The best time is to invest in altcoins before bullrun of cryptocurrency. Now is the best to invest in top coin or trading with top coin. Before bullrun top coin price will up until this, you can trade. Now holding altcoins is seems to be a foolish.
I was scratching my head thinking what the heck is ALTAR coin?

most of the altcoins are not worth your time and effort. reading their title thread alone will give you hint where the project is heading
based from my experience, very few altcoins are worth to hodl. tbh, I only trust BTC for long term hodling

There are lots of altcoins, apart from the top ones, that have been yielding a lot to investors. If you want me to mention them, I can do that and there are more in that line, mist especially with upcoming profits.
It is not really foolish to hold alt. The only foolish thing I see is buying a worthless alt at high price. Some alt are very profitable while majority can reck you and send you to village. The only alt I personally like holding is BNB and eth out side this two token the rest is a no no for me.

It was necessary to fix losses earlier. But I think that you need to once again analyze your portfolio and understand what altcoins should be kept on, and which are already doomed. And some of them are better translating into bitcoin.

It is not all altcoins that are not good to hold for long. I will say it depends on which type of altcoin you are holding and the value that the coin carries. We may not be able to conclude that all altcoins are bad because there are still good ones among them. One of the things I think is very important is to know the value and future prospects of altcoins we want to trade with before investing into them. Though this season is not really good for majority of altcoins, but one can still benefit from good ones if they are discovered. Holding of altcoin is not a bad idea if the coins are good value .

what do you mean by altar coins ? is that a new kind of crypto ? or that is only a typo and you mean to say altcoins ? you said you have an investment but you also mention the word trading , im confuse on your position tbh . if your a short term trading , you shouldnt go for altcoins because they are less volatile than btc . btc is the best for short term trader/trading . whenever you hold coins you loose because maybe you pick the wrong altcoins or you dont know how to timed your moves . in order to get rid of it you must practice on how to trade/invest and you need to study if what cryptos are good for investing and trading .
How long do you keep it, I think many people are not clearly distinguish between trade and hold, if hold then you should take into account the long term and should not check the value of the assets you hold often.
Holding altcoins is not foolish but it depends on the altcoins you hold. It's good to understand that taking risk of investment without proper due diligence is wrong, but taking calculated risk is cool. It's not about having many altcoins on your portfolio, what I normally do is that, I select very few altcoins with huge potentials and hold with peace of mind. Even if they dump, there is still hope of uptrend since the project development for such coin will be great.
Get rid of what exactly? Your cheap coin or your tendency to lose whenever you hold a coin? I guess you should simply stop investing in coins just for the monetary gains . This will make you to always research for quality rather than be greedy. I bet most investors would fail if you ask them what the projects they are interested in aim to achieve, how they will go about achieving the goals and how viable are the goals.

I think you choose wrong altcoin to invest, oneday i failed same as you, i learned to choose the altcoin carefully, some altcoin may provide a profit.
Only after a while we can understand whether it made sense to keep altcoins or not. For example, I doubt that some altcoins will bring me profit, but I take risks and keep most of the altcoins that I consider promising. Some altcoins keep buying until their price is very low.
Just make sure to hold altcoin for short term only and play long term with bitcoin and this is the best decision.

I wouldn't say no but, holding altcoins for a long-term to me looks great but this has to be a promise altcoins and not some random scam projects we have seen recently. Some few years back, I hold some altcoins utill last year before I sold out my portfolio with little profit, but at least I made some profits. The most profitable long-term investment I have seen in this industry is Bitcoin, for one to make reasonable profit on long-term investment bitcoin is the best. Pretty sure he meant altcoins, not altar coins. And if it's a solid project, I agree, might as well hold at these prices. It could be worth it to diversify, put some money into bitar coin too.

I'm also holding some altar coins myself, thees however were tokens I got from bounty campaigns. I think I fall inlove to it sadly they didn't fall for me. The profit would have been enormous that I can buy a lot of things, I thought its foolish to sell its during that time since I think the market will eventually shift to bull. I never though this will take more than years. I guess we're all left to hold these altarcoins.
I believe bitcoin will back to 19000 one day, so i hold bitcoin for that day, sometimes i buy bitcoins but most my invest in btc.
i think current marketing is really bad but its the chance of baging some strong alts.like ADA,BNB,LINK,DROP and etc.

Yes it's foolishness to an extent holding alter coins. Every time there's market shake out, alter coins suffer loss. Holding alter coins isn't foolishness in all round it turns out good sometimes.

Anyways, what can you except to hold those coins. We are still in the bearish market and it's really hard to make money with this kind of trend. Unless you are a experience trader and really knows how shorting really is. Although it is still hard to short altcoins to begin with.
Of course there are ways to get rid of it by dumping your altcoins. How long have been holding though? Most holders here takes years to hold their coin and wait for the price of it to go in a upward trend before dumping.

Even if you cannot do that by yourself, you might have a friend who knows how to make good choices, perhaps due to his experience or knowledge of crypto. Then gradually, you might learn how to get them done in the process.
Also, when you make mistakes, try to learn from them. They might be useful in future.

That's probably the way to go. Most alts are at or close to their all-time lows in relation to btc pairings. Unless we are talking about moving to a better opportunity and taking a minor loss, probably now isn't the best time to sell.
Exception being if we are talking about junk. If it's some 500-1000+ rated coin with no development and some ridiculous real world use, and hardly any volume, then it might be time to just take the loss and move to something else. But even there, ideally time it right so it's as minimal a loss as possible.

Holding altcoins is not foolish as you have said because am a fan of altcoins and toll now I have made a significant profit from my investment. Altcoins holding is not like our normal investment, ensure to invest on a long-term basis than on a short-term. I think the reason behind your failing in altcoins investment is because you do that on short-term basis.

Anyways, almost all altcoins continous to bleed for more than a year now. There are some that were pumped but it was short lived and goes back to bleeding again. I believe, if you are in a losing position, hodl is a better option as long as the altcoin have a solid team of developer, huge community and active trades. If not and it has idle volume then the best thing is just sell them and forget about your loses, move on and learn from your experience. Do your thorough research next time you buy another altcoin.

Kind of a weird thread ... alts now are in an obvious bear market, so trying to play them short term for profit can be tricky. There is no set mindset of 'hold alts short-term' only though. Look at 2017/18, if you use that mindset back then you'd lose out on like 10x profits. That was then, this is now, however ... same rules won't apply if all you do is look at things short-term.
Anyway, if the OP's goal is to get some quick profits during a week or two, crypto probably isn't for him, or at least alts aren't. But if he's at a big loss, I wouldn't suggest he sell either, as all that does is lock in the loss.

It caused by you are buying your coin at the wrong timing. Remember this when you are trying to buy an asset and make sure you are getting it when it was getting dumped so hard. But it looks like this time the market is more difficult to predict caused by the bitcoin impact can't be avoided and even there was huge news come and it doesn't even give a little pump to the altcoins.
