Nice, I will try to attend one of these soon. I've been to the Austin Bitcoin meet up once, but a Houston Bitcoin meetup would save a hour of driving which would be nice. Smiley

I love Houston! I used to live there for two years prior to moving to Vegas the first time. Speaking of westerns, that's where I met James Drury (The Virginian). He used to hang out at Denny's in Katy with other gents of his ilk.

Sounds like a great idea.

The question would be is what to talk about?

The Folks in Austin have a good flow.

Once a month on a weekend day they line up local industry "Experts" this past weekedn they had BitPay, Bitcoin Foundation, an Angel Investor and a Developer demonstrate his zero knowledge code/work.

Then once a week he has an informal get together and who ever shows up talks about their topics of interest with each other - topics depend on who shows up.

The key is the Gent who is running lead is doing a great job of running lead and setting up the venues and presenters.

Not sure if anyone is willing or able to take on that kind of torch and run with it...

This can be a useful tool for coordinating meetups if you don't want to pay to register a full group:

I'm from Pearland, so anywhere other than north Houston works for me.  My schedule is erratic, but flexible as long as I have a couple weeks notice.

I'll likely be out of town next week, but should be back by Friday.

Hey sign me up as well!  I'm not a big poster here, plus I lurked without registering for months, but I would love to meetup with people in Houston.  Anybody work in the Galleria area?  I would be willing to go downtown as well.  There is also that new company Houston Bits which claims that they will be hosting some bitcoin meetups in the Montross area.

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Galleria area works for me. Downtown would be better. I can go wherever. We should pick a night next week and get this going while interest is being shown.

Did anyone ever start a meetup? If not, let's pick a night and get coffee or whatever. I work somewhat regular hours, so nights and weekends are best for me. Guardian of Forever, Gurthang and Fcx35x10, you three posted the most recently. Are you still interested. Or should I say, for the amusement of some of the people on the forum, "Are y'all still interested?" When is best?

It might be a good idea for myself to speak with the members of TX/RX and see about getting an informal BITCOIN NIGHT for non members of TX/RX that is NOT a Friday night.

Thoughts?

I think that is a great idea, I would show up for that.  I took some welding classes at TX/RX about a year ago but have never had a chance to get back due to time problems.  It is a great place though.

It is a great place. I show up on Friday nights when I can. I am not a member but it really is a great place. I emailed one of the members that is interested in Bitcoin about their thoughts. I will keep you in touch.

There was a discussion on the email list about four months ago regarding finding alternative payment methods for TX/RX dues.  Bitcoin might be a good suggestion for that.

Does TXRX have a donation address?

I might be willing to make the three and a half hour drive for a Houston Bitcoin meet-up if I don't have to be at work early the next day.

Do you guys really wear big belt buckles at all times?

No, I live on the beach and a Texas size belt buckle would be too hot.

Of course, when I ride my horse into town I put on my belt, with my Springfield 1911.

What is the agenda?

If you have not done so already, you should check out TX/RX Labs.  It would be a great way to blend bitcoin meetups with a group that could collaborate and make some projects.

I am in Galveston, but I would go to Houston for that.
