I just voted for no convention cos e no nid, we fit open a WhatsApp/Telegram account to connect if need be. But it must be strictly moderated (people dey difficult).

Naija get wahala 4 luv, 2gedaness, na selfishness, personal gain dem sabi most. If u don live 4 places lyk Abj where mixed tribes plenty most or travel to some countries, u go sabi wetin I dey tell u. Dis tin dey our DNA but e no late to drop am 4 dis forum, our coordination, help fit help us reach far even as we no get strong merit sources 4 here. No meaningful topic suppose dey get at least 3 merits, but reverse be d case, e dey tire person tru tru. People wey don reach Legendary rank no suppose 4get their fellow countrymen, especially if their post dey make sense, mo drop me and my people mentality.

I dey notice how some people don form their community within the community here, if person digs deeper, e fit be say dem dey one region like dat, but dis no make sense.

You're right my bro, this isn't the right way I should have gone about this, and i would've done that through pms but I felt I should  bring it to an open space to seek the opinions of others since the convention will only be successful  with the people but it seems everyone is trying to maintain some sort of anonymity  which isn't necessarily  to me.

Make we forget all this story about werin oyibo dey talk and accept say we all know say we need this level and all this drama no dey necessary and we suppose to dey push and even be the first to hold this kind thing for the forum.

This is good and a welcoming idea you've table down here, i like the fact that you've summoned courage to bring this for public hearing for every member of the naija locsl board, i must comend you well done for this move, i will like to share my own personal interest and opinion towards this as well, we need to realize that we have to take into notice that not every Nigerians are present on the naija local board and those that have identified themselves may want to maintain privacy at the course.

Organizing a bitcointalk naija local board convention is not what is bad, as long as you are not going to make it public or announced out to the general public, only the bitcointalk naija community will be invited and to also attend, my little suggestion is to consider the time factor and convenience for each member to be able to meet up for this, especially those that are not within the same confined zone of PH were most members are sited, which means for those that will be participating live, there may be chance of connecting others to join by virtual meeting using zoom or video chat as the case maybe, also to me this may not be the appropriate channel to extensively discuss on such but you can pm some prominent and active members your telegram and from there you pick up.

Does this mean anyone cab easily apply to be a merit source?
Theymos has been one of the most busy persons I've seen so far and its already a very long time charlse applied to be a merit source despite being a legendary  member and what's the fate of being a merit source for lower ranked accounts ?

Really Charles-Tim you have an application for the merit source thread,  I haven't seen that and since I hardly read most of the posts that are not bitcoin related or other coins that may be of interest to me,  really the only merit source that we have here in the local board is CryptopreneurBrainboss who have been absolutely ok in the dispensation of merit and if I have to vote for an increase or write a PM the admin it will be for an increase in the merits allocation to CryptopreneurBrainboss since his pattern of merit distribution here in the local board have been highly professional and even though he has low limits of monthly merit allocations,  CryptopreneurBrainboss has made each and everyone feels the impact of him being a merit source here in the local board despite that he is not Nigeria local board merit source.

But having a new merit source in the local board is a nice idea and everyone can apply for that,  if you feel that you will be selfless enough to distribute the merits allocated to you without any issues,  we don't need those who won't ordinarily not support members here in the forum to become merits source.

Didn't actually follow the thread entirely but i will be looking forward  to seeing you as a merit source  and if there is in anyway a voting process to make this possible, then count me a major voter.

First, it is better to not send merit than to send merit to spam and low quality posts.

Second, you can not receive many merits and have many smerits within a day or 2 and you will distribute it all.

Third, you did not follow the thread completely. CryptopreneurBrainboss and I discussed about it. I applied for merit source, many people merited it and I got many merits. The user commented that I have 33 smerits after I have received many merits on the thread.

Fourth, I am not a merit source. I can decide to send the merit to a single person, anybody or to hoard it. To be a merit source is different.

If you see something,  say something na slogan wey already dey on ground but that one no mean say we go first crucify our own before the masses, as there is a saying by my people that "no matter how teeth decay for mouth, tongue  go always dey lick am" and make this one also make us stand for each other when trouble fall out.

I no fit quote everybody wey don yarn so far but I been dey even expect worst responses than this and truly we don grow for the board as this dey evident for the mature responses I don recieve so far,  me personally been don reason alot of the hindrance wey fit come up just incase we finally agree say make we run the convention wey include,
1. High cost of transportation  as a result of the hike in fuel prices

2. Location for event but I been don reason this one major and I also see say most persons dey point to the fact say some of our users dey outside countries and that's no doubt but the truth be say,  no be everybody dey attend meeting na, even for family meetings, you no go expect your family member wey dey outside to come down simply because una wan do family meeting except he just wan come back and that is to say that as a first time convention, everybody no fit turn up.

