125k bitcoins is an 8th of a million bitcoins, which was around half a million bucks.


  Aye, thank you, previous posters don't know maths.  

  Though it is unlikely there were enoguh buy orders holding at the previous 'price' to have absorbed all that at $500k in value. The 125k coins likely went for about $300k~ give or take $20k depending on what orders were in place to fill at the time.

But it should be enough to cause a drastic fall in the exchanges given the small scale of the bitcoin economy

What are you talking about ? There were several selloffs at various hours each in the 5.000-15.000 BTC range. There's no way to know it was a single person as opposed to multiple panic sells.
