Thanks for both of the postings. I agree that my paper backup provide good protection against my data going corrupt.

However, what I wanted to know is something different. Mainly, does running Armory, Bitcoin Core, and the blockchain within my encrypted HOME folder mean these apps are running slower compared to if they were all running within a HOME folder that is not encrypted?  In other words, does HOME folder encryption slow things down a lot for apps running within an encrypted folder? Any opinion welcome.

You shouldn't worry about potential corruption because you should backup your private key propoerly
Right. Then at worst, corruption means you have to redownload the blockchain, you lose comments on your transactions, etc. Importantly, it means you do not lose any bitcoins.

Fellow Forum Members,
I just installed Ubuntu-14.04.2 LTS 64bit and during installation it asked me if I wanted my entire hard drive encrypted? I said no to that.  Then it asked me if I wanted my HOME folder encrypted?  I said yes to that. Was that a good or bad decision?

Since Bitcoin QT, Armory and the blockchain data reside inside the encrypted HOME folder am I asking for trouble by going with encryption or does it make no difference? My concern is that using encryption may eventually corrupt either my Bitcoin QT, Armory or my blockchain data. Is this a valid concern?

I would appreciate getting any opinions on whether running Armory and Bitcoin QT inside an encrypted HOME folder is a good idea or a bad idea.  Thanks in advance.
