet, I usually use bitcoin solely for gambling. I only realize that it's a good investment when I started participating in the forum, people are very optimistic that time and I followed their advice.

I would be very interested to know how many people came from MMM, which at one point was dominating Bitcoin buying volumes in certain countries, and stuck around if they had a penny left after it. I also wonder how many people bought BTC intending to throw it into MMM and then clued up before parting with it and became real Bitcoiners. There must be quite a few.
I think there could be quite a number of them here. Most of these MLMs use bitcoin as a payment option because probably it would be hard for authorities to follow up when they decided to exit.

My friend isn't much of a person who likes crypto even upto now but his interest in MLMs forced him to know about BTC including how to make transactions and the wallets(coinbase in particular)

So funny but it was a ponzi scheme that a friend had joined.
He was trying to convince me to join and told me that they were paid in bitcoins. I luckily never joined the ponzi scheme but i started searching more about bitcoin and then ended up in this forum.
From that day, my life changed as i soon discovered that bitcoins unique way of transactions would soon be useful to me

I had a friend who started mining and this opened up my curiosity of what that even meant and how he was getting paid for running computers. I couldn't wrap my mind around it at first but now I feel like there is so much to be excited about when I first learned about crypto to now

I read about it on an anarchistic forum in 2009. The person writing about it said it was going to transform the world and set people free. I'm not sure it actually had a monetary value at that point. I think I briefly perused the white paper and then forgot about it for several more years.

I can't remember anymore the first time I've been aware of crypto. What I can remember is I'm aware that it's more of bitcoin by that time and people addressing crypto as bitcoin before without those alts.

OP are you related with this person? --> https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/chain-reaction-5138950

He created a thread with the same link at the end.

One system for making payments worldwide without the need to exchange between each state.
Also, the possibility of payment without having to verify your identity.
Maybe it was the coincidence that made me explore cryptocurrencies, but above features that kept me going.
