Of course the recovery will not come very soon. We have just to wait a bit, at least hold our coins till spring and watch the situation on the market this time.
Recovery for now is already showing its head, but like you said, we have to wait for the full recovery when there is full assurance that the market is back. For now, even with the recovery or not, it is best to always hold position in the market and see the dips as opportunity to hold more. We do not know what the future holds, but the sure thing is that bitcoin has a great future.

HODL is the only thing you could do whenever bitcoin drops. Why would somebody would sell their bitcoin at a losing price? Because they don't have the heart to HODL their crypto assets in times of crisis because they're weak enough to do so. But those who HODL no matter how tough it can be, they are rewarded with a better profit as bitcoin rises back again.

I consider hodling is one of the best strategies to earn profits for long term. Many well-known investors in the stock market also used this kind of strategy and raked up a lot of profits. Hoding is already proven effective in cryptocurrency investment and many of the early bitcoin holders or users are now richer. When bitcoin price is falling, many bitcoin particularly the neophyte investors have the tendency to sell their bitcoin in panic and they have already forgot that bitcoin will recover soon.

I'd rather sell during ATH than waiting for another one to happen, i tend to take advantage of high and lows of the market so for me HODLING is nahhh..
i can easily enter the market again when everyone falls  Cheesy
Ah.. The traditional trading way. It's a great way for everything else but BTC. Consider you bought at $500 and sold at the then ATH of $1000, now after that price never went back to $500 you never got the chancr to buy back at $500. Maybe you bought later at $2000, but the person that bought at $500 and held, he made more profit than you as of now.

That is why I am so happy that many are already aware of the holding concept and that is the very reason that I want to post it here so that new people who have no any ideas of this advice will apply it on their trading.
I'm informing my friends and others that there's no harm in HODLING. They even have learned the word that way.
We all know that when we hold and sell on profit, it will be at the expense of other traders - and I don't want that it will be at the expense of the new small traders but at the expense of big sharks when they pump any coins.
We can't stop this and its inevitable when most of us have enough profit already, he/she will definitely going to take profit.

HODLing since 2012  Cool

Millionaire or bust !!!
Since you have been holding for such a long time then I suppose you are close to your goal, but while I have not been holding for so long I have the same attitude, bitcoin is either not going to make me any money or it is going to make me  millionaire there is no middle ground, that is why I'm a holder as well, and I'm not going to sell until bitcoin reaches my target price.

Since 2012? You should've been a millionnaire right now dude. Though probably you've been keeping low quantities of btc then. I started earning and buying btc 2016 and with btc's price then, i usually spend it on some fancy purchases. Had i known it would be like this this fast, i would've spent my salary instead.
There are so many people like this on this forum and they already understand the ideology behind holding. With experience, they already know that times like this only last for a while before the market recovers and it is even easier to hold now than back then when everything was still not that bright enough like now that we already see an ascertained future for btc.

This BTC dip will take more time to recover than we think, whales are using this to spread bad news and they will use this situation as always happen in situations like this. There are too much bad news for crypto serving to us this days. Credit card bans spam confuse people but they don't know they still can send wire transfer and use Debit card to buy coins..., exchange ban from some countries, regulating crypto world etc etc. All this are some of reasons why this happening today with BTC. We just need to be patient and over time situation will be better and different. Some coins will die meanwhile, that happen with thousands coins till now, some will grove stronger etc etc...
Well, no one expects recovery to always be pretty fast, but I will not be surprised if it does not. We may have some bad news now, but just wait a little bit as the news start changing now that the bulls are beginning to step in gradually, then we will see a bull rally which is normally usual.

The beginning of it is the one that was had with the US senate, and there is so much more to come. At the end, the patient dogs in this market always end up eating the fattest bone.

With respect to cryptocurrencies, we still have a long way to go and a huge room for more development. One thing I always tell newbies is that, if you are a long position older, never bother yourself about the value you see presently now in the market and if you a short term holder and you did not sell at the top, do not bother giving the sharks and whales the pleasure of taking your money away from you. I love dips like this, because the recovery is one thing I always look forward to after it happens.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and advice to newbies. It is really helpful and reinforces also my stand to hold the line and if got some spare money, buy bitcoins as much as I could.

Although I no longer buy bitcoin now and the last one was 2 years ago but I am considering of buying few satoshis at anytime when I will get my pay from client work.

