I agree, giving away bitcoins doesn't seem to be a very good strategy. I recently implemented a new coupon feature to easywallet.org, and at a party gave away lots of bitcoin coupons to my non-bitcoin-friends. It seems that only one or two actually redeemed those coupons. One coupon was 0.3 BTC, maybe the amount was too little.

I'm ok to give a bitcoin away, but not for free.

If people can get bitcoins for free, it won't help convincing them that it's money.

Bitcoin have a value, why should we give them away for free? If people want them they should pay for them. If you give away them for free then people will think they are worthless.

Everybody should post to his social network of choice that he will give away 1 Bitcoin divided among any of his friends who ask for it - to encourage people to figure out what Bitcoin is.

I suggest we do this the next Friday, August 10. Spread the word please.
