As crazy as that sounds, I dont think its that much of a wild theory.

We seen the new tesla drive itself while a person can play chess, from switching lanes to stayin on the road basically.

So we arent too far off?

What about kids? Do you think they will be happy to be constantly on the move?
The place you live in decides the neighbors you will have, the friends that your kids will have, etc. Constantly moving around is not everybody's cup of tea.

Legit point, kids are a serious complication and would miss thier friends.  Education wise they'd probably be better off i should think the internet will provide some insane home schooling options in future.

There is one popular Swedish YouTuber girl Simone Giertz who is living on a house boat in Stockholm. She can literary unmoor the boat and go to sleep in another country's waters easily lol. I don't think that movable homes will drive the prices down of immovable properties. Honestly if I feel adventurous and have the money I would buy a motorhome or a house boat and travel around the world for a year or 2. It will probably be the greatest experience of my life  Cheesy

cool will check her out been watching many people on youtube, im thinking like you and doing it for a few years, probably will be greatest time of my life as i often dont get a chance to holiday.

Ok so got a wild theory maybe....

Apparently first self drive vehicles will be available for purchase in 2020, not very long away.

Another trend i see increasing is people who want to live on wheels (for freedom/cheapness/travel etc).  Living in vans, caravans, RVs, motorhomes.  Living in the same place for many years is just fucking boring lets face it.

Up to now, if you live on wheels then where to stay the night can sometimes be tricky, imagine how self drive will change this, it seems to have many advantages, safety and not having to pay to stay anywhere ever since you could always be moving.  Great for travelling over night if you like to see the world.

If my theory is right this wont be good for property prices either, i know where i live in UK the property price are pumped and the system trys very hard to keep people stuck into buying houses.

Thanks for listening.
You would need to have a job where you can work from anywhere or not leave the area.  If you are a dentist or doctor this may not be possible.

Life of a truck driver is somewhat like that.

Not possible for some professions maybe but many doctors still move around a fair bit unless you are talking about GP/local doctor (whatever its called in your country).  Any specialist doctor would probably benefit society by being able to float around a bigger range of areas.

It won't make driving enthusiasts happy. Only people who are much craze on technological innovation will adopt it. It also makes people lazy. Already lot innovation has made people lazy.

I agree.
I wanna drive the car myself and not get transported by the car.
I'm really not a fan of that kind of technology but that it everybody's own decision if he would use such a vehicle or not.

Thats why i think the race track industry will have a boom.  You guys might like to drive a car but when the insurance goes sky high you wont be able to afford it.  The fact is driving cars as humans is dangerous as fuck look at the stats.  Also if you drive on race tracks you can drive properly anyway.... faster and its more challenging.

I love watching youtube videos, there is so much variety and possibilities. From truck cabins, to full off road RV's to maximum space 4x4 setups or even mini trailer combos. Caravans certainly seem to be getting more popular in the UK but they seem like unwieldy beasts unless you've got a heavy top of the line range rover to go with it. They offer a great accommodation choice for a large portion of the population and allow much greater mobility if you've got decent facility pitching sites.

I have another idea.... instead of having these mobile homes traveling on public roads.. why not have them move slowly from one stand to the next in parks or recreational areas. Imagine rotating

prime camp spot between people, and them bidding to stay on the best spots.... If someone out bid you, your mobile home will move automatically to another spot. I cannot imagine sleeping while my

mobile home moves on it's own on a public road.  Roll Eyes

Haha but then i think if you are doing it that way, since you have to pay for the camp site anyway you might aswell just stay still lol.   At the moment the thought of moving on public roads when you are sleeping seems strange but no different from sleeping on a plane or boat because i should imagine there will be no vehicles on the road which aren't self drive at some point, the insurance will start to climb very high for people who want to drive themselves.  I should think the race track industry will have more customers.

The big difference with planes or trains, is that they're not autonomous. They have a professional driver or pilot who is in charge. Furthermore, evrything will depend on the place you live. In the places I live, self-driven vehicles will remain the exception. Even in Europe, I drive at least once a month on a road which is unmapped, and in Africa there are cities with thousands of people without any road signs.

I work on projects for my company in Africa and I can assure you, autonomous vehicles will not work there. In most areas people and cattle walk in the road. Who will be held accountable if a child

gets killed in a "hit and run" accident with nobody at the wheel? Lets say, it's not a child... but a cow or a sheep? This might work on freeways in first world countries, but not in these third world

countries. They should use this technology in these camping sites as a testing site and then go onto public roads. It is still a interesting concept and I think more people are dying in traffic accidents

at the moment, than having the occasional fatality, when a autonomous vehicle crash into someone.  Roll Eyes

So the idea is it drives all night every day? It would still be cheaper staying in a hotel every night. I like the idea of mobile home living in theory. The reality seems pretty gross unless you're in the US with a monster RV. The UK is too piddly and in love with their grotty homes.

I haven't quite worked out the idea yet but...... you could be moving at a very low speed over night, making it safe as regards crime and making it more acceptable with police who can hassle people who are stationary.

Also if you factor in some electric cars let you recharge for free at service stations, means you could travel for free anyway?    Either way if you travel at a very very low speed it could still be cheaper vs hotel or house or camping site most likely.

Hey maybe i got this all wrong and instead we will have house drones which run on solar and hover in the air?

I just got this feeling the property market is going to get butt fucked by some curve ball that nobody was expecting... trying to work out what that might be.

Although you seem to have an interesting theory, I sort of doubt it would have any significant damage into property prices since it will surely need a lot of self driven vehicles to make this happen which we know it won't happen that fast therefor the change in someone's property won't be that much affected and prices would surely keep on pumping (unfortunately). On the other hand, self driven cars won't come cheap so there's even a  lesser chance of someone acquiring them (unless their rich enough).

I spent about 2 months in a motorhome last year, and I clearly do not want an autonomous vehicle. Actually, that's the last thing I want, considering that being on a motorhome means freedom, living without a fixed schedule, nor a clear destination. I drive, I see something I like, I stop. Living in a motorhome isn't about going from one destination to another, it's about driving. Last Spring I chose the direction, which was Southern Italy, but nothing was planned, and without any more precision.