I am also planning to buy more altcoins with 50% of my remaining bitcoin holding because the reds are really tempting to buy and I guess that is the smart thing to do right now.
It is good you have plans to buy but even if you cannot buy now, you can always wait for it. The market should obviously give more chances to get in for some time before we can even start seeing any rally. The most important thing is that whatever you have, you are still holding and then looking forward to the long term.

I have also been holding a lot for a while now and I will keep holding for as long as I feel like but obviously not now, because the value is still low. Grin

To involve and invest in bitcoin you need to have a clear mind and guts of steel, there are so many fuds and malicious things that make you want to out from bitcoin, but all of the people that already got experience know what is the best step to not get caught by the false news, I never doubt bitcoin will rise again, its only the matter of time, for the one that freak out and do panic sell then you need to learn more

Well, to be honest i feel little nervous, because when it falls, it falls really fast. And looking at the price right now hurts, specially like me who invested in mid Nov. But even in bad times, i didn't sell anything yet, i am holding tight, even though my 60% portfolio gone!
I think that is a good decision, just wait for the price to recover again even if you already lose that 60%. I am sure that if you wait patiently, you will gain profit in the future, and who knows? You can gain more than you expected. To all who holds bitcoin for a long time really takes time before they've got profited.

To me, I'm holding. And my plans are long term.
After some time it's not that difficult anymore to see big movements in the charts without being tempted to make a move.
Not when the charts go down, but not either when the charts go up. I think it's important as well not to sell at a high point out of a mood.
Selling activities should always be careully thought through and combined with a goal.

Is there even a target price? So far, I want to believe that bitcoin still have a very huge room to grow and no one can really know the extent it would get. However, for me, $1m would be a good target price. Grin Honestly, those who hold will never end up regretting it and those who see the present spot at dips as a good time to buy more will always have the best of it all even in short or long. HODL or end up not being rich, unless you are a trader and you know how to take advantage of every swing in the market.

I often say hodl and wait for the price high, but these words are not effective/encouraging for some users especially to newbies or weak investors that cant stand the dropping value hence they tend to panic sell and hoping to recover their capital before its too late. We cant coerce them to do as we say because its normal to worry when your expectation didn't happen. I always remember the saying "Good things come to those who wait" and indeed my persistence paid off for gaining in my investment for the few years I have been in crypto world.

I think it is slowly happening now as bitcoin price is going up gradualy Smiley
Really, good things come to those who wait! Wink

I just hope that everyone, especially the new comers and investors to continue to hold the line because everything will be fine.

No I'm not holding since 2012 that was the user Wilhelm, I'm in the same boat as you I did not started holding until 2016, I bought some bitcoin at the end of 2015 but I spend it all, which in retrospective was a huge mistake, but I learned from that and I began holding, I do not have as much bitcoin as I would like since the price of bitcoin skyrocketed in the last year but I'm doing everything I can to get as much bitcoin as I can.

and hodling is the most effective way of facing this biggest downfalls.i can point that only those weak hands is the affecting bodies here..and this is a learning stage for those new to in here..those who panicked sell will have a bitter feelings when the price stabilizes before end of this month.they will learn something out of this

Well, to be honest i feel little nervous, because when it falls, it falls really fast. And looking at the price right now hurts, specially like me who invested in mid Nov. But even in bad times, i didn't sell anything yet, i am holding tight, even though my 60% portfolio gone!
Nice one indeed. You will never regret that decision. For those who panic a lot, if they can go back to some of the old threads, they will know by now that FUD means nothing, and they are there just to shake off some weak hands from the market while some bigger boys in the market called whales benefit a lot from that. Holders will never lose in anyway as long as they believe in what they are holding and they do not lose hope. It is normal to be nervous right now, over time, you will get used to it.

Holders do also loose especially on the current situation of bitcoin right now but that looses can be recovered if ever bitcoin can comeback again to its peak. but what if bitcoin is a true bubble?  And one day the value of it will go down to zero or in short pops out just like a bubble. then i guess hodl itself cant still save you, so therfore selling right now or in a dip is still beneficial in order for us to cut our losses if anything bad could happen.

I am sure that this policy and strategy helps Bitcoin and other altcoins not to fall even deeper. The belief of hodlers supports ctypto very much.
This is the advantage of stay long in bitcoin community the mastering the art of hodling. We have been seeing a lot of up and down in the market so in this case we are truly aware. Hodling could be better and stands to be strong in bitcoin market.