3. Funds, cost of organization  go also be a major challenge and not many of the users go easily donate especially  for the local board considering  the state  of the economy  and the load fit end up for my neck but I been dey look beyond that.

These na the challenges me I been dey consider and I don also see wetin everybody talk

I hope he accepts you and I've  seen your thread about wanting to be a merit source was is a commendable one but I hop that when he finally approves of it, you be more generous with the merit and focus more on the local board with the smerits as I saw a post on your thread with statistics  of your smerit  which shows that you were having 33 smerits in stock which wasn't nice as merits would be one of the best way to appreciate and boost the morale of upcoming  members.

I think your discussion is about Nigeria local board, not about the use and acceptability of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the country.

I hope theymos will make one of us to be a merit source soon so that merit can circulation more. I applied for a merit source not quite long.

If we see something wrong, we should not be mute, that does not mean their is no love. There is nothing bad to disagree to agree.

You have really made some good points here, mate, and I agree with most of them. Some of your observations are entirely true, especially when it comes to the merit source aspect. This post made me realize that we even have one merit source here on our local board, as I went to check on . Re: [LOG] The ranked-up members are: Congratulations! and saw only one of our members listed as a merit source. That being said, we ordinarily do not wait for the forum admin to approve any of our trusted members as merit sources and add them to our list; we can as well help our fellow members in whatever little way that we can. If you come across a quality post made by one of your locals, either here on the local board or outside, we can spare a few merits for them as it will push them a little further on their journey.
 
Regarding the convention, like CryptoHeadlineNews has outlined, we don't need to gather up all at once to discuss some press matters; technology has helped reduce the stress of F2F meetings as everything can now be done online and everyone's opinion will be taken note of.
 
While we wait for those to happen here on the forum, we can always address one another when we see where the other is going the wrong way. We can either DM them privately and call them to order, or a thread for addressing some certain issues could possibly be created here on our local, with the discussion purely in our local language, "Nigeria Pigin," because not everything that we are discussing here is meant for outsiders to understand freely without stressing their brains.

Truly, everything wey you outline above na indeed really all the challenges we dey face for this our local board due to say we lack upper hands for the forum. Secondly, this idea of organizing a convention na another idea I think say many no go buy, due to the high cost of transportation, foods and e.t.c, on matter that can literally be discussed either on "Zoom" or a telegram or WhatsApp group for those interested, or here on the forum. But how about if people living in the same state of the 36 States of the Federation fit just come together and discuss way forward, I think that will be far more better than expecting everybody in the 36 States to convey one place.

E get many people wey just wan dey private with their life here, so surely dem no go turn up for dis meeting. Also, we get forum members scattered all over de country, and from obodo oyinbo too, with de current economic realities wey dey on ground many people no show. You try for the idea wey you want raise, I commend the unity wey dey under wetin you dey talk. But e mean say you want make everybody commot the mask wey dem wear. If masquerade con begin dance without covering face, that one no be masquerade again na and no be the spirit of decentralised system wey all man suppose get their privacy to demselve. I believe say some people dey wey still sabi demselves wella outside here and dey run things together but some still dey far from each other and na so the forum too be including forum politics.

Naija get 36 states including the FCT, i dey sure say we get users scattered all over these states, a convention no go fit work because the location no go favor many people and dem no go fit dey present. A physical convention no go dey possible because of privacy concerns, no be everybody go like to reveal their identity, and i no even think say a convention dey necessary, anything wey person wan learn, e go fit learn am online, the person go fit also ask for local board and people go reply am.

Our local board dey progress and i never notice the issues wey you dey talk about, in terms of quality posts we are doing very well, and we do not have to see each other before we can learn from one another, you fit pm person sev if you go like make him teach you something, that's if you feel say the person get the knowledge wey you dey find.

Di idea of a convention de very good, as e go bring us togeda to know ourselves one on one, to discuss issues wey go make our local board to de beta and be di envy of bitcointalk in general. Without exaggerating I believe say dis our forum na im de for di forefront of anything bitcoin and crypto matter for inside Nigeria, diafo, anything wey go make am beta and give am a stronger voice de welcomed by me.