I've bought bitcoin at 16,000$ plus, started to go up before it went down slowly plummeting its market value at 6,048.xx$ but i never felt fazed to even sell my bitcoin. I just realized that i am just a Full Member which makes me believe that those who know how to HODL are not Sr. Members and above only. Your rank and how long you been here does not have something to do with HODLing because HODLing comes from someone who has strong heart and strong belief of bitcoin no matter what their rank status may be, IMO. For those who have the courage to HODL despite all crisis, CONGRATULATIONS!
Yes, people who hold or having a long-term investment will not worry about this. But you need to have a big faith in Bitcoin. People who already know Bitcoin for years will not worry and keep investing. Long-term trader or long-term investor like usually will think this situation as an opportunity to collect Bitcoin as much as possible. Although you have to be strong to face the situation like this because there are a lot of issue and discussion going on. There are a lot of people that are trying to bring you down because they think that this is the end of Bitcoin. But we should keep our faith and keep collecting.

I never agreed with plain 100% HODL.   You have to be using this crypto economy for something or its no good.    Dont go buy a nice car and never use it, its actually bad to leave a car unused right.   Most people know this, to see a price gain we need growth and thats active users not people asleep on the job.    Just be you, use BTC whenever you can to pay a bill and its a positive imo.   Obviously, also buy it back so you arent using up all your BTC so in effect its still a hold but I think it has to be used or some other system will take over from BTC.   Technology is a constant process of redundancy and replacement, efficiency is served first and foremost to the best of my knowledge not one person or any set of people, not the old users, etc.

Hold is the best strategy but one of the reasons of why I think some people still do not believe in it is because it seems to be very passive, basically the best thing you can do is to do nothing and for some people this is counterintuitive, when something happens like a reduction in the price they want to do something, they want to sell, they want to move to other coin and yet we recommend that they do nothing and this can be difficult to accept for some people.

Many newbies or those who are still new to cryptocurrency investment or trading will be the ones that readily reacts when a coin suffer a massive corrections and later succumb to panic selling. They are not well-informed on what to do with their coins when the price are falling down. Hodling a coin for long a time is been used by many traders and holders who wants to profit  in long term investments. When you are planning to hodl your bitcoins, you need to remain calm during the sell-off panics and set your mind in the future.

I agree with you Rooster101. I am a crypto day trader and with the recent down of prices to almost all of the altcoins, I halted my usual trades in a day and just holding them.

I am quite surprised that in due time, I am now able to manage my emotions to not get panic in any big price movements and just stay focus on my goal. This is not who I am a few years ago Smiley

Do not look at the small picture right now mate, look at the bigger picture. Also, if it will make you feel better, go back and take a look at just last year and about the same incident that happened. At the end of it all, we always recover and even come back stronger because with every dip like this, stronger hands keep entering the market and the weaker ones keep getting thrown out. Never ever be the weak one and over time you will get used to the fact that, bitcoin and cryptocurrency is here to stay.

It is no secret that bitcoin gone through hell since its inception but the firm believers who HODL became wealthy in a tremendous way.

Hope those short line of words eases the pain to all the members here who emotionally suffer the most with the current price downfall of bitcoin and hopefully will also be a venue for the crypto pro to give encouragement to other members to continue hodling on.

Holding for the long term is probably going to be extremely profitable, even after the price has gone on a multi-month hike last year. I personally believe that bitcoin is still going to outperform most asset classes in the coming years, including fiat of course.

It doesn't mean that you can't sell and buy later. If you feel like that there's a bubble, obviously the smart thing to do will be to sell your coins and buy back at a more reasonable price point, so that you can increase your bitcoin holdings.

And looking now, bitcoin's price is extremely reasonable for buyers. Would be a good time to get your bags filled up for the long term.

Most of them bought bitcoin when the price was below 1K. The drop now is nothing to them because overall, they are still a few fold in profit.

The newbies who bought at the peak of the price are the ones suffering in this drop. Encouraging them to hold is good but not enough. If they learn to take advantage of the price even on a bear trend, it would be better.

My formal boss said to me that he got the most disappointing of his life in investing into cryptocurrency and I told him if you can hold, you will recover what He has loss because I strongly believe that bitcoin has that capacities to go up in future but people are selling now because of panic that has been created by cryptocurrencies enemies and they are pumping the fear on social media and others media house.

Well, to be honest i feel little nervous, because when it falls, it falls really fast. And looking at the price right now hurts, specially like me who invested in mid Nov. But even in bad times, i didn't sell anything yet, i am holding tight, even though my 60% portfolio gone!

I have the same thing mate. My capital drop around 70% from the beginning portofolio.
However i am a strong holder and i will be always strong.

Long term cryptocurrencies aren't going anywhere, they are a secure investment and people that sell out during the downturns always end up regretting it later. I've been debating getting into options for Bitcoin, but there is so little volume and the Bid-Ask spreads are ridiculous. Either way there will be 2 kinds of regret in a few months, those people who regret selling at the low and those of us that regret not buying even more each time it temporarily dips.

If Bitcoin and altcoins were not sold on the rise in December, there is no point in selling at the current prices. Honestly i don't know that everything when will be better, but i think it will rise again relying on the money's loop in financial markets.

As long as these fear porn doesn't pop up every where, you should be fine. I just feel these market are being manipulate to reach a certain price. I believe between 4000 and 6000 will be the limit for bitcoin. If it goes under then we have something to worry about.

You are not alone, I 60% done in portfolio. I had a chance to sell and make double profit, but I still don't have an understanding how the taxes work on cryptocurrency,so I didn't sell. I really need to put time on the side to study that.

How about this, just a suggestion, nothing fantasy.... SPEND IT AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO!
Put 10% of what you need every month for shopping in bitcoin and pay everywhere you can using bitcoin. Yes I did also pay some big fees in the past month and I am glad that high fees are over but spending 10% (not selling for fiat) will help rise the other 90% in your pocket.

I am a Sr. Member and I am hodling on to my Bitcoins. But here is the point: even before I became a Sr. Member I was already convinced of the potential of Bitcoin. In fact, when I entered bitcointalk.org I already have the belief that Bitcoin will soar to fantastic values that it may seem even impossible to think of. I mean, who would not be amazed with how Bitcoin's value appreciated so quickly? Those who are here that are not full-blooded believers of Bitcoin might flinch in the face of what's going on right now. I will not.

I'm more of a fan of the "sell high buy low" adage that is used by most people. Especially when you can buy the equivalent of almost 3 full bitcoins for what one was worth just a few weeks ago. There's a lot more value in being able to triple your investment potential than gimping yourself permanently and trying to play games with the market by believing that it will rebound immediately.

Yes the early members HODL and newbies just sell their bitcoins in panic.I too believe in the bitcoin technology and have tried my best to save and hold my bitcoins despite FUD and market conditions.I have managed to save 0.75 BTC and i would never get panic and sell my bitcoin even if the price crashes or it gets banned in most countries.I hope that bitcoin deserves more price than its previous ATH.And also not only to hold during the price fall, but also to buy it.

With the price down to date I do not think it's a bad problem we see from the beginning bitcoin is created and the current price is still pretty high, and the old bitcoin users and their experience are just plain with this price reduction issue, because they've repeatedly experience it, and they have full confidence in the rise in bitcoin prices again, and they usually hold in the long run, and also for the altcoin they hold

I have been holding since 2015! Yes my portfolio has taken a big hit in recent weeks but overall I'm still up and continue to hold because I believe that the market will recover soon. Even the Dow Jones has taken a big hit so its not just the crypto market feeling the pain right now. Strong hands will hold while the weak will sell at a loss. When people panic they sell at a loss so that is why we must remain clam and continue to hold.

Interesting. What price point are you planning to sell your coins? It should be more than $19,783.06 because you haven't sold it even at the all-time high price.

At first its not easy to control your emotion cause you will feel bad after making a decision to invest early, but since I believe much on cryptocurrency and I study further about the history of price movements, I can say that holding on is really a good option for now. Everyone is on panic and those who have weak emotion already incur real loss, lets all stand on this circumstances and keep on supporting blockchain technology.

I think you are doing the right thing. I could not really speak on behalf of the old members here but I think most are holding and just never mind the price drop because it will rise again sooner or later.

The real losers right now are the ones who sell their coins at a greater less value than what they paid for when they purchased it. The holders are not losers unless the coins they are holding will die and in zero value.