Aldo I no know how di convention go take de possible because of some reasons
1: Bitcointalk forum de anonymous, meaning say dem create am to hide the identity of the members. So dis convention no go go against di ideology of di forum?
2: Location, dis na di real koko, because I believe say we live for different locations for Nigeria, some of us sef for dis forum live for outside Nigeria. So wetin be di possibility say most of us go fit to converge for one venue at di same time to hold di convention? Considering cost of transportation and lodging accommodation.

I for advice say if we want to hold convention, we fit to open something like a telegram platform, zoom or even WhatsApp.

And I also observed that you make a lot of mistake in the spacing of your words so it is difficult for people to read and understand therefore, you have to reedit your work. And that's for dat. Then your recommendation of physical convention or meeting will not be possible as this time of high tfaire in the nation.

And the love you tok about in the local board, I don't know of others but as for me I see love in the forum but the problem is the newbies that people are introducing to the forum. They are just posting anything that comes to their head making the board a shit and spam boards. If the people who are bringing newbies give them good orientation and of they do well here then everything go dey alright. I now y u left the local board for a while. And na this di same issue. And dat di same thing is still on ground. Oya look at the first page of this board u go confirm am. Di matter dey make everyone vex. So your convention go hard for us for now.

First let me commend your efforts to pen down your personal assumptions and speculation pf what the local board is and what the impact of the Nigerians community in the larger Bitcoin talk forum,  but more than that is the fact that the Nigerian community may have suffered a lot of setbacks just as you already mentioned the challenges facing Nigerians at both the local board or the main forum boards,  more also is another fact that Nigerians make up a large amount to the active members of this forum.

But as we all know that some weren't built in a day,  so is the Nigeria local board community here on bitcointalk,  and this is something highly commendable as we keep fighting for the admin of the forum to create more subboards and moderators with a couple of merits sources to keep the merit cycle in this Local board rolling.

Back to the topic of discussion which borders convention which to me is a bad idea and against the ethics of what Bitcoin stands for which is privacy,  so just as you rightly said,  not many will be cool with such arraignment

Op sincerely i really commend and appreciate your ideas of initiating a convention, it is really needed, I know the process might not be easy, but I know if your ideas are put into consideration then there will be a positive result.

I believe a convention will help channel members on the right track, build our knowledge on Bitcoin and people would also have an opportunity to see members face to face and create relationship with members too.

A convention will also give room for members to speak their minds, ask questions and also share ideas on how to improve in the forum(Bitcointalk)..
So to me I welcome the idea of organising a convention as it will help us grow in knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin..

I commend your thoughtfulness op and personally, I must say your observations are quite correct especially in terms of helping to coach the younger ones to grow in the forum but another thing to consider is, if this convention is held, how many people will be in attendance or how many will practice what they've learned?

In this forum boards, there are pinned rules and regulations on what to post and countless "pointers" have been giving by not only higher ranking users but those who have known their way around here to help these newbies find their way here. If there's still peeps that flop, is it the convention that would change it?

Another matter you brought up is the issue of lack of love and co operation and I find it quite disturbing because I've observed that some of our guys here just like to call out our members in the other boards. It's not like I'm saying they should support them even when they are doing wrong, but at least you shouldn't completely throw them under the bus...

Over some time now, I haven't been active on the local board for some obvious and personal reasons and I also think it will be wise to seek the opinions of others as to what they think about a convention.

~ Well I know and also understand that, this very discussion and thread might not go well with everyone for some several  reasons especially  with regards to the fact that bitcoin and cryptocurrency isn't generally accepted in the country and as such, not everyone will be willing  to identify with it openly.

~ I also want to firstly say that, I respect  everyone's opinion but how about we see things in an entirely different  perspective, and judging from my personal observations, Nigerian also falls in the list of active users on the forum and contributing positively  to the bitcointalk community.

~ from my personal observations,  it also shows that we also have higher rates of users battling with merits and quality post as well as ranking  up.

~ From my personal observations, I've also realized  that we have alot of highly ranked members who haven't identified  with the local community for some reasons best known to them.

~ From my personal observations, it seems the board also suffers lack of merit give aways as it seems we have just one merit source with very low smerit allocation.

~ It is obvious  that we all found our ways to the forum through several means and there are people here who came into the forum as a total stranger without any mentorship whatsoever and battling with growth and how to get familiar with the forum.

~ These and many more to come later are few observations I've made that has prompted my call for a convention to discuss some of the challenges and the way forward as well as get to meet ourselves in real as there are alot to achieve together beyond the forum.

~ Less i forget, there is lack of love and cooperation in the national (local) board and this is the first killer of growth.
